Style A Synthetic Wig

Style a Synthetic Wig

Synthetic wigs are very easy to care for and simple to style. You can have the same look every day with minimal time spent styling your hair. Synthetic wigs allow you to have fun and experiment with many different styles. They often appear lighter and even more natural looking than human hair wigs. Here's style a synthetic wig.

Instructions

1. Brush the wig with a wig brush before washing or putting it on. Regular hair brushes can damage the fibers.

2. Wash the wig every 15 to 20 uses with a special shampoo made for synthetic wigs. Never use regular shampoo.

3. Squeeze the water from the wig gently. Never twist it or wring it out.

4. Allow your synthetic wig to dry on a wire form before styling. Don't comb it or brush it while wet to avoid breakage.

5. Shake the wig out to give it a bit more volume for a more natural look.

6. Use a comb or pick to tousle the strands of hair around your face and the crown of your head to make the hair fall in an attractive manner.

7. Separate the curls in a curly style wig with your fingers gently. Never use a brush or comb.

8. Spritz the wig with water from a spray bottle regularly throughout the day to maintain a fresh look and avoid static electricity.

9. Get a whole new look by taking your wig to a professional wig stylist. They can transform the wig to a new style without damaging it.

1900 Vintage Wedding Hairstyles

An example of a 1900s bride wearing a Gibson girl hairstyle.

A 1900s bride could pick a sophisticated Victorian or trendy Gibson girl hairstyle and still look chic. Short hair could be styled into a straight, simple bob, or it could be pin curled or finger waved into neat, uniform rows. Long wedding hair could be swept in an up-style and tucked into a chignon or bun. Stray wisps could be twirled into hanging tendrils to frame the face. Backcombing and puffing free-flowing hair gave a bride height, and the rest was rolled into elegant, cascading sausage curls.

Deconstructing 1900s Bridal Hairstyles

A 1900s "milkmaid" coiled faux braid duplicated for a modern bride's hair.

Retro hairdos are much easier to create today because of all the modern hair tools and lotions available. In the 1900s, bridal tresses had lots of volume but were looser and fuller than Victorian hairstyles. Brides added pouf to hair by putting hair pads underneath a hair layer at its roots; then they teased and combed real hair over faux hair pads. Long hair was often swept up and pinned to the crown, while stray wisps fell freely around the shoulders and back.

Turn of the Century Bridal Hair Pads and Aids

A woman wearing a chignon held together with decorative barrettes and prong-shaped bobby pins.

Young 1900s brides had many choices of fake pads to wrap under their hair. The early hair-care market carried frisettes, switches and plaits, along with extra curls and small wave pieces; these were pinned to the head to hide gaps. Other hair rolls included knots, chignons and buns; these were pinned under real hair to form a clump. The roll was attached with bobby pins and barrettes -- along with hair nets -- to hold it in place. Waxes, pomades and lotions were used to manage hair, and hair was rolled with strips of rag to make sausage curls.

Retro-Inspired Bridal Updos with a Modern Twist

Example of an elegant bridal updo with stray tendrils at the nape.

Classic ballet bun updo: Pull back hair to make a simple yet chic bun at the base of the neck. Accessorize with flowers, headpiece and veil.

Classic French twist updo: Sweep hair back and secure the twist with pins to the back of the head. Decorative pins, fabric flowers or a tiara will dress up a twist.

Updo with curls: Sweep hair back and secure it at the crown. Curl and pin excess hair.

Elegant side updo: Smooth hair to one side at the nape of the neck and secure with pins into a beautiful roll or bun. Curls and wisps should frame the face and hang down the back of the neck. Tuck in several wee flowers or place one large flower at the top of the roll.

Loose, messy updo: Sweep hair onto the top of head so it looks loose and messy like a shepherdess.

Retro Bridal Hair Ornaments and Accessories

Example of a modern bridal hair ornament similar to a 1900s adornment.

In the 1900s, brides loved to use whimsical hair ornaments, ribbons and barrettes to decorate their hair. Besides faux hair rolls, they used some unique hair ornaments to hold their hair in place. Sometimes they would interweave rows of flowers down a French braid, or they would pin up their hair with tiny, circular, jeweled barrettes. They secured ringlet curls with jeweled pins and satin or fabric bows. They seldom colored their hair because coloring was unsafe, but they used aigrettes and feathers as hair ornaments.

Hairstyles For Formal Occasions For Short Hair

Dress up your short hair for special occasions.

Some people prefer the look of short hair. If your hairstyle is on the shorter side, you are more limited in your styling options than if you had medium-length or long hair. This may become obvious when you are trying to style your hair for formal occasions, such as weddings or proms. The key is is dress up short hair with accessories, such as decorative clips and headbands.

Pixie

A pixie hairstyle is very short and shows off your face. As there is not much hair to work with, you won't be able to style it in updos or other traditionally formal hairstyles. However, you can still dress it up, especially if you have long, side-swept bangs. To create the formal look, style your hair as you usually would. Add mousse at the roots for volume, if your hair is long enough on top to do so. Once your hair is dry, add a simple tiara to the top of your head. Sweep the bangs to the side and mist with hairspray to hold them in place.

Curls

If you have curly short hair, use a curling iron and bobby pins that match your natural color. To enhance the curl, use mousse on your hair when it's wet and scrunch it with your hands. Once it's dry use a small-barrel curling iron to make it even more curly. After you curl each strand, wrap the curl around your finger and then bobby pin it in place so that it's a pin curl. Do this all over your head and add in decorative barrettes or a silk flower.

Updo

Create a updo or pseudo-updo with your short hair. To do this, you will pin up the back of your hair to your scalp. Curl the front and top of your hair using a curling iron or hot rollers. Once the hair has cooled off, sweep your hair back and pin it with bobby pins and a few decorative clips. Make sure that there are no little pieces sticking out. Spray with hairspray and a shine spray.

Children'S Formal Hairstyles

If you're planning on attending a wedding or your child is the guest of honor at a formal occasion (such as a talent show, first communion or baptism), you may be looking for ideas on ways to do her hair to reflect the formality of the occasion. Formal hairdos can be a bit difficult with children as they can often get restless during the process. If you keep it easy and fun, however, the hairstyles can be done quite easily.

Half-up and Half-down

Part her hair to one side (or simply gather it all back) and secure the front sides at the back of head with a clip or rubber band. You can opt to braid the hanging piece, twist it into a bun or simply leave it the way it is. With a curling iron, curl several sections of her hair (or you can opt to do this the night before by having her sleep on foam curlers). Spritz some hairspray on her hair to make sure the curls hold. If she is in a wedding, you may want to add a flower crown to her hair. You can also spruce up her hair with a headband or other headpieces.

Up with Curls

For an easy hair style to execute, place your child's hair into a high ponytail, securing it with a rubber band. Take a small section and braid it, then twist it around the rubber band, securing it with a bobby pin. Curl the hair in the ponytail with a curling iron. If she is extra wiggly, try and curl the hair with foam curlers the night before and have her sleep on them. When you take them out in the morning, her hair will be curly and ready to go.

French Braid

If your child loves braids, she may want you to put her hair in one or two French braids. Her braids can be embellished with small pieces of Baby's Breath (suitable for a wedding) or hair jewels (available at almost any beauty supply store). French braiding can be a bit challenging, however, so you may want to practice on an adult or a doll before trying it on your daughter. Use the tutorial found in Resources 1 for information on execute the French braid.

Perm With Velcro Rollers

Perm With Velcro Rollers

Velcro rollers, plastic rollers equipped with teeth to grip the hair, are ideal for people who find it difficult to roll hair on traditional perm rods. The rollers do not require end papers, and they stay perfectly in place regardless of your wrapping skills or lack thereof. The design of the roller is responsible for its ease of use. The outside of the roller features small, hooked teeth that attach to the hair like Velcro.

Instructions

1. Comb clean, dry hair to remove any tangles. Comb the hair straight back from the face. Carve out a small ½-inch thick section in the bang area. Make sure that the section is centered on the forehead and no wider than the Velcro rods you are using. Comb the parting straight out from the head, place the rod underneath the ends of the hair and roll the rod down toward the scalp until it is snug against the scalp.

