Make Cinderella'S Original Dress

Cinderella wore her dress with long, white gloves.

Cinderella is the classic fairytale princess who enjoys a rags-to-riches makeover and captures the heart of the handsome prince. Many little girls enjoy dressing up as Cinderella for a theme party or special event. Cinderella's original dress in the 1950 Disney movie was white, although it was altered in the '90s to light blue for promotional reasons.

Instructions

1. Wear a long, white dress as a base for this costume. Scour thrift stores and secondhand bridal departments for a suitable dress to adapt. The basic dress can be quite plain, as you will add embellishments. Ideally the dress should be sleeveless, or have short, puff sleeves.

2. Make a tulle petticoat to wear under the dress, to make it bell out, away from the body. Tie long strips of stiff tulle onto an elastic waistband using slipknots to make a tutu-style petticoat.

3. Create an overskirt by draping loops of white tulle over each side of the skirt, coming to a point at the center of the waistline front and back. Secure in place by sewing the tulle or fastening it with safety pins. Hot glue lace or ribbon on to cover the pins if necessary.

4. Add stick-on jewels and diamante embellishments to the skirt and bodice of the dress. If your dress is sleeveless, add small puff sleeves by wrapping a loop of white tulle around the top of each arm at the shoulders and sewing or pinning it in place.

5. Finish the look with long white gloves. Wear a black choker necklace, or make one from black ribbon, adding stick-on diamante decorations. Wear a white hairband or tiara and pin long hair up, away from the face. Wear silver or white shoes or pumps.
