Hairstyles For Formal Occasions For Short Hair

Dress up your short hair for special occasions.

Some people prefer the look of short hair. If your hairstyle is on the shorter side, you are more limited in your styling options than if you had medium-length or long hair. This may become obvious when you are trying to style your hair for formal occasions, such as weddings or proms. The key is is dress up short hair with accessories, such as decorative clips and headbands.

Pixie

A pixie hairstyle is very short and shows off your face. As there is not much hair to work with, you won't be able to style it in updos or other traditionally formal hairstyles. However, you can still dress it up, especially if you have long, side-swept bangs. To create the formal look, style your hair as you usually would. Add mousse at the roots for volume, if your hair is long enough on top to do so. Once your hair is dry, add a simple tiara to the top of your head. Sweep the bangs to the side and mist with hairspray to hold them in place.

Curls

If you have curly short hair, use a curling iron and bobby pins that match your natural color. To enhance the curl, use mousse on your hair when it's wet and scrunch it with your hands. Once it's dry use a small-barrel curling iron to make it even more curly. After you curl each strand, wrap the curl around your finger and then bobby pin it in place so that it's a pin curl. Do this all over your head and add in decorative barrettes or a silk flower.

Updo

Create a updo or pseudo-updo with your short hair. To do this, you will pin up the back of your hair to your scalp. Curl the front and top of your hair using a curling iron or hot rollers. Once the hair has cooled off, sweep your hair back and pin it with bobby pins and a few decorative clips. Make sure that there are no little pieces sticking out. Spray with hairspray and a shine spray.
