What Are The Dangers Of Getting A Perm

What Are the Dangers of Getting a Perm?

While you might think that a perm is the ideal way to get a head full of lush curls and volume, there are some dangers associated with getting a perm. It's true that perms can give you curlier hair, but in the process, a perm can severely damage your hair as well.

Scalp Damage

Although the permanent solution is applied to the hair, some may inadvertently be applied to your scalp through sloppy application or by accident. This solution is made up of a highly potent ammonium thioglycolate chemical solution, which can be irritating to some users, and cause itching, redness, burning and peeling.

Hair Damage

Because of the strength of the ammonium thioglycolate solution, many find their hair texture changed after using it. Ammonium thioglycolate can dry out the hair, leaving it brittle and more susceptible to breakage. The only way to fix this problem is to grow the hair out and cut off the damaged portion.

Lack of Hair Regrowth

Some perm users realize that their hair is cracked and damaged, and then wait patiently for new hair regrowth to replace the damaged hair. However, some may find that the chemicals have actually inhibited new hair growth.

Texture Change

While a perm seeks to change the texture of your hair by causing it to go from straight to curly, you may find that this texture change is permanent, rather than lasting a few months, as most perms are supposed to. Some users find that they went from straight hair, to permed hair, to permanently frizzy hair after the perm. If you don't mind your hair's texture as it is, choose another, less severe way to curl your hair, such as a curling iron or three barrel waver.

Pain

Some perm users may find that heading to the salon to receive a perm can be a painful procedure. Not only can the ammonium thioglycolate solution burn the scalp during application, but the hair has to be tightly wound in curlers when it's been applied. This can be a painful process, as the curlers must be placed tightly to the scalp, and can cause pulling or tearing of the hair.

Hydrate Dry Skin Easily

say hello to hydration!

Dry skin may cause uncomfortable itching and could be symptomatic of a skin-related medical problem. However, high temperatures, low humidity, bodily dehydration and harsh fabrics or soaps will have a negative effect on your skin's moisture levels. Adjusting your grooming and nutritional intake habits will help ease common dry skin issues.

Instructions

1. Consume at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water per day. Limit the consumption of fluids that have diuretic properties, such as coffee and alcohol.

2. Eat foods that contain anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidant rich foods include tomatoes, nuts, beans and green leafy vegetables. Consider reducing red meat intake in favor of fish.

3. Replace your existing soaps or body wash products in favor of mild alternatives, specifically designed for moisturizing skin. Avoid using harsh soaps that dry the skin.

4. Avoid taking hot showers or baths lasting longer than 15-minutes, and reduce the water temperature you usually use.

5. Apply moisturizing lotion or baby oil immediately after bathing or showering. Baby oil and moisturizing lotion will provide a suitable barrier, designed to retain skin moisture. Reapply the moisturizer several times a day, as needed.

Create An Elegant Ponytail Curl Updo

Create an Elegant Ponytail Curl Updo

Creating elegant hairstyles can be as easy as putting your hair in a ponytail. This updo and other hairstyle variations can be created with just a ponytail and some curlers or a curling iron to add an elegant touch. Decide where to place your ponytail updo--at the nape of the neck, the middle of the head, the top of the head or to the side--and start curling.

Instructions

1. Put mousse or gel in your hair or wait one day after washing hair, to get hair that is easier to work with and less soft and fluffy.

2. Pull your hair back into a ponytail in the desired spot for your updo. The nape of the neck is an elegant choice, but if you have very long hair or a lot of hair you may want to do a high ponytail. Part your hair on the side and then pull back into a ponytail for a more fashionable look in the front.

3. Use a hair band that is the same color as your hair. Secure any lumps or loose strands with bobby pins. If the hair band is not the same color as your hair, take one small section of hair and loop it around the ponytail to cover the band. Secure with a pin.

4. Use curlers or a curling iron to curl small sections of the hair in the ponytail, one section at a time. After curling the section, use your fingers to create a loose loop that hides the ends of the hair and clip it just above the ponytail.

5. Continue to create loose loops and clip them around the entire ponytail. If necessary, clip loops on top of one another until you are finished clipping all of your hair into the updo.

6. Leave the ends of some or all of the loops loose instead of tucking them under if you have very long hair and want to create some variety or have some stray curls in the updo.

7. Hairspray the finished style.

Create An Easy Updo For Long Straight Hair

An updo allows long hair to be styled a different way.

An updo is a type of hairstyle that, through the use of curling, twisting and pinning, is generally designed to keep the hair above the neckline. Updos are generally created for events such as parties and weddings; but for women with long hair, they can also be useful when working out, sleeping or during hot, humid weather. An updo for long hair takes only a few tools and can be completed in a few steps.