2. Create a second section directly behind the first, and repeat. Continue rolling hair until the entire center strip of the head has been rolled. Move to one side of the head. Create a vertical part directly above the ear. Roll the back section first using ½-inch thick partings. Roll the front section in a similar manner. Repeat steps on the other side of the head.

3. Place a towel around the shoulders, and fasten the haircutting cape around the neck. Line the outside of the hairline with cotton strips. Shake the bottle of perm solution to mix, and puncture the tip with a straight pin or thumb tack.

4. Saturate the hair with perm solution by applying the solution to the top and underside of each roller. Remove the cotton, and replace it with a clean strip of cotton. Place the plastic cap on the head, and set the timer for 20 minutes.

5. Remove the cap and cotton strip. Rinse the hair with warm water for five minutes. Blot excess water by placing folded up paper towels directly against the rollers. Do not rock or roll the rollers. Simply place the paper towels against the rollers to draw out excess moisture.

6. Shake the neutralizing solution, and puncture the tip with the pin. Line the hairline with fresh cotton. Saturate the hair with the neutralizing solution by applying the solution to the top and underside of each roller. Set the timer for five minutes.

7. Remove the cotton, and gently unroll the Velcro rollers. Rinse the hair thoroughly with warm water. Style as desired.

Properly A Wear Graduation Gown

When graduation day is approaching, graduates have a lot to deal with. Whether it's a high school or college graduation, most graduates are finishing up any assignments or applications and focusing on what happens after graduation. When it comes to wearing a graduation gown, however, most graduates don't give it the attention it deserves. Your gown will be captured in the many photos of you and you will want to look your best on your proud day.

Instructions

1. Check to see that your graduation gown is the proper size when you receive it. Make sure that you have your gown, cap, tassel and any hoods, honor chords or honor stoles that accompany your gown. These accessories will depend on what type of graduation you are taking part in. College graduation gowns will come with a hood that designates the type of degree you are receiving and the honor chords or honor stoles indicate your level of grade point average or honor societies you may belong to.

2. Plan the outfit you will wear underneath your graduation gown. It is important to realize that your feet will be showing from beneath your gown. Try on your outfit with your gown on top to get a feel for what it will look like. You will want to change your outfit if part of your dress sticks out from underneath the gown or if your shoes don't look appropriate. White gowns can be translucent, so you will want to avoid wearing bright colors underneath most white gowns.

3. Iron your graduation gown before the big day. Gowns become wrinkled during shipping and may need some extra care before worn. Many graduation gowns are made from polyester and can be ironed on a very low setting. Gowns made from acetate cannot be ironed and should be dry cleaned instead.

4. Put the gown on the same way you would a jacket or zip-up shirt. Zip the gown all the way up making sure it is securely fastened at the top. Attach the academic hood to the gown with the provided loop and safety pin. The academic hood is fastened on the inside front of the gown and drapes over the head, hanging down the back of the gown.

5. Drape any honor chords and honor stoles around your neck. These chords and stoles should hang evenly in the front. You may want to place the flat stole first and a chord on top so that they lay nicely without tangling. Add your cap and tassel accordingly. Bobby pins can be used to fasten the cap to your hair. Remember to stand tall and carry yourself with confidence.

Get African Hair Fluffy With Magnetic Rollers

Magnetic rollers give African hair additional bounce and body.

African hair, which is often thick, coarse and tightly curled, often appears more voluminous and uniform with the help of a roller set. Magnetic rollers, which are used with wet hair since the ventilation holes draw the hair to the rollers in a magnetic fashion, can add body and additional curl to the hair, sometimes without having to use much product. To give your hair a fluffy and full look, a magnetic roller set done at home can give you the style you want.

Instructions

1. Towel-dry shampooed hair. Apply a small amount of setting lotion to the entire head. African hair tends to dry quickly, and the setting lotion will provide conditioning and help to hold the curl pattern from the rollers in place. The setting lotion can also make the hair fluffy without being frizzy. If your hair is relaxed, you can achieve more fluffiness by using large magnetic rollers, because when you take the rollers out, the curls will be loose and full. For natural African hair, medium or small rollers are best, since your hair already has a fluffiness and natural curl pattern. The uniform curls will simply add more body.

2. Use a comb to gently part the hair into a small section before molding the hair around the magnetic roller. Secure the hair with a clip once it's all the way around the roller.

3. Continue parting the hair and applying the rollers and clips until all the hair is rolled.

4. Fill a spray bottle with water and lightly mist the strands to bring the moisture back if your hair starts to dry during the rolling process.

5. Sit under a bonnet dryer until your hair is completely dry. The length of your hair and size of the curls will determine drying time, since longer hair may take longer to fully dry.

6. Remove the magnetic rollers and comb through your hair with your fingers or a small comb to give your hair the shape you want.

Remove Green Tone From Blonde Hair

Remove Green Tone From Blonde Hair

If you have blonde hair, you may notice that if you swim in a chlorinated swimming pool, your hair becomes discolored. The same tint of green can also appear when your hair has been exposed to too much sunlight. Before you try a drastic procedure such as dyeing your hair or purchasing a chemical product to rid the hair of the green tint, consider a home remedy.

Instructions

1. Lean over a sink or tub and spread about 3 cups of ketchup over the entire surface of your hair. You may need more ketchup if you have long or thick hair.

2. Comb the ketchup into your hair with the comb to distribute it evenly. Leave it in for about 30 minutes.

3. Rinse the ketchup out of your hair with cold water.

4. Shampoo your hair as normal, taking care to remove the ketchup completely. Rinse your hair again.

5. Dry your hair as you usually would do, and check for a green tint. If there is still a slight tint of green in your hair, repeat the process.

Read Emo Anime

Read Emo Anime

Completely separate from the American emo music scene, anime emo pulls at the heartstrings with emotional tales of death and loss. Still, the sad-faced anime characters have come to represent emo kids in America. Many of the popular emo anime films have been made into manga (comic books) for you to read.

Instructions

Find Emo Content to Devour

1. Find emo manga anywhere Japanese comic books are sold. Emo characters are quite popular in both anime and manga. If your local comic-book store doesn't carry a good selection of manga, try a Japanese bookstore.

2. Look for covers with sad characters, who are usually shown in depressing scenes. Rain, apocalyptic cities and other bleak settings usually indicate an emotional read is in store. Colors tend to be on the somber side as well, with lots of grays and blues.

3. Check for plots based on hopeless love, dieing partners or family members, solitude, alienation and sacrifice. These plot elements build a strong emo storyline. It is not uncommon to find a main character lose half her family in an accident, be rejected by the surviving member and discover that she has a terminal illness.

4. Give in to romance. Usually, romantic manga tends towards the sexual or the cute, but with emo manga, you'll find heartbreak and loss that makes the story anything but sappy. A common theme is long-distance relationships, often over not just actual distance, but over time as well.

5. Keep your eyes open for English titles that include the words "cry" or "loss." These titles almost always signify an emo read.

6. Read your favorite anime movie. Most anime is retold in manga. Sometimes, the style of the characters differs from manga to anime, but the story usually remains faithful.

Hairstyles For Round Faces And Wavy Hair

Short haircuts add height and definition to round faces.

You face shape--be it round, oval or rectangular--has a lot to do with what hair styles look best on you. Certain hairstyles even out features on a round face; however, other factors such as age, lifestyle, and personal style should be considered as well. There are common hairstyles worn on a round face that can be used as guidelines to help you choose a style which works best for you personally. When deciding, ask a friend to give you an honest opinion before you make a decision, having another's input is very helpful when deciding on a hairstyle.

Short Boy Cut

A short boy cut will give height to a round face shape. When paired with wavy hair, boy cuts have an extra bit of volume that makes styling a snap. A short boy cut is composed of hair cut to about 1 to 2 inches all over, with hair slightly longer in the front to serve as bangs. To style this look in the morning, run a brush through it to smooth out the hair. Follow up with some medium hold hairspray to keep it from becoming unruly throughout the day.

Bob Cut

A wavy bob cut with longer bangs will frame a round face and accentuate the lips. To achieve this look, have your hair cut straight across about 1 inch above your shoulders. This makes your neck line appear longer. Ask your hairdresser for longer bangs which hang at brow height and bring attention to your eyes. To wear this style, you only need to brush it out to smooth your curls a bit, followed with relaxed hold hairspray to keep your hair in check for the day.

