Use Hair Spray Color

Hair spray color can help with thin or graying hair.

Mention hair spray color, and you may get visions of dark streaks dripping down your face the moment you start to sweat or it rains. But if you are balding or starting to gray and you don't want to make a commitment to a more permanent solution, hair spray color may be a better option than you think. It allows you to improve the look of your hair, and waterproof formulas leave you confident that the spray will stay where it belongs.

Instructions

1. Find the correct hair spray color. The color needs to be as close to yours as possible. If you like, you can go to a hair salon and match it up with hair color samples. Hair salons who do color have these available for their clients and will assist you in finding the right one.

2. Buy the color you need. Not everyone carries these types of products, so you may want to look online or check with stores by phone to determine whether they have what you need. Make sure that the product is waterproof so it won't run or fade if it rains.

3. Shampoo your hair. When planning on using the spray, it's best to start with clean hair. When you wash your hair, do not use conditioner, as this may affect how well the spray sticks to your hair. Dry your hair before applying the spray.

4. Get ready to spray. Place a towel around your neck to protect your clothing and skin. Shake the can, and hold it 10 to 12 inches from your head. Use short bursts of spray to cover the areas you want covered. Use a hand mirror to check the back of your head. You also might want to wear rubber gloves to prevent the color from getting on your hands. If you're just touching up gray areas, like your temples or roots, spray some of the color on your fingers while you're wearing the gloves, and gently smooth it on from top to bottom, making sure it's evenly distributed.

5. Time to clean up and check for missed or uneven areas. You may need a second opinion to help with this. Bear in mind it can take time to get used to applying the spray, so be patient.