Instructions

1. Brush the hair, making sure it is tangle-free, using a sculpting brush. The hair needs to be completely dry. Apply a small amount of styling cream to the hair. Start at the ends and work it thoroughly through the hair.

2. Comb out any tangles using a detangling comb. Brush your hair again.

3. Section the hair to be curled into horizontal 1-inch sections, beginning at the nape of the neck and moving upward, using a regular comb and hair clips.

4. Curl the hair into spiral curls with a curling iron. Start from the lower-hair sections and move horizontally.

5. Create three large barrel curls, going from front to back, on top of the head using the curling iron.

6. Blend the sections together with teasing comb to eliminate section lines. Apply a light mist of hair spray.

7. Tease the two barrel curls directly behind the front barrel curl for lift. Gently unroll the front barrel curl, lay it over the other two barrel curls, and discreetly secure them with bobby pins.

8. Pin spiral-curled hair upward and back with bobby pins. Start in front of the ears, working side to side for balance and symmetry, and move toward the back of head.

9. Arrange pinned hair to hide bobby pins using open-ended hairpins. Use a pick comb to fluff and refine your hair.

10. Secure the updo with hair spray.

Cute Short Haircuts For Girls

When deciding what short haircut will work best for a young girl, you need to consider what she does on a daily basis and how much time you are willing to spend maintaining the hair. Overly layered or choppy hair may not be the easiest type of cut to keep up with on a young girl. A short haircut is a good choice because it is easy to manage and style.

Pixie

The pixie cut is made up of very short layers of hair and works well with most types of hair. However, this cut is especially good for fine hair. Choose this haircut for a simple yet stylish look great for active young girls. Use a small amount of hair gel to create waves in the hair for special occasions. Put small barrettes or bows in the hair as accessories. Regular trims are necessary to keep this haircut neat and tidy.

Bob

The bob haircut is a short hair cut that hits at chin length and works for fine, medium or thick hair, both curly and straight. The style can be worn with or without bangs. The bob can be angled so that it is shorter in the back and longer in the front, or the hair can be cut so that it is all the same length. Use this haircut for easy to manage hair and to frame the face. Dress up this haircut by curling it, straightening it or by using barrettes to pull back the bangs or front of the hair. The bob can also be pulled back with a headband or hair tie for sports or other activities.

Long Bob

A longer bob provides a haircut that is a good option for girls because it requires less maintenance than long hair and does not need as much styling as very short hair. A long bob haircut will fall below the chin but still be well above the collarbone. This style is easy to pull back out of the way with hairbands, hair ties, scarves or barrettes. You will also still have the option to braid the hair or tie it in a ponytail unlike a pixie cut or very short bob. A long bob can be worn with different types of bangs like blunt or side bangs, and it is easy to change the style without cutting much hair.

Take Care Of Kinky Hair

Because kinky hair grows in tiny spring-like corkscrews, oil formed naturally from the scalp often does not make it down the hair shaft, resulting in dry and frizzy hair. This means that kinky hair must be treated carefully and given as much moisture as possible. While kinky hair does require additional care and a commitment to a hair care regimen, it can be cared for, despite its reputation for being difficult to manage and grow.

Instructions

1. Accept your natural hair texture. Whether you wear your hair natural or relaxed, learn and understand your hair's texture and what it needs and requires in order to be healthy and to grow long. By accepting the natural kinky texture of your hair and choosing the right products and styling tools, you can care for your kinky hair so that it is healthy and grows to a desired length.

2. Be gentle with your hair. As kinky hair can be naturally dry, brushing and combing the hair requires a tender touch. Use large combs when combing the hair and removing knots, and large boar bristle brushes when brushing the hair.

Before combing, be sure to apply water and moisturizing products to your hair. However, avoid brushing the hair when damp or wet if possible. If possible, use your hands and fingers to manipulate your curls and remove knots.

3. Moisturize and deep-condition your hair as often as possible. Wash and deep-condition your hair at least once per week. Use shampoos and conditioners whose properties contain as many moisturizing agents as possible. Kinky hair requires that moisture be added to your hair, beginning from the scalp and along the entire hair shaft. Use essential oils (olive oil or jojoba oil or rosemary oil) and light creams to moisturize the scalp and hair. Do this as needed.

4. Protect your hair. Use as few chemicals and heat styling tools as possible. When using them, protect your hair with heat and chemical protectants, and be sure to moisturize it as well. Wear your hair up as often as possible to protect your hair from natural elements such as sun, wind and the air. Wear hairstyles such as buns, braids and two- or three-strand twists to protect the hair.

5. Trim your hair regularly. Get rid of your split ends as necessary, but it is often best to trim the hair every six to eight weeks.

Slumber Party Hairstyles

Rollers can be used to create fun slumber party hairstyles.