Long Hair

Long hair with layered bangs will have a slimming effect on round face shapes. To achieve this style, ask your hairdresser to trim the front of your hair to give you layered bangs down to your ear line. These will frame your face and add definition. Wear the rest of your hair long, smoothed out with a brush for a slimming effect on your entire face and neck line. This style can be pulled back in a tight ponytail, leaving the bangs down, as an alternative way to wear the cut.

Check A Man'S Haircut For Unevenness

Check a Man's Haircut for Unevenness

Although cutting a man's hair in a short style is relatively easy, your job doesn't end once you put away the clippers. Before the haircut is complete, you must check his hair for unevenness. If you do find uneven sections, you need to fix his hair before sending him off.

Instructions

1. Brush away the hair on the back of his neck. You want to first clean the area in order to get a better view.

2. Go over the hair using your finger as your guide. Look for any spots that do not match up with the rest of the hair.

3. Cut away the excess hair. When you do find an uneven section, use a razor or scissors to cut and make it even with the other sections. Snip small amounts so that you don't trim away too much hair.

4. Check the hairline over the rest of the head. Continue going over his hair with your finger until it matches. Pay extra attention to the areas behind the ears. Save the front of his head to check last for uneven spots.

5. Trim the entire head of hair if you go too short. If you cut it too much when checking for unevenness, you will have to redo the entire head.

Cut Texturized Bangs

Cutting textured bangs gives your hair a wispy effect.

If you wear bangs, learning trim them yourself saves a lot of money on salon visits for maintenance. The technique for texturized bangs is easy enough for most people to master and is far more forgiving than straight horizontal bangs. Adding texture to bangs gives them a wispy look that hides small imperfections.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair and make sure it is dry before cutting. Comb your bangs down in front of your face and then comb the rest of your hair back away from your face and pin or tie it back. If you are cutting new bangs, leave a triangular section of hair that extends slightly beyond the end of each eyebrow. Brush this section of hair forward.

2. Hold the bangs section of your hair between the pointer and middle fingers of your nondominant hand. Draw your fingers down to about one-half inch longer than you want your bangs to be and cut across with a pair of small, sharp scissors. Work slowly to avoid accidentally cutting too much.

3. Brush your bangs forward again and hold between your fingers, this time one-quarter of an inch longer than you want your bangs to be. Slowly make vertical cuts across the bangs with your small, sharp scissors. This technique is called pointing because it results in a textured bang, rather than one straight cut.

Make A Spiral Lanyard

Make a Spiral Lanyard

A lanyard is a rope or cord that when wrapped around the the neck or wrist is used to carry objects. One of the easiest ways to make a decorative lanyard is using gimp--a flat plastic strip of lacing that is used for numerous craft projects. You can buy gimp at craft stores and art supply stores in dozens of colors, and it is very inexpensive. It's a great craft for kids, because it takes hand-eye coordination, and it's very easy to learn the basic plaits, knots and weaves. There are many variations and patterns, and the spiral pattern is one of the most popular. Making a lanyard with this pattern is only one option. You can also use it to make key chains, bracelets, anklets and more.

Instructions

1. Lay out two pieces of gimp in different colors. For instance, take one piece of white gimp and one black.

2. Fold each piece of gimp in half and pinch it to mark the center.

3. Lay the center of the white gimp across the center of the black gimp to form a plus sign.

4. Cross the ends of the black piece over the white piece, and hold it in place with your finger. The black piece should now be wrapped around the white piece.

5. Take one end of the black piece and fold it over the first fold in the white piece, inserting it into the loop formed by the next fold of the white piece. Hold it in place with your finger.

6. Take the same step with the other end of the black piece: Fold it over the first fold in the white piece, inserting it into the loop formed by the second fold of the white piece. Pull it gently to tighten the knot.

7. Fold both ends of the white piece at a diagonal across the lanyard. Hold the two pieces in place with your finger.

8. Fold one end of the black piece over the next fold in the white piece. Insert the black piece into the next loop in the white piece. Pull again to tighten and fix the hold. It should hold itself in place now.

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you have the length of lanyard you want.

10. Take a lighter or a match and quickly melt the end of the lanyard so the weave doesn't unfold.

Current Prom Hairstyles

Prom hairstyle and dress

Prom is one of the most memorable moments of your life. Like weddings, prom hairstyles should be treaded with caution; if your prom hairstyle is too trendy, you'll likely regret the look 10 years from now. You've seen the horrid hairstyles your mom and aunts likely donned in their 1970s and 1980s prom photos. Avoid your own prom-hair hell by donning one of two timeless and breathtaking hairstyles inspired by two of the country's most successful teen musicians, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.

Half Up-Do

Rip out a page of the glamorous hair chronicles of Miley Cyrus and don a romantic half up-do to prom. According to MyLifeTime.com, "If you have a round face or small head, this style can create volume and romance." To create the look, you'll need a one-inch barrel curling iron, hair spray, a comb and bobby pins. Begin with straight hair. Starting about an inch below your temples, part your hair horizontally from ear to ear. Tie up the top section into a small bun, just to get it out of the way; you'll be working on your lower hair first. Next take your curling iron and curl the portion of your hair that is loose. Start with the hairs that are closest to your face and then work your way outward.

When you're done curling, run your fingers through your strands to break up the curls, and then apply hair spray. Keep your iron on; you'll be using it later. Next, remove the bun and smooth out the top of your hair with a comb. Take two to five bobby pins and pin your hair at the back so it forms a half pony tail. If your hair is thick, you can use a jeweled barrette to keep hair in place. Take the "ponytail" part of your hair and curl the loose strands that remain uncurled. Mist lightly with hairspray to get a lasting finish.

Soft Curls

It's undeniable that Taylor Swift can play a guitar beautifully. It seems she also can work a set of hot rollers like a pro. Recreate the romantic soft curls worn by Taylor using just a set of hot rollers and a bit of hairspray. If you're familiar with styling your hair using standard hair rollers, you'll find this process pretty simple (if you're unfamiliar with the process, see Resources). Before beginning, pin your bangs or the strip of hair that will act as your bangs away from the rest of your hair. Place the hot rollers on your hair vertically rather than horizontally, as to create tight ringlet curls. Cover your entire head in hot rollers, then take your bangs and apply a roller; applying the roller in an outward curl allows the curl to frame your face. After you've applied your hot rollers, wait 20 minutes or until the rollers are completely cool to remove. Run your fingers through the hair once to break up the curl, then part your hair and lightly mist with hair spray.

Heal A Flaking Scalp

A dry, flaking scalp can be aggravating.

There's nothing more embarrassing than a dry, flaking scalp. The white flakes can often be seen in hair and on the shoulders of sweaters and jackets. Dandruff can be caused by a variety of things, including temperature shift, diet and stress. There are a few habit changes and tips you can try to heal a dry, flaking scalp.

Instructions

1. Choose a good shampoo, intended for dandruff prevention or treatment. Any product containing selenium sulfide can help ease the dandruff. Shampoo daily with the product and massage your scalp as well.

2. Avoid stress or engage in activities like exercise or meditation that will help alleviate stress. Stress is known to cause dandruff.

3. Eat a well balanced, healthy diet and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This will keep your skin functioning at its highest level and will help combat the dry, flaking skin.

4. Spend time in the sunshine if possible. The sun will give an added dose of vitamin D, which is known to help cure dry, flaking scalp.

Hairstyles To Go Out For Night Clubbing

Many hair styles can be worn for an evening of clubbing

Getting past the bouncer's velvet ropes may not be your biggest challenge when going out for an evening of clubbing. While you may have the perfect slinky dress, to-die-for stilettos and sensationally shimmering lip gloss, your hairstyle may be the biggest feat. With a little imagination and a little inspiration, you can sport a winning look that will give you hours of flair for your night on the town.

