Create A Bun For Ballet With Thin Hair

Wash the hair the day before, instead of the day of, as clean hair is finer and more difficult to work with.

Tight buns are often required in classical ballet because they keep the hair out of the face and look clean on stage. Thin hair can be difficult to work with since it is so fine and often comes loose. With enough hair products and bobby pins, however, you can create a secure bun that will last throughout an entire dance recital.

Instructions

1. Brush through the hair to remove any knots and tangles.

2. Wet your hands and dampen the hair.

3. Squeeze a nickel-sized amount of hair gel into your hands and work it through the top of the hair all the way to the ends.

4. Brush the hair straight back and onto the top of the head.

5. Tie the ponytail up with a thick elastic hair band. The band should match the color of the hair. Wrap it as many times as possible to get it tight.

6. Apply hair gel to the ponytail and twist it into a tight coil.

7. Wrap the coil around the ponytail and secure it to the head as you go. To do this, insert a bobby pin through the outside of the bun and into the base. Use as many bobby pins as necessary to keep the bun in place.

8. Wrap the bun in a fine hair net and secure it with bobby pins. This will prevent the bun from uncoiling.

9. Spray the bun with hairspray.