Fashion conscious young people will enjoy doing each other's hair as a slumber party activity. There are lots of different hairstyles for kids to try out on each other; some are easier than others, so they are more suitable for younger children to attempt. If you exhaust these styles, you can get the party guests to use their imagination or try out celebrity hairdos.

Curly Styles

Curly and wavy hairstyles are excellent for slumber parties. You need to create the curls with either curling tongs or by using hair rollers or rags. The latter two will take longer, but they're good alternatives for younger girls, who shouldn't be using hot tongs. Once curled, either leave loose or create a stylish updo by pinning the hair up. Use your imagination when creating updos; you could even agreed to give each other silly hairstyles.

Pig Tails

Pig tails are a really simple hairstyle to master, consisting of two pony tails, one on each side of the head. These can either be high or low, according to preference. Pig tails are a slumber party hairstyle for younger kids to give each other, due to the style's simplicity. Use cute hair accessories--such as Alice bands and barrettes--to liven up this classic hairstyle.

Braids

There are many different hairstyles to achieve by braiding, and it is fun to experiment with them at a sleepover. If you want to go for a classic look, try plaiting one long braid or two braids, one on either side. For a more modern look, you can do a French braid along the hairline or braid the hair normally, then clip it into an updo. You can plait in lots of small braids, but this can be time consuming.

Temporary Colors

You can create some crazy hairstyles by using temporary hair dyes in bright colors. Make sure you use the type that comes out after a single wash, such as hair mascara or aerosol hair colorant. These temporary dyes work best in light hair, but they can be used for darker hair as well. You could dye your hair and then spike it up, to create punk hairstyles or dye your bangs to mimic an emo hairdo.

Homemade egg white mousse is fun and easy to make.

2. Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of coconut oil and continue to mix. Add 1 teaspoon of rose, lavender, or hyacinth fragrance and 2 vitamin E capsules; continue to mix until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

3. Let the mixture stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

4. Wash hair and towel dry. Apply the homemade mousse by hand and distribute it evenly through the hair, concentrating on the roots and working out to the ends.

5. Blow dry hair or let air dry. Curl hair using hot rollers or a curling iron.

About Prom Dresses

About Prom Dresses

Aside from a wedding dress, one of the most important gowns a girl will wear in her lifetime is a prom dress.

A hallmark event in a teenagers' life, the prom has gone from a sweetheart's soiree at the local high school gym to an over-the-top bacchanal often hosted at high-end hotels or in school gyms that have been transformed, using elaborate and expensive themes.

And yet, as the years go by, the crucial element of the prom remains the same: the prom dress.

Significance

A prom dress is a status symbol and a way to express individuality.

A one-of-a-kind, custom or designer dress announces that the wearer sits at the top of the social ladder.

Dresses also signal what 'clique' a person is in, whether it be a black, vampire-like gown for the Goth girls or a Jessica McClintock strapless number that is the choice of many girls in the popular posse.

History

While some researchers pinpoint the first prom as early as the late 1800s, they became an official stamp on American culture in the 1950s.

In the Eisenhower Era, prom dresses were designed to accentuate a girl's hourglass figure. Ballerina-length skirts, usually made from tulle or lace, fanned out from nipped waists. Heart-shaped bodices brought the breasts front and center while swan-like necks were usually left bare. As for the dresses themselves, the palettes leaned towards pastels, making the dresses symbols of innocence.

A perfect example of the quintessential prom dress of the 1950s was inspired by Edith Head's strapless gown that Elizabeth Taylor wore in "A Place in the Sun." The boned bodice and white tulle skirt with green satin became the prom inspiration for teenage girls everywhere.

Time Frame

The prom dress of the 1960s were slimmed down a bit. No longer were skirts billowing tulle and satin creations. Dresses were often straight, making the body look slender, with fabrics that ranged from taffeta to satin. Necklines were rarely low and there was a monochromatic look that added to the natural elegance.

The prom dress of this era took a cue from Jackie O and strove toward ladylike silhouettes. Despite the revolution that was boiling under the surface of the youth culture, prom dresses continued touting the feminine.

Identification

The 1970s prom dress deviated slightly from the look of the 60s, with less emphasis on elegance and more on a sense of bohemian casualness. Monochromatic dresses were still popular, and skirts were still often long and billowy to complement the Farrah Fawcett hair.

To get a picture of the 1980s prom dress, one need look no further than the Molly Ringwald film oeuvre.

Scanning the prom scene in "Pretty in Pink" shows that the prom gown of the 80s was sometimes short and sometimes long, but almost always with puffed sleeves, sweetheart necklines and bright colors.

The dresses of the 80s correspond with the cultural mood, as proms took on a larger-than-life status and became the set piece of many teenage movies. In some ways, the ruffled shoulders and necklines of the grandiose dresses reflect this trend.

