Long Shag Hair Styles

Shaggy hair gets a reputation for being unkempt and undesirable, but there are ways to give it style. Shag styles are funky, innovative and guaranteed to make you stand out in a crowd. Professional stylists have the knowledge to turn shag cuts into works of art. With a few tips you can turn your shag into a masterpiece. Grab your best styling tools and get to work.

Hippie Halo Braided Shag

This style is simple, fun and only for the carefree. Take clean, wet hair and allow it to air dry. Once the hair is completely dry, take a texturizing spray and run it along the roots and hair shaft with your hands. Part hair down the middle, and on one side of the part go back two inches from the forehead, take a one-inch wide section of hair and begin to braid. Do the same on the other side of the part. You want the braids to be fairly small in size. Pin the braids behind the ear with a bobby pin or a decorative clip.

Glamorous Wavy Shag

This is a flirty, relaxed look that is ideal for a date or even for work. Take clean, wet hair and run a volumizing mousse through the roots. Spray a heat protectant in the hair and comb it though. Blow dry the hair on medium-to-high heat with a diffuser. Scrunch the hair as you dry to encourage a natural wave. Once hair is completely dry, run a shine serum through the hair from root to tip with your hands. Place decorative clips wherever you desire to add personal style, and finish with hairspray to hold the natural wave.

Simple Pulled-Back Shag

Not every girl is glamorous and wants a complicated look. This look is for the simple girl next door with shag. Take clean, dry hair and run a shine serum through the ends with your hands. Comb the product through the hair to evenly distribute it. Part the hair to the side and use bobby pins to pin back the front sections of hair on each side of the part. The sections will be symmetrical when you look in the mirror.