The Slick Ponytail

A ponytail with a smooth polish presents plenty of style to any outfit you wear. Most importantly it keeps hair out of your face and with enough hair product will maintain its smooth finish through hours of sweat. To get this look, slick your wet, clean hair back with a finishing polish. Blow dry or flat iron it straight. Create a high ponytail on your head with an elastic band (avoid scrunchies). Wrap a piece of the hair from your ponytail around the band to hide it. Curl your ends if your hair is uneven or leave it straight for a crisp look.

Tossled Tresses

Planned dishevelment is also a look that is perfect for nightclubbing. You can have more freedom and fun going wild if your hair is already half-way there. Some salons are inundated with requests to create wild curls. If you have long hair, achieving this look may be less of a challenge. If your hair is short, consider removable hair extensions for a dramatic transformation.

French Braid

If you want a bohemian-chic look go for a french braid. You can french braid along the front of your hair line (from one ear to the other) and let the back of your hair flow down. This will be sure to keep the hair off your face while you groove to the music. If you want complete control of your hair, apply a styling product to clean wet hair. Blow dry it, but not completely straight -- this will give your braid some fullness. Part your hair on one side and french braid your hair down the center, on one side, or apply a single braid on each side.

Naturally Flowing

One way to keep a youthful, natural appearance is to avoid overdone hair that has high volume or too many tendrils. One way to achieve this look for an evening of nighclubbing is by giving your hair a natural look. If you have long hair, apply butterfly clips to the sides while wet. Waves will form once your hair is dry. Remove the clips and style your waves with your fingers and apply a mist of hair spray to help keep the form. Use clips to pull back from your face if desired. If your hair is short, apply a styling balm to give your hair texture.

Long Shag Hair Styles

Shaggy hair gets a reputation for being unkempt and undesirable, but there are ways to give it style. Shag styles are funky, innovative and guaranteed to make you stand out in a crowd. Professional stylists have the knowledge to turn shag cuts into works of art. With a few tips you can turn your shag into a masterpiece. Grab your best styling tools and get to work.

Hippie Halo Braided Shag

This style is simple, fun and only for the carefree. Take clean, wet hair and allow it to air dry. Once the hair is completely dry, take a texturizing spray and run it along the roots and hair shaft with your hands. Part hair down the middle, and on one side of the part go back two inches from the forehead, take a one-inch wide section of hair and begin to braid. Do the same on the other side of the part. You want the braids to be fairly small in size. Pin the braids behind the ear with a bobby pin or a decorative clip.

Glamorous Wavy Shag

This is a flirty, relaxed look that is ideal for a date or even for work. Take clean, wet hair and run a volumizing mousse through the roots. Spray a heat protectant in the hair and comb it though. Blow dry the hair on medium-to-high heat with a diffuser. Scrunch the hair as you dry to encourage a natural wave. Once hair is completely dry, run a shine serum through the hair from root to tip with your hands. Place decorative clips wherever you desire to add personal style, and finish with hairspray to hold the natural wave.

Simple Pulled-Back Shag

Not every girl is glamorous and wants a complicated look. This look is for the simple girl next door with shag. Take clean, dry hair and run a shine serum through the ends with your hands. Comb the product through the hair to evenly distribute it. Part the hair to the side and use bobby pins to pin back the front sections of hair on each side of the part. The sections will be symmetrical when you look in the mirror.

Hairstyles For Teens With Round Faces

Make your round face appear longer with a shape-flattering hairstyle.

Finding the right hair style for your face shape can be tough. Having a round face often makes the process more difficult, as round faces have a fairly specific set of styles that look good. Round faces can look chubby with certain hairstyles, even if the person isn't overweight. Understanding what classifies as a round face and learning a few of the hairstyles that are flattering to that shape can make all the difference.

Characteristic

A few simple characteristics define a round face. Stand in front of a mirror and make a mental checklist of your facial features. If you have a soft, rounded chin; a wider hairline and cheeks as full as your cheekbones, you likely have a round face. Classic examples of this shape include actresses Drew Barrymore, Audrey Hepburn, Kirsten Dunst and singer Kelly Clarkson.

What to Avoid

Hairstyles have the potential to accentuate features you like about your face--or highlight the features you aren't quite as fond of. Many women with round faces should avoid styles with long, full bangs. Bangs can make a short, round face look even fuller and rounder, taking the wearer farther and farther from the oval-shaped face, which is considered ideal. Also avoid haircuts that end at the chin; they, too, tend to make a face look rounder.

Short Cuts

Since short hair is easy to manage and style, it tends to be a popular choice for women of all face shapes. The key for round-faced gals is to add volume at the crown of the head. This gives more height and volume to the top of the head, leading to the appearance of a longer, slimmer face. This can be accomplished by layers and heightened, short bangs, which will elongate the face. Shag cuts (heavily layered and typically cut with a razor) and off-center parts also break up a rounded look and create a longer appearance.

Long Cuts

Long hair will naturally elongate a rounded face, but the key is to stay away from styles that add extra volume around the cheek area. This can be accomplished by keeping long styles straight and narrow until they pass the chin, where curls or tapered ends will help add dimension to the style. Offset, asymmetrical fringes are great as well for this purpose. If you're happy with your style but would like a coloring option to break things up a bit, try highlights that frame the face.

Use Velcro Rollers On Wet Hair

Use velcro rollers to add curls or body to your hair

If you have a busy schedule and using Velcro rollers is your preferred method to curl your hair or give it body, be careful when styling wet hair. You may have limited time on your hands yet choose to stay away from hairdryers and thermal hairstyling tools, which speed up the styling process but may damage the hair as well. If this is the case, incorporate the precautions listed here into your hairstyling regimen for optimum results with Velcro rollers.

Instructions

1. Wait until hair is damp and not soaking wet before you begin styling it. For impeccable curls, you have to allow your hair to dry completely before taking the Velcro rollers out later; it will be more of a challenge for hair to dry thoroughly if you put the rollers on when your hair is still sopping wet. If you have matters to attend to, you don't have to sit around waiting for your hair to dry. Give your hair time to air dry by taking care of other tasks in the meantime. If you have errands that require you to step out of the house, you may want to set your hair before going to bed and sleep with the rollers on so you don't have to fuss with your hair in the daytime.

2. Comb your hair to get rid of any tangles or snarls that will prevent your curls from looking smooth and flawless. Use a wide-tooth comb if your hair is long and thick. Squirt a pinch of anti-frizz serum into your palm and rub your hands together briskly to activate the product. Wipe the anti-frizz serum on your hair, running your fingers through your locks to evenly distribute the product. It is especially important to apply anti-frizz serum to damp hair to keep it from frizzing up when it comes into contact with the Velcro, which is notorious for creating static.

3. Take a fine section of hair no wider than the Velcro roller you will be using to curl it with. If you make a habit of using Velcro rollers on damp hair, invest in rollers that are covered entirely with Velcro instead of those that are merely lined with Velcro on certain spots--such as on either end of the rod--as these won't adhere to hair as securely, especially when the strands are damp. Position the roller underneath the end of the section of hair and roll upward, until the roller is resting snugly against your scalp (see Resources for a video).

4. Repeat Step 3 for your entire head of hair. You may find damp hair more challenging to roll on Velcro curlers, so remember to keep each section very fine as you roll away.

5. Allow your hair to dry, which may very well take over an hour or even two for those with thick hair. If you have time, take the rollers out at the last possible moment. Mist hair with hairspray before taking any rollers out. Do not pull the rollers out of your hair, as the Velcro will tear at your strands and make your hair tangled and frizzy. Instead, unroll the curlers patiently for a neat and polished hairstyle. Use your fingers to comb and style your hair. Do not use a brush, as this will break down the flawless shape of your curls.

Short Hairdos With Perms

Short Hairdos With Perms

When working with short hair with a perm, options can seem limited. A short curly look doesn't have the amount of versatility of longer hair, but there are still many looks one can achieve. Perms can create varied types of curls from tight ringlets to gentle waves. Aside from curl types, there are many modern and sleek short cuts that require less daily style time than longer dos.

Perm Types

A perm, short for permanent, is a process done to the hair using heat and chemicals to create waves or curls in the hair. Stylists can adjust the tightness of the curl with the amount of solution. They can also customize the size of the curl with different size rods from small to very large curls. A perm can create looks ranging from traditional round curls to spiral curls to soft gentle waves.