Types

Today's prom landscape is harder to define. Some fashion soothsayers predict there will be a return to the Elizabeth Taylor hourglass look, others declare that the 1980s over-the-top fun will be reintroduced into the mainstream. Regardless of what the style oracles think, the prom dress of today is a versatile creation, with a few simple guidelines that differentiate the cuts.

"Empire Cut" Think Jane Austen. A dress with an empire cut has a high waistline that generally cinches just below the bust.

"Sheath" This is a dress for the daring and the confident. (Think of the ivory snug number that Angelina Jolie wore when she won an Emmy for "Gia.") This dress is ideal for tall and slim figures, but might not make the best choice for girls who want to dance.

"Tea-Length" A throwback to the 1950s ballerina look, this is a knee-length or shin-length gown for girls wanting to show a little leg on the big night.

"Bouffant Gown" The name says it all. This type of prom dress has a Cinderella flair to it, with a rayon or silk skirt that reaches the floor. The bodice is a snug corset.

Theories/Speculation

What will the Prom Dress of 2009 look like?

"Daring Prints" Not for the wallflowers, (unless the wallflower is looking to make a splash), but one trend is prints. Nothing subtle---cheetah print dresses offset with rhinestones or wild floras paired with glittery eye make-up.

"Short Not Long" Perhaps inspired by the wardrobes found on the Gossip Girls, 2009 is gearing up to be the year of the flirty, fun and sassy dress, one that is comfortable for dancing.

"Celebrity Inspired" While channeling celebrity style is nothing new, the upcoming year promises to be particularly in tune with Hollywood red carpets. The lemon-yellow cocktail dress Reese Witherspoon wore at the 2007 Golden Globes gives the appropriate "girls just want to have fun" vibe.

On the opposite end, the waterfall-length silk satin dress Kate Hudson wears on the poster for "Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is another inspiration for those who appreciate its long, elegant Grecian look.

Condition Damaged Hair

Get healthier looking strands.

Damaged hair is typically caused by using harsh chemicals and heat from appliances. It is nearly impossible to escape the pollutants found outdoors that destroy hair follicles. Most people report their damaged hair as difficult to manage and dull in color. You can restore a healthy shine to your hair by conditioning damaged hair at home.

Instructions

1. Purchase a moisturizing conditioner. You should check the ingredients of the conditioner that you buy. Select a product that has a mixture of silicone, amino acids and panthenol. Hair conditioners with mineral oil enhance protection for each hair strand.

2. Apply the moisturizing conditioner to your hair while it is dry. Spread the conditioner around dry roots to help loosen buildup. You may massage the conditioner into your scalp with your fingertips. Allow the conditioner to remain on your head for five minutes.

3. Wet your hair completely. Use a clarifying shampoo and rinse. A clarifying shampoo will remove buildup in the hair left from styling products and pollution from the environment. After you have rinsed, apply more moisturizing conditioner to your roots.

4. Rinse hair with cold water. Cold water does not close a shaft's cuticle because hair is not alive. However, rinsing with cold water prevents the conditioning agents from being stripped.

5. Dry your hair with a microfiber towel. Microfiber towels reduce the amount of friction placed on the hair.

6. Detangle and comb through hair with a wide-tooth comb. If you notice any knots in your hair, spray the leave-in conditioner on it to remove it. After you have combed through your hair, proceed to style your hair usual.

Complete Braids With Beads

Use beads to add a pop of color to braid ends.

Finish off the ends of braids using beads to set off individual woven strands or add a burst of color all around the bottom of the hair. Beads add visual interest to single accent braids as well as a full head of cornrows. Braid wearers of any age can accent with beads, especially if they're looking to add a tropical island feel to their style. Adding beads to braid ends does not require professional experience.

Instructions

1. Determine how many beads you'd like to slide onto each braid end. Set aside the right number of beads to ensure you have enough.

2. Insert the end of a braid into the eye of the hair beader or large eye beading needle.

3. Slip the first bead onto the bottom of the beader or needle.

4. Slide the bead up the needle and onto the braid end. Depending on the size of the braid, the bead might temporarily get stuck as it slides up the braid end. Use your fingers to work it past this thick spot and onto the shaft of the braid.

5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you achieve the desired number of beads on the braid. Remove the beader or needle. Leave at least one inch of the braid end free beneath the last bead.

6. Loop the hair end around the bottom of the last bead so that the bead becomes the very bottom of the braid. Slide the rest of the beads up the braid about 1/2-inch. Press the looped hair tips against this empty spot between the bottom bead and the rest of the beads. Twist the tiny elastic band around this area until snug.

7. Bring the rest of the beads back down to meet the bottom bead. As they slide down the braid, they should cover up the tips of the hair, even though they might not slide over the elastic band.

