Do Wedding Hairstyles

It is your big day, and of course you want your hair to be perfect. You may choose to do you own wedding hair to save money, or simply because you want to have control over your wedding styling and are comfortable working with hair. It's important to learn do wedding hairstyles before the day of your wedding, and to practice often so your wedding hairstyle is easy to achieve.

Instructions

1. Research wedding hairstyles. Begin your research four to six months before your wedding. Use wedding-related websites or magazines for ideas. Look for models whose face shape is similar to yours to find styles most likely to compliment your face shape. Print or cut out the pictures for reference.

2. Shop for hair accessories that will work with your look and your headpiece. If you decide to wear your hair down in loose curls, consider using pretty pins or headbands. An updo will look pretty with a tiara, broach or silk flower. If you want to use real flowers in your hair, speak to your florist about giving you a few extra flower buds early on the day of your wedding.

3. Practice your wedding hairstyle at least once before your wedding day. Take notes on things that work and don't work, such as where you need an extra bobby pin or how well the curl held.

4. Wash your hair the night before your wedding so that some of the natural oils can build up, which will help the curl hold better. If your hair doesn't hold curl well, wash your hair in the afternoon the day before your wedding to give it a little more time to get "dirty" and lose some of its softness. Your hair should be completely dry when you begin your wedding hairstyle.

5. Curl your hair in sections, starting at the base of the neck. Pin all of your hair up except a section of hair at the bottom of your head. Spray your hair with medium-hold hair spray before curling the next layer. For a curl that is more natural looking, forego the curling iron and pin your hair into loops, called pin curls, when it is wet. Allow the hair to dry completely, then unpin each curl and gently lower the curl, spraying it with medium-hold hair spray before moving to the next.

6. Tease the hair at the roots, especially if you are doing an updo or half updo. Hold small sections of the hair at the crown straight up and tease about 3 inches up the hair shaft. Spray the hair with medium-hold hair spray. When you are pulling the hair back, smooth it back gently with your fingers or a paddle brush.

7. Pull the hair into the style you want, either in a French twist, half updo, glamorous ponytail, or any other style you choose. Finish the hair by spraying it with an extra-hold hair spray.
