Do Hair For Semiformal Events

Semi-formal hairstyles are a little more relaxed than the more sleek and pulled-together formal styles, and require a little more attention than the simple thrown-together casual looks. A half-up half-down style is versatile and is workable into any hair type or length. Depending on your hair type or your specific cut, you may need to use more product or hair pins to hold the top section of your hair up, but you can still do it.

Instructions

1. Straighten your hair first if your hair is wavy or curly and you want it to be smoother. If your hair is already straight you should style it first and then curl it at the end.

2. Section off your hair so that you have a top-center part that runs from the front to the back of your crown. Pull your bangs out of this part if you have them. Hold the section with a clip to keep it separate. Pull the rest of your hair in a hair elastic to keep it out of the way.

3. Take the top section out of the clip and use a bristle brush to start teasing by thinner sections, starting from the back. Hold each section straight up, spritz toward the root with hairspray, and make short quick brushes down close to your scalp. This will create a bump and how much you tease will depend on how big and high your bump will be.

4. Smooth down down the top of the bump and spray a little hair spray. You goal is to make a smooth top without making it too rigid. Its okay if the top is a little bumpy but not too out-of-control.

5. Take the rest of your hair out of the hair elastic and style it way you want. Use some heat protecting spray if you are going to curl the ends of your hair or your bangs. A decorative clip on the back would be effective in hiding any visible bobby pins if you don't want them showing.
