Cute Short Prom Hairstyles

Use hot rollers to style short hair for the prom.

Hair that is layered in a pixie cut, a bob that just reaches your ear lobe, or longer layers ending at your jaw are examples of short hairstyles. While short hair is easy to care for and flattering to most face shapes, it may limit your style choices for formal events. However, with a little imagination, some hair products and a few accessories, your short hair will soon be ready for the big dance.

Super Short

Slick back your wispy pixie cut for a bold look for prom. Wash your hair and dry it with a towel. Apply hair gel or hair wax, which has more holding power, to your hair. With your hands, slick it back from your face. For a little added drama, wear a headband encrusted with faux jewels.

You can also spike your super-short layers. Apply hair gel to your hair. Using your fingers, pull the hair into spikes. You can spike only the crown, leaving super-short bangs, or spike it all over. For a festive touch, sprinkle your hair with glitter in a color that compliments your prom dress or color the tips of your hair in a color that goes with your outfit.

Very Short

If your hair is cut in an ear-skimming bob, sweep it back on one side and secure it with a sparkly hair clip or a bow that compliments your dress.

For a curly effect, set your hair with small hot rollers. Pull the rollers out to form ringlets. Pull some curls away from your face and secure with jeweled bobby pins, leaving wisps of hair that frame your face.

Dress up your look by making French braids along the top and sides of your head, and crimp the back. Highlight the braids with small, glittery butterfly clips.

Short

Go with a tousled look if your hair is cut in chin-length layers. When your hair is still wet from the shower, lightly apply hair gel and scrunch your hair to form waves. Dress the waves up with small fabric bows.

For a glamorous look, highlight your hair and straighten it with a flat iron. Hold back your bangs with a simple barrette of gold or silver.

If you like flowers, tuck the sides of your hair behind your ears and place an orchid above your ear on one side. You can choose a real flower or one made of fabric--perhaps even the same material as your dress.

For a more relaxed prom hairstyle, pull your hair back into a twist and secure with decorative bobby pins. Leave the sides down for an intentionally messy look.
