Stepbystep 70s Hairdos

Farrah Fawcett's feathered locks were an inspiration for 1970s hairdos.

Creating your own flower power, all natural 70s hairdo is easy. A 1970s inspired hairstyle can be achieved by using appliances or just blow drying hair straight. During the 70s if you wanted straight locks, you would iron your hair with a clothes iron as there were no hand-held ceramic straighteners available. Hairstyle fashion of this era was influenced by the hippie culture, the disco scene and Farrah Fawcett's feathered locks. Today, a 70s style is easy to achieve without having your friend literally iron your hair.

Instructions

Feathered Hairdo

1. Plug in hot rollers, curling iron or flat iron. Work mousse through damp hair and blow dry. As you blow dry, use a small round barrel brush and blow dry your locks as if you are curling them out.

2. Place hot rollers in hair and roll them backward. If you are using a curling iron, curl hair in a backward motion. The curls should begin to take on a flipped out look; the same goes for a flat iron. Whatever appliance you use, flip hair out and away from your face.

3. Run your fingers through your hair and separate locks to give a more natural look to your hair. It should look as if it is "feathered." Spray with hairspray to secure style.

Disco Style Updo

4. Part hair down the middle or to the side with a comb, then smooth hair down flat against your head using a smoothing creme. Only smooth hair to the nape of your neck.

5. Tease hair with a comb from the nape of your neck down to give it volume. Spray with hairspray to lock volume in place.

6. Gather hair as if you are going to make a low ponytail. Fold the ponytail in half and wrap an elastic band around the hair to secure in a bun. Pull hair out a little to give it a full, bubble effect. Spray hair all over to secure style.

All Natural Hairdo

7. Apply mousse to damp hair. Part hair down the middle with a comb. Use a round barrel brush and blow dry hair straight. Plug in a ceramic flat iron to heat.

8. Roll hair on top of head from the crown in 2-inch sections with Velcro rollers. This is to create volume on top. Leave in for five minutes. Remove the rollers and tease hair at the crown with a thin tooth comb. Use the comb to smooth hair over after teasing, but don't pull the tease out. You want to lightly comb over the teased area to create a smooth look.

9. Pull out one inch sections of hair and straighten using a ceramic flat iron. Repeat until hair is straight and smooth all the way around. Use hairspray to secure style. Accent this style with a thin elastic headband worn around the circumference of your head, or small floral barrettes.