Curly Bobbed Cuts

A one length bob is a classic perm look. The bobbed hair can hit anywhere from ear level and below to as long as above the shoulder. This type of cut can be carried off with any type of curl. A layered bob is another look that works well with hair with a perm. At its longest part, this cut can hit from above the shoulder to ear length. Where this differs from the one length bob is that the hair is textured with layers framing the face in a shag type look. The layers can be cut throughout the hair as well with typically the longest length towards the back of the head. Both of these cuts work well with waves, creating a romantic look reminiscent of a flapper. Tight curls work well here as well, creating a traditional premed look.

Even Shorter Short looks

The ultimate low maintenance short curly cut is cut extremely short and cropped to the head - so short the hair stands on its own. This look requires little maintenance. Going a bit longer you can opt for a curly pixie cut. This cut typically is cut very close to the head and is shorter up front and longer towards the back. This look, sometimes worn by Halle Berry. can be worn with or without bangs and the bangs can be left straight or curly. Another very short cut that works with a perm is a mushroom cut. This is a very short cut that hits above the ear and is one length around the entire head. This cut can also be worn with or without bangs.

Style Tips

Hair with a perm of most lengths can be straightened. Using a straightening iron or hair dryer, cuts with even minimal length can be straightened rather quickly. If the entire head has a perm, these tools can be used to create straight bangs. Using a diffuser can ramp up the curls and gels can eliminate frizz and create more defined ringlets. Gel can also be used to create a modern sleeked back look for any hair style. Headbands often look cute with curly bobs, pixie cuts or mushroom cuts. Barrettes and clips also create a new twist on a short look. Bangs can be clipped back easily for a new look. If your cut has a part, switching from a center part to side part is easy and quickly updates a cut.

Famous Irish Wedding Toasts

Toasts are a tradition at weddings.

Wedding toasts often are given by members of the wedding party, family members or friends. Thinking of the perfect toast can sometimes be challenging, but there are always famous Irish wedding toasts that can be given to the bride and groom on their special day, whether it is an Irish wedding or not.

Spiritual

If you are looking for a spiritual Irish wedding toast, the "Most Famous Irish Blessing" is used at most Irish weddings: "May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back, the sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand."

Best Man to Bride and Groom

A best man is normally expected to give a toast to the bride and groom during the wedding reception. He can propose an Irish wedding toast to celebrate the couple's marriage. Here is a well-known one that would be fitting: "Here's to you both, a beautiful pair on the birthday of your love affair. Here's to the husband and here's to the wife. May yourselves be lovers for the rest of your life. If you lie, may you lie only to keep a friend. If you cheat, may you cheat only death. If you steal, may you steal your lover's heart. If you drink, may you drink deeply of the joy of your new life together."

Groom to Bride

A toast from a groom to his bride can make the bride feel loved and special. The groom can use this famous Irish wedding toast by author George Moore: "The hours I spend with you I look upon as a sort of a perfumed garden, a dim twilight, and a fountain singing to it. You and you alone make me feel that I am alive. Other men it is said have seen angels, but I have seen thee, and thou art enough."

Wedding Conclusion Toast

It is a tradition in Ireland for the bride and groom to toast with the wedding party at the end of a wedding, according to the Celtic Attic's website. The bride and groom will start off by saying: "Friends and relatives, so fond and dear, 'tis our greatest pleasure to have you here. When many years this day has passed, fondest memories will always last. So we drink a cup of Irish mead and ask God's blessing in your hour of need." After this, the guests will say: "On this special day, our wish to you, the goodness of the old, the best of the new. God bless you both who drink this mead, may it always fill your every need."

Do A 1930s Hairstyle

Creating hairstyles with curls were common in the 1930s.

Nowadays it's perfectly acceptable for a woman to jump out of the shower, give her hair a quick towel dry and go on her way. This is a far cry from the 1930s when hairstyles were elaborate, distinct and took time to create, like fine works of art. The 1930s were a reaction to the more androgynous hairstyles of the 1920s and far more feminine and delicate. A soft, graceful finger wave style is one of the iconic hairdos of the 1930s.

Instructions

Finger Wave Technique

1. Wash and condition your hair with products for your hair type. Towel dry your hair. Work a gel or curl setting pomade evenly through your hair from roots to ends.

2. Part your hair backward and downward or part your hair off to one side. Place the teeth of a rat tail comb firmly over a front section of hair at the crown.

3. Pull a small section of hair forward with your comb, creating a slight wave pattern, and secure this in place using a bobby pin. Repeat this move with the entire section of hair until you shape the entire section into a wave pattern. Continue shaping waves in this exact manner until you cover your whole head.

4. Curl the ends of your finger waves inward, securing them in place with dabs of gel. Locate stray tendrils around your cheeks and forehead and curl them into small curls secured along the sides of your face with tiny dabs of gel.

5. Wrap your hair in a satin scarf and blow dry your hair over medium heat until completely dry. Depending on your hair, it may take up to 30 minutes to dry. Once dry, mist your hair with an anti-frizz holding spray to keep it looking fresh.

Use Hair Permanent Plastic Capes

Use Hair Permanent Plastic Capes

When you give yourself a permanent at home, it is wise to protect your clothing as well as your skin. The chemicals contained in the hair permanent solution are strong and will seep through and damage most types of fabric.

Instructions

1. Purchase a cape for use when you do home hair permanents. The best place to find a cape for doing hair is at a beauty supply store. A cape that is made out of plastic is best so that the hair permanent solution won't soak through the material. Look for one that is made from a thin plastic that is flexible so that it will be easy to manage.

2. Choose a plastic cape for doing hair permanents that has fastening tape rather than snaps or clips. They are easier to use, especially if you are doing a hair permanent on yourself and have no one there to help you.

3. Use an old hand towel, that you don't mind messing up, when you do hair permanents. It's best to use the hand towel around your neck in order to provide extra protection. Place the hand towel snugly around your neck (from the back) and place the cape on top. Or, put the cape on first and then tuck the hand towel around the inside edges of the cape.

4. Position the plastic cape snugly around your neck before you begin to put the hair permanent solution on. Make sure that the cape is covering all of your upper body. It is especially important to cover any exposed skin with the cape to prevent the chemicals from irritating your skin.

Traditional Mexican Indian Clothing

Even modern Mexican Indians dress in traditional clothing.

Today, Mexican Indian men attire themselves in modern clothing while women still wear traditional attire. In isolated areas, both men and women dress in traditional clothing throughout the year.

Skirts and Dresses

An enredo is worn by women as a skirt. It is a wide piece of cloth without seams. A terno is a dress that is hand-embroidered and most often found in the Yucatan.

Shirts

In the Yucatan, a guayabera is a short, pleated shirt that fits loosely. Indian women wear huipils, which are sleeveless cotton blouses that are elaborately embroidered.

Jackets

Men often wear a sleeveless jacket known as a jorongo. In rainy weather, Mexican Indians wear cloaks made from palm frond, called a jaquima. Women wear the poncho-like quexquemitl, which has an opening for the head and two long corners in the front and back.

Accessories

A cenidor is an Indian sash or belt. A squared-off bag with a shoulder strap is known as a moral. The large, embellished, rectangular cloth that has an opening for the head and is worn draped over the shoulder is called a sarape.

Purchasing Clothes

Traditional Mexican Indians do not purchase their clothing in shops, but instead buy from someone within their village who makes the piece of clothing. Sometimes they'll also have a family member make their clothing.

Prom & Bridal Hairstyles

Getting the hairstyle "just right" is especially important on special occasions.

A girl always needs her hair to look absolutely fabulous on special occasions, and a girl's prom night and wedding day are particularly special. Hairstyles for these events need to be easily fashioned from a girl's existing hair length, style and color, and also need to coordinate with her gown and accessories. A variety of styles are available to help make a girl look her best---whether walking down the aisle or stepping out at the prom.

Avant-Garde Modern Renaissance

Avant-Garde Modern Renaissance is a natural style, suitable for girls who want to look special while maintaining a simple effect, according to Model Bride. Hair needs to be shoulder length or longer, although girls with shorter hair can use extensions to achieve the length. Use curling irons and setting lotion to set the hair in wavy sections that cascade down to rest on the shoulders. Height at the back is created by taking sections of hair from the sides and pinning it high on the crown at the back after hair there has been smoothed slightly. The whole effect can be set off by a simple tiara or headband with matching drop earrings, if desired. The final effect is one of hair set in open ringlets cascading down to rest naturally on the shoulders.