Thread Eyebrows

Thread Eyebrows

Originating in India, eyebrow threading can groom and shape your eyebrows as an alternative to plucking or waxing. Eyebrow threading sounds very painful, but is about the same as brow waxing and is not hard on your skin. Threading your eyebrows gives you a better result than waxing or plucking because it pulls an entire row of hair from the follicle to achieve a more straight-looking line of hair.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of regular cotton thread into a 24-inch strand. Tie the ends together to form a circle.

2. Hold the thread around all four fingers and thumb of each hand and open your hands. With your fingers and thumb, form the circle of thread into a rectangle in front of you.

3. Twist the thread about ten times in the middle. With your hands apart in front of you, the string should now look similar to an "X" with the twisted portion in the middle.

4. Push the twisted portion of the thread to the right by extending the fingers and thumb of your left hand while closing the fingers to the thumb of your right hand. Then push the twisted portion to the left by extending the fingers and thumb of your right hand while closing the fingers to the thumb of your left hand. Do this a few times until it becomes easy.

5. Place the thread on the skin with the twisted portion of the thread just to the side of the hair you would like to remove. Gently move the twisted portion along the skin from side to side to capture the hairs, either to the right or to the left whichever way feels more comfortable, by doing what we learned in step 4. Once hairs are captured, simply pull.

6. Start with the unibrow (the hair in-between both eyebrows), move on to the top and then to bottom of the brow forming it to any desired thickness. Be aware, the bottom will be the most sensitive area.

7. Use a toner directly afterward on the skin to close open pores left by the removal of hair from the follicles.

Clean Mohawk Laminate Floors

Use a damp mop to keep your Mohawk laminate flooring clean.

Available from a number of flooring and home improvement centers, Mohawk laminate flooring is durable and maintains its shine for years without the maintenance of traditional wood flooring. However, the flooring needs regular cleaning to keep dust, dirt and grime from building up on its surface. Failure to keep your Mohawk laminate flooring clean can result in the flooring developing a dull finish, becoming sticky and collecting layers of dirt that will be difficult to remove.

Instructions

Regular Cleaning

1. Move any furniture present on the Mohawk laminate flooring to one side of the room, if possible.

2. Vacuum the flooring with a stick vacuum cleaner to remove any loose dust and dirt from the floor's surface.

If you don't have a stick vacuum cleaner, sweep the Mohawk laminate flooring with a soft plastic broom. Pick up any debris with a dust pan and dispose of the debris in a trash can.

3. Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Dip a soft mop in the bucket. Wring out excess water from the mop. The mop should be damp, not dripping with water. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry.

4. Mop the Mohawk laminate flooring with the damp mop. Re-dip the mop, if needed, and continue mopping until the floor is clean.

5. Dry the flooring with a large, nonabrasive cloth or rag.

Removing Stains

6. Fill a small pot with 2 cups of nail polish remover. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry.

7. Dip a small, nonabrasive cloth or rag in the pot. Wring out excess nail polish remover.

8. Scrub the stains gently with the nail-polish-soaked cloth or rag until the stains are gone.

9. Rinse the small, nonabrasive cloth or rag with warm water from a sink. Wring out excess water. Wipe the Mohawk laminate flooring with the damp cloth or rag.

10. Dry the flooring with a clean, nonabrasive cloth or rag.

Celebrity Half Updo Hairstyles

Create an celebrity-inspired updo for your medium-length or long hair.

If you want to style your hair like a celebrity, you'll need insider secrets to create that "red carpet" look. Luckily, a celebrity half updo style is a hairstyle that the novice beautician can reproduce at home. Using the right products and a little practice, you can mold and style your medium or long hair into an updo for a special event or party.

Reverse Updo

If you have long hair, gather the hair above your ears into a high ponytail. Allow the remaining hair around the nape of your neck to fall down towards your shoulders. Secure the hair with a covered elastic band that matches your natural hair color. Make spiral curls in the ponytail with a 2 inch curling iron. Comb the ponytail with your fingers to release the curls. Mist with a medium-hold hairspray to set the look.

Bouffant Half-Updo

Straighten hair from the mid-shaft to the ends with a flat-iron. Take the hair above the ears and create two sections of hair above and below the ears. Gently tease the hair in the crown to build the base for the bouffant shape and create volume. Pull hair around the ears back to create a full, loose crown by twisting and pinning the hair with bobby pins. Spray hair with a light-hold hairspray to complete the style.

Updo with Bangs

Brush your bangs forward with a paddle brush. Pull hair around the ears back towards the crown of your hair. Secure the hair with a jeweled barrette for an evening look. Curl the back of your hair near the nape to add soft and sculpted waves to the style. For women with long hair, toss the hair below your ears over your shoulder for another variation of the half updo. Keep the style in place with a few squirts of medium-hold hairspray.

