Born in Melbourne, Murphy first apprenticed in a salon in Queensland and then trained at Vidal Sasoon in London. Murphy has worked with numerous celebrities and made his name as an editorial writer for high-end fashion and hair magazines. Murphy also works frequently with movie stars. He was tapped by director and fellow Australian Baz Luhrmann to style the hair for Moulin Rouge! and has worked with stars including Cate Blanchett and Enrique Igelsias.