Perfectly Polished

This dramatic, raised style works perfectly with a strapless gown and is ideal for girls with hair lacking in body. The style requires shoulder-length hair, but this can be achieved with extensions, if required. Hair needs to be smooth and flat, so application of smoothing products on wavy or curly hair is essential prior to styling, according to Model Bride. Use a barrel-iron to give hair extra body and help smooth out natural waves. Brush the hair back into a high ponytail and smooth into a tall chignon, curled and shaped high off the crown into sculpted pin-curls. This style can be worn plain, or you can decorate it with jeweled pins. Choose pins that complement your hair and eye color and your complexion. Sparkling white diamond pins adorning the chignon suit blond hair and blue eyes, as do pale amethysts. If you choose to wear this style on your wedding day, a simple, straight veil pinned at the back of the chignon will not overwhelm the style.

Bob With French Plait

For hair cut short into a bob, you can incorporate a French plait or braid to define a parting and add a dramatic focal point to the style, which otherwise remains simple, according to Prom Hairstyles. Straighten the hair using straightening products, and finish the smoothing effect using straightening irons. Create a side parting and brush the hair at the side of the parting behind the ear. At the high side of the parting line, create a French plait and take it right back to the crown of the head, while allowing the hair to fall naturally down, partially covering one side of the face. This style does not require accessories but can be given a sparkling lift with the addition of diamond-studded pins along the line of the French plait.

Paint Hair Texture

Learn to create the look of realistic hair texture in your painting.

In order to elevate the realism of your portrait painting, you need to master the skill of capturing both facial expressions and hair texture. You can bring your subjects' hair styles to life by incorporating the proper materials and following techniques that will add both depth and body. With a little practice, you can ensure that your paintings will bring hair to life, rather than leave it lying lie flat.

Instructions

1. Pour some dark brown paint, medium brown paint and light brown paint into separate containers.

2. Dip a flat-tipped paintbrush into the medium brown paint and paint across the entire section of hair on your art paper or canvas, creating a solid base color. Whether you are painting freehand or already have sketched on a guideline with a pencil, you need to ensure the medium shade of color is used as the base coat. Wait for the paint to dry completely. Acrylic paints usually take 10 to 15 minutes to dry; refer to the instructions on the paint to be sure.

3. Dip a smaller, round-tipped paintbrush into the light brown paint and paint vertical, slightly curved lines throughout the hair to create highlights. Even natural, uncolored hair and hair that has been dyed a solid color has highlights, however subtle. The lighter color of paint helps to bring this out and create a lightness and definition in the hair. Repeat this a few times over the upper sections of hair, near the top of the head, as this is the area that would reflect the most light. Continue adding as many light pieces as desired; the more and thicker the strands, the lighter overall the hair will appear. Wait for the paint to dry completely.

4. Rinse your paintbrush, dip it into the dark brown paint and add thin lines beside each of the light brown streaks. This will add lowlights and finish off the look of natural hair texture. Continue adding as many dark pieces as desired; the more and thicker the strands, the darker overall the hair will appear.

Make Cheap Capes

A simple cape should cost little to nothing to make at home.

Kids often play dress-up to become a character out of a story, movie or plucked from imagination. Halloween also offers a chance for dress-up, not only for children but adults as well. Capes can serve a versatile role in the costume collection, as they can be used for super hero costumes, magician costumes, witch outfits and wizard wardrobes. You can make a simple and inexpensive cape at home with some fabric and a few sewing supplies.

Instructions

1. Iron 3 yards of lightweight fabric with a clothing iron. Adjust the iron temperature according to the type of fabric you are using.

2. Lay the fabric over a flat workspace.

3. Mark off the area for the main section of the cape with a fabric pen. Take into consideration, the height of the wearer. For example, a toddlers cape should be about 18 inches long on each side, 12 inches wide at the bottom of the cape and about 4-6 inches at the neck of the cape. The sides should slowly come in at the top, like a trapezoid, or a triangle with the pointed top chopped off.

4. Cut the fabric along the marked lines with scissors.

5. Fold each side in, one at a time, about 1/2 inch and again another 1/2 inch to conceals the rough, or cut, edge of the fabric. Pin the fabric down and stitch to create hems.

6. Sew down the folded hems with needle and thread, using a long straight stitch along the folds. Remove the pins.

7. Cut an 18-inch by 3-inch strip of fabric from the leftover scraps.

8. Fold the strip of fabric in half width-wise to make the strip only 1 1/2 inches wide. Sew the long edges together with needle and thread. Sew one short side together as well.

9. Turn the strip inside out by pulling the sewn end through the un-sewn end.

10. Tuck the edges of the un-sewn end inward slightly and sew through it to close the strip the rest of the way.

11. Center the strip across the top edge of the main section of the cape and sew it with a straight, tight stitch, just over the top hem, leaving the ends of the strip to function as a tie-on for the cape.

Hair Loss In Black People From Perms

Most black people have corkscrew-shaped hair that forms an afro when it grows long. Because such hair can be difficult to manage, many African Americans thermally or chemically straighten their hair. A straightening perm, also known as a relaxer, is the most popular chemical straightener amongst African Americans. It features sodium, calcium or lithium hydroxide -- chemicals that break the disulfide bonds which give hair its curl. Perms, despite their popularity, can cause breakage, scalp damage and hair loss.

About Black Hair

Natural black hair is tightly coiled into a corkscrew pattern. It tends to be matte, and its curl pattern and lack of natural oils make it susceptible to breakage when manipulated. Contrary to popular belief, black hair grows at the same rate as all other hair. But its tight curl pattern makes it appear shorter than it actually is, and its natural fragility and dryness can frustrate hair growth efforts.

Safe Relaxing

Many black women chemically straighten their hair with relaxers; relaxing is permanent, unlike heat-based straightening. Made from caustic chemicals, relaxers can burn the scalp and overprocess the hair when improperly done. Hence, if possible, only allow a professional hair stylist to relax your hair. If you must do it at home, use a children's relaxer, which is much gentler, and do not leave it in for longer than the recommended period. Afterward, thoroughly wash hair to remove all relaxer residue.

Managing Hair

Relaxers penetrate the hair cuticle as it breaks the disufilde bonds -- a process that weakens and dries hair. According to Cathy Howse, author of "Ultra Black Hair Growth," those with relaxed hair must handle it with care and routinely give it moisture and protein. They should select a moisturizing shampoo that is sulfate-free and deep condition afterward. They should apply a hair moisturizer to their hair everyday and use a protein treatment. Protein strenghtens hair by bonding to the cuticle.

Alternatives

Many alternatives are available to those who don't want to relax their hair. Pressing is the act of oiling hair with pomade and combing it with a hot metal comb. Flat ironing is another straightening method. If the hair becomes wet, however, it reverts to its natural shape. Some black women style their hair in braids, and cornrows, pixie braids and microbraids, some of the most popular styles.

Is It Safe To Bleach Hair

Is It Safe to Bleach Hair?

Hair lightening is a popular cosmetic process that can be performed at a salon or at home. It is used either to simply lighten the overall tint of the hair or to prepare it for coloring with a dye. The main active ingredient in most hair bleaches is hydrogen peroxide. Additional active ingredients generally include some combination of ammonium or potassium persulfate and alcohol (isopropyl, ethyl or cetearyl).

Facts

Proper use of hair bleach is one of the main factors that determine the safety level of the bleaching process. Pretesting is necessary to rule out the likelihood of an allergic reaction. Bleach must be kept away from the eyes and should not make any prolonged contact with the skin (highlighting mixtures should not touch the scalp at all). Appropriate ventilation helps prevent the buildup of chemical fumes during processing. Wearing protective gloves and not leaving the lightener on for too long are also standard precautions.

Dangers

Many individuals are allergic to one or more of the active ingredients in hair bleach. Allergic reactions can manifest as hives (painful, itchy welts). These may occur the first time a particular bleaching product is used or during any subsequent use. Ammonium persulfate in particular is known to trigger asthma attacks and other respiratory symptoms in allergy-prone individuals. Improper use can cause chemical burns and blisters on the skin. Bleach is a highly poisonous substance that should never be ingested.