Long Girl Hairstyles For Anime Characters

Anime girls have very distinct hairstyles.

The girls featured in the Japanese cartooons known as anime typically have hair that is fun to draw because it allows freedom of expression and the ability to create wacky hairstyles that would never work in real life. The character's hair usually changes styles depending on the role of the character. The heroine of the story will often have a simple style, while the bad girl may have a wackier style or straight hair.

Pigtails

Pigtails are always a good choice for anime characters seekin a youthful look. Pigtails give the character a sweet and charming vibe. Shojo manga (i.e., comics targeted at young girls and heavy on romance) and anime frequently use the pigtail style, although young characters in other animes may also have pigtails. Make the pigtails large and overly-dramatic to fit the true anime style.

Ridiculously Long

Another popular hairstyle for anime girls is ridiculously long hair. This hair typically reaches the waist, knees, floor or even longer. Typically, this style is reserved for mythical characters or for those with magical powers. The long hair signifies mystery and knowledge. Use sweeping motions to give the impression that the hair is swirling in mystical wind.

Bouncy Curls

Bouncy curls are another popular choice for shojo characters. The main character rarely has this hairstyle, but minor characters and supporting characters often do. Big, unnatural curls almost the size of the character's head gives a cartoonish effect to the character. Corkscrew curls will produce a similar effect.

Breezy

One characteristic of almost every anime girl's hair is that it constantly looks blown about by non-existent wind. Stray wisps always blow around the character's head, especially during dramatic scenes. This is easily accomplished by drawing strands of hair blowing away from the face or across the face.

Serious Straight

Serious anime female characters or realistic animes often feature girls with straight hair. Straight hair has little movement to it and it looks similar to realistically straight hair. Sometimes characters with straight hair have bangs or layers as well.

Bang Heavy

Almost all anime girls have large and chunky bangs. This is a hallmark of the anime style. Bangs can look semi-realistic, if slightly larger than normal, or incredibly outrageous. There is really no limit to how bangs can look in anime. However, you can never go wrong with chunky or wispy bangs. The bangs almost always spring from the crown of the head at least several inches before falling to the side or over the face.

What Is The Effect Of Hair Texturizer

A texturizer is a chemical relaxer for curly hair

A texturizer is a chemical hair straightening product that loosens the hair's curl without making it completely straight. Because it is a chemical hair straightener, it has many of the effects of a traditional hair relaxer.

Usage

People of African descent or those with a kinky or curly hair texture apply hair texturizer to loosen their hair's curl. Because it partially straighten's the hair, many people believe that texturizer improves their hair's manageability and makes it easier to style. People may choose a texturizer over a traditional straightening relaxer to retain some of their hair's natural curl.

Texture Changes

Because texturizer is a chemical relaxer, it permanently changes the texture of the hair that it is applied to. The curl pattern in the texturized hair will remain looser than the curl pattern in your natural hair that grows in. There is no way to reverse the process once texturizer is applied. You must cut off the texturized portion of the hair to return hair to its natural state.

Breakage

Texturizers contain sodium hydroxide or guanidine hydroxide, which straighten hair by entering the inner layer of the hair shaft. While this loosens the curly texture, it also decreases elasticity. This weakens hair and leaves it prone to breakage.

Other Potential Side Effects

In addition to breakage, texturizer users may experience hair dryness. Some users also suffer from scalp burns during application. Chemical relaxers have also been linked to alopecia (hair loss).

Misconceptions

Many people will choose to apply a texturizer over a traditional relaxer over concerns about the potentially harmful nature of the chemicals used in a traditional relaxer. In actuality, a texturizer uses many of the same chemicals as a chemical relaxer. The primary difference between a texturizer and a traditional chemical relaxer is that you leave a texturizer in for less time than a traditional relaxer.

Bleach Hair That Is Dyed Black

Black hair can be bleached blond with the proper products.

Many people use black hair dye to temporarily darken the color of their natural hair and end up deciding the color is not what they had in mind. Although most hair dyes begin to fade from the hair within several weeks, you may choose to bleach hair that is dyed black if you want to dye your hair a lighter color immediately. Since overlapping bleach on previously-dyed hair may cause hair loss and damage, oxidative hair color remover, which removes artificial pigments, must also be used during the bleaching process.

Instructions

1. Protect your hands and clothing with plastic gloves and a cape.

2. Apply oxidative hair color remover to the hair, following the directions included on the box. Oxidative hair color removes dyed pigments from hair without affecting natural pigments.

3. Pour enough hair bleach powder to cover your whole head into a plastic, disposable bowl. Gradually pour in the liquid hair peroxide, stirring the lumps out with a plastic spoon until you get a thick consistency that is similar to gravy.

