Simple Hairstyles For Curly Hair

Curly hair can be beautiful and fun to wear when you understand work with your hair type. Learning which cuts to get and style your hair will help to ensure that your curly locks are the envy of your friends and family members. A little planning can help you to say goodbye to bad hair days and usher in a new era of curly hair glamor.

Curly Hair Health

The best haircut in the world will do nothing for your curly hair if you don't keep it healthy. Curly hair usually needs a lot of moisture. Be sure to wash your hair only when you really need to in order to avoid drying out your locks. Use moisturizing shampoos, and don't forget to use conditioner after each shampoo. You should also use leave-in conditioners that help to define your curls and minimize frizz.

The Right Cut

Curly hair tends to get bushy when it is cut without layers. Blunt cuts will cause your days to be filled with trying to figure out tame your hair. Instead of blunt cuts, ask your stylist to use layers and a razor to help thin your hair a bit so it frames your face nicely. Curly hair does well with cuts of all lengths, as long as the bulk of the hair is thinned around the face so it does not detract from your facial features. Find a stylist who specializes in curly hair, and be sure to let her know that you intend on wearing your hair curly and not straightening it, as this will affect the cut she gives you.

Styling With a Dryer

If you use a hairdryer to style your hair each day, be sure to invest in a one that comes with a diffuser. Drying your hair without the diffuser is a recipe for frizzy, dry hair instead of beautifully defined curly hair. Apply leave-in conditioner to your hair and use the diffuser while lightly scrunching damp hair until it is dry. Finish by spritzing with alcohol-free hairspray.

Air Drying

Air drying curly hair is generally easy to do. If you are in a hurry in the morning, simply comb some styling product through wet hair and position your curls how you want them. Go about your day as normal and bring a hair pick with you. When your hair is dry, use the pick to loosely comb through your curly hair. Using a brush will give you frizzy hair, so don't do that. Finish by applying a bit of finishing oil for shine and frizz control.

On Bad Hair Days

If you find yourself having a bad hair day, find ways to put your hair up. If you have long, curly hair, simply pulling your curly locks into a loose ponytail or bun can help to give you a sultry romantic look. If your hair is shorter, apply some water and styling product to your hair and secure with pretty hair clips to pull it off of your face. Braids and cornrows may also be an option for difficult hair days. As an added benefit, when you take your hair out of the braids, your curls will be extra shiny and defined.