Hair Damage

The bleaching process works by oxidizing melanin and other components in the hair. This chemical reaction is somewhat harmful to hair since oxidation is the same process as burning--just at a lower heat and a slower rate. Leaving the mixture in place for too long or bleaching the hair repeatedly can cause serious damage to the cuticle. Bleached hair often becomes fragile and may fall out at a faster than normal rate. Even proper application leaves hair in need of frequent conditioning to avoid breakage.

FDA

The Food and Drug Administration has limited control over the ingredients used in hair products since they are generally considered to be cosmetics rather than drugs. Just because a particular brand of hair bleach has no caution or warning labels does not mean the FDA considers it to be safe or that it contains only approved chemicals. Individuals with allergies or sensitive skin should always review the entire list of ingredients on the back of the package before using any hair-lightening product.

Alternatives

A popular alternative to chemical bleaches is the application of lemon juice followed by exposure to UV radiation from the sun. This can highlight the hair but won't turn a brunette into a blond. It still dries the hair out to some extent.

In March of 2009, Japanese scientist Dr. Kenzo Koike announced at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society that an eco-friendly hair bleach is under development. It uses fungal enzymes activated by a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to lighten hair. This new product may eventually provide a safer option for users who wish to avoid the harsh, damaging effects of current hair-bleaching products.

Use Scurl Texturizer

A man can change his look with an S-Curl.

You can alter your coarse or curly hair by applying a hair texturizer. Luster's S-Curl texturizer is made for men who want to change the appearance and feel of their hair. It is made up of chemicals that loosen the curl pattern of the hair. The S-Curl is sold as a kit, with the accompanying products needed for maintenance after the application. The intended result is wavy, smooth hair that is easier to manage.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair if it has a buildup of oil or hair products, then allow it to dry and wait 24 hours before applying the S-Curl.

2. Rub a protective gel around your hairline to prevent irritation or chemical burns on the skin, then put on the disposable gloves.

3. Scoop the S-Curl texturizer cream from the container, using the end of a medium-sized tooth comb. Slather the cream on your hair, starting at the curliest or most resistant area. Continue the process until all of your hair is covered.

4. Comb the product through your hair, in the direction of your usual style. Set the timer for 10 to 15 minutes. Evaluate the texture of your hair when time is up. Add processing time if your hair has not achieved the intended "S" pattern.

5. Rinse the texturizer from your hair with warm water. Don't let the dirty water enter your ears or eyes.

6. Wash your hair using the shampoo from the kit. It is designed to produce pink bubbles if any texturizing cream remains in your hair. Continue washing your hair until the suds turn white. Then rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.

7. Blot your hair with a towel to remove extra water. Don't allow your hair to dry completely.

8. Saturate your hair with the spray from the kit and rub it in. For a curly style, gently lift the ends of your hair with a comb or pick. For a wavy style, comb your hair into the style you want, using a small-toothed comb.

What Shears Do I Cut My Border Collie'S Hair With

Border collies have medium length hair that comes in a variety of coat types. They have a multilayered coat, which changes composition depending on the time of year because of shedding. Selecting the right tools for grooming your border collie is important. There are several types of shears that can be used for grooming dogs, but they all have different purposes.

Electric Shears

Electric shears are also known as clippers. They are useful for trimming large areas of your border collie's hair to a specific length. Electric shears come with a variety of guards that allow you to select the length you want to clip the dog's coat. If the dog's coat is very matted, you can use electric shears to cut the hair close to the skin. Select clippers that are UL listed and have detachable blades to make cleaning the clippers easier. You can also buy replacement blades when they get dull.

Thinning Shears

Thinning shears look like scissors, except that one of the blades has teeth like a comb. This allows thinning shears to cut only half the hairs when the blades are closed. Thinning shears are mainly used to make the dog's coat lighter, so it doesn't trap as much heat. This can make the dog more comfortable in hot weather. Thinning shears also have the advantage of not showing a solid line of cut hair, which makes it easier to hide grooming mistakes.

Hand Shears

Hand shears are similar to scissors used for cutting human hair, except they have rounded tips. The rounded tips prevent the dog from being poked accidentally. They should be used to trim small areas of hair where you want all the hairs the same length, such as behind the ears and between the toes. Hand shears are also good for removing smaller mats and tangles, particularly if your dog does not like to be brushed. Slide a comb between the mat and the skin, then carefully cut through the mat. Take care not to pull on the dog's skin.

What to Do Afterwards

If your border collie is dirty, after you've clipped is the best time for a bath to wash out all the loose hair. You should always cut dog hair when it is dry. Cutting wet dog hair is much more difficult and harder on the shears. If your dog is clean, or you've already bathed and dried the collie, brush out the loose hair with a slicker brush. Slicker brushes are large, flat brushes with hooks that are specially designed to trap and lift dead and detached hairs. After the loose hairs are out of the dog's coat, a final pass with a finishing comb or grooming brush will complete the job.

Make Coarse Hair Soft

You can make your coarse hair soft and manageable.

Coarse hair is difficult to style and can look like a brillo pad on your head if you're not careful. Since coarse hair is so thick, it needs a lot more moisture than other hair types. Thus, you have to spend extra time on the maintenance of your hair. However, you will be happy with the effort when you run your hands through your formerly coarse hair and feel the silky softness.

Instructions

1. Use a conditioner after shampooing. Do not skimp on this step. You can find a quality conditioner at any drug store. Buy a conditioner for dry or coarse hair and follow the directions on the label.

2. Apply a special moisturizing treatment once a week. You don't have to spend a fortune. In fact, you can use ingredients already in your home, such as mayonnaise. Just apply enough mayonnaise to evenly cover your hair. Leave it in for an hour, then wash it out with your shampoo. Alternatively, apply a hot oil treatment using olive oil or jojoba oil. Warm the oil in a microvave and apply it to your hair. Leave it in your hair for at least 15 minutes before you wash it out.

3. Allow your hair to dry naturally as much as possible. Stay away from heat, such as blow dryers, curling irons or hair straighteners, which can rob your hair of moisture. If you must use a heated styling product, apply a heat-protector spray first. Find alternative ways to style your hair. For instance, you can use large plastic rollers on damp hair to straighten it. You can use sponge rollers in your hair to add waves.

Use Remington Flexi Curls

Using Remington Flexi Curls is an innovative way of curling your hair. It involves using plastic hot sticks to curl hair, heating them in a special incubator-type container that keeps them hot. This set-up gives the user more control over the results that they get, making ringlets or large, bouncy curls much easier to achieve. This also allows you to curl your hair while doing your makeup as you do not need your hands. They are easy to use.

Instructions

1. Turn on the container and allow to heat. This can take up to 10 minutes. As the hot sticks heat up, they change color, which indicates that they are ready.

2. Comb through your hair to ensure it is tangle free. You may wish to spray your hair with water, as damp hair can be easier to section.

3. Section hair into 2cm-thick sections using a comb and water if necessary. Spray hair lightly so hair is damp, rather then wet, as wet hair is harder to style.

4. Wind hair around the roller, starting from around 1cm from the end of the roller. Wind up to the scalp and push the end of the roller through the hole on the opposite end to secure.

5. Leave for the recommended time. This is between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on your hair type and the type of curls desired. Thin hair will curl fast, and 15 minutes on thin hair will result in very tight ringlets. Thicker hair will take longer to curl.

6. Unhook the roller and roll down the hair, unwinding as you move down.

Easy Everyday Short Hairstyles

Short hairstyles include traditional cuts and avant guard styling.

Hairstyles classified as easy require little or no effort to make them presentable. This depends on the texture of your hair and your time expectations for washing and styling it. Easy might involve a traditional long hair style put together in a matter of minutes, but a short haircut is the easiest to quickly style for everyday fashion.