4. Comb the hair thoroughly with a wide-tooth comb to remove any knots or tangles.

5. Divide your hair into about eight to 10 equal sections depending on length and thickness, then secure each section with a plastic hair clip. Leave one section nearest the nape of the neck free. You will be applying the bleach to the back of the head where the dye is typically darkest first.

6. Apply the bleach mixture to the section of hair with a hair dyeing brush, working quickly to evenly and thoroughly distribute the product.

7. Repeat step 6 until the bleach mixture has been applied to each section of hair.

8. Cover your hair completely with a plastic cap for about 10 to 30 minutes. Bleach processing times vary depending on your desired results, according to the Style Hair Magazine website.

9. Rinse the bleach from your hair using a shampoo for color-treated hair.

10. Dry your hair with a blow dryer to determine if you have achieved your desired result because wet hair can appear to be darker than it actually is. Decide then, whether or not to add additional hair coloring to achieve another color, suggests the Beauty Den website.

Facts On Rat Rods

Facts on Rat Rods

Rat rods are a style of hot rod popular in many areas. Rat rods are somewhat similar to "traditional" hot rods in that they imitate classic hot rods, but rat rods aren't as polished and don't necessarily seek to completely duplicate the hot rods that they are built to imitate. Instead, rat rods are their own brand of hot rod.

History

Rat rods are meant to imitate the hot rods popular during the first half of the 20th century, particularly the 1940s through the 1960s.

Geography

Rat rods can be found in many different places, but are most popular and prevalent in the United States.

Size

Rat rods differ considerably in size and shape but tend to be quite a bit larger than modern hot rods and supercars.

Function

Unlike many other types of hot rods, rat rods are built to be driven as hot rods, not to simply appear pretty on the exterior.

Warning

Although it may be fun to build and race rat rods, it's important to obey all local laws, rules, and regulations to avoid legal trouble and possible injury.

Time Frame

Rat rods became popular beginning in the late 20th century, and are becoming increasingly popular.

Transition From A Curly Perm To A Relaxer

Change from a curly perm to a relaxer.

A curly perm changes relatively straight hair to a permanently curly texture, while a relaxer makes curly hair permanently straight. Both styles require chemicals to break the disulfide bonds in the hair strands, so they can become either straight or curly. This process weakens the hair severely, and for this reason, many stylists do not recommend applying a curly perm to relaxed hair. The best way to transition from a curly perm to a relaxer is to grow the perm out.

Instructions

1. Begin the process of growing the curly perm out. Focus on keeping your hair as healthy as possible by shampooing and conditioning once a week, applying a hot oil treatment once a month and drinking as much water as is ideal for you. During this time of growth, consider wearing protective hair styles, such as braids, wigs and extensions, to minimize breakage.

2. Wait for the new growth under the permed hair to reach a length that you are comfortable with. Hair grows at a rate of 0.5 inch per month. Use this to estimate how long it will take to grow your hair to your desired length. For instance, it will take four months for new growth to reach 2 inches.

3. Prepare for a relaxer. Do not wash your hair the day before your appointment for a relaxer. A clean scalp is more likely to burn from the chemicals. For the same reason, stop scratching your scalp from the day before your appointment.

4. Visit a professional hair stylist for a haircut and a relaxer application. In "Don't Go Shopping For Hair Care Products Without Me: Over 4,000 Products Reviewed, Plus the Latest Hair-Care Information," author Paula Begoun recommends professional attention over at-home relaxer applications. This is because the process requires many details that are even challenging for professional stylists. For instance, combing the hair in the wrong direction or leaving the relaxer on too long could lead to hair loss.

Choose A Home Perm

Choose a Home Perm

Having a perm done at a salon can be very expensive. Besides paying for the actual perm kit you're also paying for the beautician's time and service. You can get a good quality perm by doing it at home. All you need is a good friend and a home perm kit. Follow these steps to choose a home perm kit that gives you salon results.

Instructions

1. Decide what style perm you are looking for. There are curly, body wave and spiral perms. Research the different styles and choose one that you think will look the best on you.

2. Choose the rod size you desire. The color of the rod determines the size of the perm. The colors are universal throughout all perm kits with purple being the loosest curls and grey being the tightest.

3. Pick the brand of home perm you desire. Ogilvie is a top brand of home perms that consistently gets good results. L'Oreal is also a good brand for hair that is resistant to a perm.

4. Purchase a home perm kit for color treated hair if your hair isn't it's natural color. Perm kits are very harsh on your hair and can strip out the color. The chemicals in the home perm kits for color treated hair aren't as harsh.

5. Spend a reasonable amount of money on your home perm kit. You don't need to buy the most expensive kit but you also don't want to choose the cheapest kit either. You get what you pay for.

