Pair your dance shirt with a miniskirt for extra flair.
Dance shirts can be revealing and stylish at the same time, and you don't have to spend a fortune to get them. Choose a T-shirt from your closet that you won't miss, and turn it into something you'll love to show off on the dance floor. You'll just need scissors and some imagination to turn an old T-shirt into a funky blend of 80s punk and modern sleek.
Instructions
1. Select a shirt with interesting color, patterns or fabric. It can have long or short sleeves, and should not be too tight or too short. Do not use shirt with buttons or zippers.
2. Cut off both the sleeves of the shirt to create a tank top; or, for an eye-catching look, cut off only one sleeve. Cut the shirt up the seams on both sides, from the bottom hem up to the armpit. This will open the sides or one side of the shirt completely.
3. Open the shirt and flatten it on a table; it is now only attached at the neck. Cut 2-inch horizontal strips into the left and right sides of the front of the shirt, and repeat on the back of the shirt. This will give it a frayed appearance. If the shirt fits you well, make these strips 2 inches long or less. If the shirt is overly large, cut the strips longer as needed.
4. Tie the shirt back together by tying the strips into knots with those directly across from them, beginning at the bottom of the shirt. This will give the sides of your shirt a braided, but still revealing, look. When you finish, consider cutting the sleeve, if you left one, and making the same ties.
5. Cut a scoop neck in the shirt to reveal more of your neckline and remove any hem. This will make the neckline smoother and sleeker. Begin by cutting only a small semi-circle shape starting from one side of the neck and moving to the other: you can cut more if necessary after you try it on.