Curly and Short

Curly short hairdos work well for oval faces. Simple curly bobs longer in the back are easy to dry, using your fingers to assist with curl formation. A modified short hairstyle using a longer portion of hair to frame the face on each side is a do that works well on round or square faces. This styling allows an alternative do that pulls back the hair on the sides into a clip or barrette on the top or near the rear of the head. "Teen Vogue" suggests adding a soft pin curl on each side of the curly bob to soften the look. A curling iron is necessary to create this easy accent, according to the magazine. Popular celebs Meg Ryan and Halle Berry sported curly short dos early in their careers.

Straight and Easy

The bob and the Pixie cut are short hairstyles that allow easy styling for everyday wear. The Pixie cut, made popular in the late 1950s and early 60s by actress Audrey Hepburn, is recommended by "Glamour" magazine as a fast and easy everyday short style. The magazine's editors note actress Naomi Campbell's feathered bangs as an option to make this do even easier to style after washing. The Pixie style draws attention to the eyes by bringing the line of the haircut over the eyebrows. It also leaves the chin open, so people with extremely square jaw lines should avoid this style. The cut accentuates a severe line to the jaw. The bob is a short style that can be adapted to suit the shape of the individual face. This easy cut also allows bangs or incorporation of light feathering near the face. Both the bob and the Pixie require minimal care and styling.

Extremely Short and Easy

A buzz cut is undoubtedly the easiest everyday short hairstyle, at least for the first week after the cut is done. "Glamour" magazine gives the nod to artist Amber Rose's nearly-there do. The upside is you can shampoo and be ready to go immediately. The downside is upkeep when you decide to grow your hair longer. Constant trimming and styling is necessary to make the new hair appear stylish for work or a night on the town. This extremely short and easy do is appropriate for people with perfectly symmetrical heads. Buzz cuts show any large bumps or uneven sections on the head, calling attention to imperfections. Before going for a buzz cut hairstyle, consult a professional stylist for an evaluation to see if your head is suitable.

Formal Party Hairstyles For Teens

Bun

Getting all dolled up for formal events is tricky for teens. It is safe to stick to classic looks, like an Audrey Hepburn bun or Marilyn Monroe makeup, but you are better off taking a bit of a risk. Teens should go for a cute hairstyle that allows a bit of youth and playfulness to shine through their look.

Pixie

Thanks to Hollywood starlets like Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes and Sienna Miller, teens have caught the pixie bug. If you are currently donning this cut and are looking for a cute hairstyle that is appropriate for a formal affair, here is your answer.

Start by running gel through your fingers and evenly applying it throughout your hair. Then, use your fingers to create texture and body by slightly pulling up longer strands to create gentle and feminine waves throughout your hair. Finish off the look by slipping on a jeweled headband.

Beachy Waves

Beachy waves are a very age appropriate formal-worthy hairstyle. It gives the sophistication of soft curls without the uniformity of full-on ringlets. You will need hairspray and a curling iron; choose a 1-inch curling iron if your hair is short to medium length and a 1.5-inch curling iron if your hair is medium length to long.

Wrap hair around the barrel in an outwards motion for 15 seconds. Repeat until your entire head is curled. Run fingers through your hair to separate curls and mist lightly with hairspray. For an extra hint of glamour, consider using a crystal bobby pin to keep bangs in place.

Braided Updo

Instead of wearing a truly formal updo, consider a more youthful alternative. Opting for an updo with a braided headband injects the appropriate amount of youthfulness.

Start by parting a 1-inch section of your hair from ear to ear and then braiding. Secure the open end of the braid with a bobby pin and lightly mist with hairspray. Then, take a 1-inch curling iron and curl entire head in 1-inch sections. Wrap your hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and pin up random strands of hair with bobby pins until all of your hair is pinned. Mist with hairspray to set.

Homemade Devil Costumes

Homemade devil costumes

Designing a homemade devil costume provides parents with an easy and inexpensive Halloween costume. Consider a homemade devil outfit when you're short on time and need a costume in a pinch. Many of the supplies can be found around the house or think about some creative alternatives. Use a red clothing as a costume base, or wear black to make the red devil items stand out more.

Devil's Horns

Design one of the most important elements to a devil costume -- the devil's horns. Purchase a plastic headband and a pair of rubber gloves. Grab some cotton balls, red glitter and glue to complete the devil's horns. Cut two fingers from the rubber gloves and stuff with cotton balls to make them stiff. Hold them in place to ensure they are the correct size before gluing and glittering. Cover the entire finger tip with glue and red glitter. Dry completely. Use hot glue to attach the devil's horns to the headband. Consider marking with a pencil or permanent marker where the horns should be placed so they are glued in the correct spots. Hold in place until the glue is dry.

Devil's Pitchfork

Consider several designs for a devil's pitchfork. Find a large cardboard box or poster board and draw a pitchfork design. Allow kids to paint, color or cover the pitchfork in glitter. These are quick designs and light to carry. Another idea for making a devil's pitchfork is to cut two pieces of red felt into a pitchfork shape. Use felt glue to seal the edges, leaving the bottom open. Allow the glue to dry and stuff the pitchfork with cotton balls. Paint a gift-wrap tube, broomstick or wooden dowel red and place in the bottom of the pitchfork. Seal the bottom of the felt with the glue. Dust the felt with glitter, if desired.

Devil's Tail

Complete the homemade devil costume with a tail. Cut a strip of red felt about 4 inches wide and the desired length of the tail. Fold the felt in half lengthwise and use felt glue to attach the two long edges. Allow the glue to dry and turn the tail inside out. Cut two triangles, about 3 inches wide, from another piece of red felt. Glue the triangles together over one end of the tail. Straighten a metal hanger and push through the tail. This allows the tail to be shaped. Stuff the tail lightly with cotton balls, if needed. Seal the other end with felt glue and use safety pins to attach to the devil's clothing.

Cinderella Kid'S Birthday Party Ideas

Cinderella Kid's Birthday Party Ideas

Little girls love to be princesses. A Cinderella party is appropriate for girls from approximately three to seven years old.

Invitations

Use commercially available princess invitations or create your own royal scroll, tied with a ribbon and written in calligraphy (or calligraphy font).

Decorations

Create a castle atmosphere using white, purple, blue and pink. Create a "red carpet" leading into your house with a piece of red remnant fabric. Use a white sheet or tablecloth and a runner of blue or purple on the table. Create a princess throne in the same way, by draping a white sheet over a chair and decorating with ribbons, flowers and tulle. Finish it all off with balloons and sparkly confetti.

Games

Modify standard party games to match your theme. For instance, play "Pin the Tiara on the Princess," or pass the royal gift (a present wrapped in princess-style paper many times, unwrapped once when the music stops). Hide the girls' shoes with a plastic glass slipper inside each one as a favor, or for older girls, hold a treasure hunt to find Cinderella's slipper.

Activities

Princess crafts such as decorating tiaras or making fairy godmother wands are always a hit. Don't forget to hold the "Royal Ball" at some point in the party with music and dancing.

Cake and Snacks

Serve pink lemonade or another pink punch and sandwiches cut into shapes with cookie cutters. For the cake, use a sheet cake decorated with flowers and place a tiara on top. For something fancier, you can create a castle using a sheet cake and building it up with cupcakes, finishing off with upside-down ice cream cones and decorated with gumdrops and other candies.

Favors

A few Disney princess items can add be added to generic items such as stick-on earrings, star lollipops (resembling wands), as well as the crafts and treats from the party, which they should add to their treat bags as the party progresses.

Perm Hair Properly

If you usually perm your own hair at home or for others, here's a way to avoid droopy curls and strong perm odor left in hair.

Instructions

1. Choose the correct perm for the hair. Lightly shampoo the hair and wrap the hair in rods while wet. Thoroughly saturate each rod with wave lotion/perm solution. Let process according to manufacture's directions.

2. Rinse rods thoroughly for at least 7 minutes. This will remove all of the wave lotion and lessen the strength of the perm scent when complete. One of the biggest problems in perming hair is the scent of the perm lotion left behind due to improper rinsing. Also, perm solution not completely rinse may cause chemical damage to the hair.

3. Blot each perm rod with folded paper towels. Paper towels are used for maximum asorption. Repeat as many times neccessary. Apply neutralizing solution, process, remove rods and rinse. A light conditioner may be used, but do not shampoo. Improperly blotted rods will produce a weak curl. It is very important to remove as much water as possible.
