Chinese women face many challenges when it comes to cutting and styling their hair. The straight, coarse nature of the hair makes it difficult to create a soft, flowing style that is nicely blended. Layered haircuts tend to look choppy, and curling irons and flat irons often have little effect. Chinese hair does not take perms readily. Therefore, textured cuts are vital for creating an appealing style. With two specialized techniques, Chinese hair can be cut and blended beautifully.

Point Cutting

Point cutting is ideal for softening blunt lines and adding layers to Chinese women's hair. This technique is used after the full haircut has been finished. You will need a comb, hair-cutting scissors, and a few hair clips.

Section the hair off into quarters. Pin three of the sections up and out of the way using hair clips. Create a half-inch vertical section in the remaining section of hair. Hold the hair up, away from the head with the section clamped between the first two fingers of your non-cutting hand. Your fingers should be parallel with the pre-existing blunt cut line. With the points of the scissors, cut small V-shaped cuts into the blunt line of the hair. The cuts should be no more than a quarter inch deep.

Continue point cutting the ends of the hair using half-inch sections. When one quarter section is complete, pin it out of the way and start with the next. Repeat the steps until all ends of the hair have been point cut.

Texture

If point cutting is too daunting, there is an easier alternative. You can add texture to the ends of the hair using specialized hair cutting scissors called thinning shears or notching scissors. The shears have one smooth, cutting blade and one notched blade.

Section the hair off according to the point cutting instructions. The sections for cutting will also be the same.

Create a half-inch vertical section; hold the blunt ends with the first two fingers of the non-cutting hand. Keep the shears parallel with the cut line, and close the thinning shears completely on the hair a quarter inch from the blunt cut line. The scissors will cut some of the hair and leave some intact. The end result will look softer. The ends should have a feathery appearance.

Continue texturing the ends of the hair using half-inch sections until all of the hair has been softened with the thinning shears.

Instructions

1. Wash, condition and detangle your hair as usual. Towel dry, leaving your hair damp.

2. Select the Wave Nouveau product of your choice, either the humectant or moisturizing lotion. Which of the products you choose for this step will depend on the condition of your hair. If it is normally dry, use the humectant; if it is normal, use the moisturizing lotion.

3. Squeeze a quarter sized amount of product into one of your hands. Rub your hands together to distribute the product evenly between the two.

4. Smooth both hands over the surface of your hair from front to back.

5. Part large sections of your hair with a comb or your fingers. Repeat Step 3. Smooth your hands through each section, making sure all of the hair in each part is well coated.

6. Style your hair as usual.

7. Spray with a light spritz of the finishing mist.

Instructions

1. Take the back liner out of the picture frame. Put it down on your poster board. Trace around it with a pencil. Cut the 11-inch by 14-inch square you just traced out.

2. Put the poster board cut out on newspaper. Cut the ribbon in pieces 13 inches long. Space drops of glue 2 inches apart in a line going across the board.

3. Put the ribbon on the trail of glue you just made with 1 inch of overhang on each side. Press the ribbon down on the dots of glue. Turn the poster board around and put two dabs of glue for the overhang to stick to the back.

4. Put the next piece of ribbon on at least 1 inch from the first. Continue putting ribbons on until you reach the end of the board. Wait for the board to dry.

5. Place the poster board in the picture frame, and secure it properly. Turn the picture frame around to see if the ribbon looks correct. Clip the hair bows in gaps you made with the glue and ribbon.

6. Hang the picture frame on the bedroom wall, or in a bathroom where they will be needed.

2. Gather a bundle of horse hair approximately as wide as your thumb. Secure one end using an elastic band. Insert the wire into the bundle. The wire should run the length of the horse hair.

3. Braid the hair, keeping the wire in the center bundle of the braid. Braiding the hair will conceal the wire. Use the silk cord to bind both ends of the braid. Remove the elastic band and trim excess hair.

4. On each end of the bracelet, pull the silk cord through a cap end and attach a jewelry clasp. Since the horse hair is tightly braided around the wire and secured with cap ends, it won't knot or untangle.