8th Grade Promotion Party Ideas

Include your son's eighth grade school picture in the party "yearbook."

Your middle schooler has reached the end of eighth grade -- a milestone that should definitely be celebrated. Keeping your child's personality, and upcoming entrance into high school, in mind when planning a graduation celebration will ensure that the event is age appropriate, and helps your teen and his guests fondly remember their middle school years.

Decorations

Choose school-themed decorations that are not too childish, like large paper cutouts of graduation hats or posters shaped like books with the words "congratulations, (guest of honor)" written on them. Select the colors of your child's middle school as decoration inspiration, such as green and gold balloons or silver and burgundy streamers. Hang posters that display the middle school mascot on the walls, and adorn the table with confetti in the shape of your child's eighth grade graduation year.

Activities

Ask your daughter about activities she'd like to include at her graduation party to ensure that the celebration isn't "kiddy," but still enjoyable. For instance, a karaoke contest with songs from your teen's favorite band, as well as a contest to see which party guest can sing all the words to their former middle school's fighting song, are ideal. Your teen may prefer an outing for her eighth grade promotion celebration, inviting her guests to the movies or an ice cream restaurant afterwards, or to the closest outdoor water park for a summer-themed graduation party.

Food

Present food to your former eighth grader and his friends that is upbeat and kid-friendly, but with a hint of sophistication to denote the milestone of graduating to a new phase of life. For instance, serve mini pizzas with aged cheeses like Parmesan or Gorgonzola, or create a pizza bar, including ingredients other than cheese and sauce, like sun-dried tomatoes, crimini and portabello mushrooms and red and yellow bell peppers. Or, serve treats that remind the guests of their childhood to create a pleasant memory before they transition into high school. For instance, an ice cream sundae bar or cookie decorating station is an interactive activity that will result in some tasty combinations.

Favors

Send each guest home from the eighth grade graduation event with a goodie bag filled with cookies in the shape of their graduation year or sunglasses shaped like the year they finished eighth grade. Or, rent a photo booth for the event and give the guests props like wooden or cardboard images of their graduation year and neon graduation caps to pose with in the booth. Set up a craft station with picture frames, stickers in the school colors and spray glitter so the kids can house their photos in the frames and take them home as favors.

Black Hairstyles With Updos & Ponytails

Combination braided and free-styled hair can be striking and elegant.

Updos and ponytails are fun and easy, and there is a style for almost any occasion. Black women's hair can be dressed in these styles, either with their own natural hair, straightened hair or with hair extensions. Various accessories -- such as fabric-covered rubber bands, hair additions that attach with a comb, and bows and clips -- can aid in achieving the updo and ponytail combination you are looking for.

Natural

The texture of untreated, natural black hair varies from thick and coarse to fine. Black hairstyles with updos and ponytails for natural black hair often involve braids, but they are not mandatory. If your hair is short, for an updo, you can brush up the sides, using bobby pins or small combs to hold them in place and arrange the rest of your hair in curls. Longer or extended hair can be braided, if that is your preference, then rolled up into a French twist with a portion pulled into a ponytail. Wrap the ponytail in strands of hair or a covered band for an elegant look. Natural black hair is versatile and with creams, gels and effort, can be coaxed into almost any style.

Casual

A smooth bun is an easy updo and ponytail combination.

A casual ponytail or updo is perfect for a quick hairstyle to take you through your day. Catch your hair up into a rubber band or other device, and let the rest of your hair hang free. A ponytail gathered at the base of your neck and secured with a decorated barrette can make getting out the door a quick and simple affair. For an updo, put the ponytail on top of your head and then wrap your hair into a quick bun. Let a few tendrils hang free to frame your face for the artfully messy look.

Playful

When you think of your hair as an accessory, similar to your earrings or purses, you can have a lot of fun with it. Weave in or pin on brilliantly colored hairpieces, gather your hair into a ponytail, and let the colors intertwine with your own hair color. Or you can create bangs, either with your own hair or a hairpiece, and then use glitter hair gel to make your ponytail spiky and colorful.

Elegant

Place your ponytail off-center.

An updo can be one of the most elegant and classy women's hairstyles for formal occasions. Black women can braid the sides of their hair into a pattern, catch the rest up into ponytail with hair or fabric wrapped around the base. The ponytail itself can either be styled with a cascade of curls, or hang down smooth and straight. Or attach a little bump piece to your hair just back from the hairline, pull all your hair back smoothly, even over the bump, and catch it into a ponytail at the back of your head. One long, smooth curl in the hair of the ponytail gives it an elegant sweep.

Short Hairstyles For Teens

Teenage years are the time for experimentation in fashion and personal style. While there is extreme pressure to blend in with others, it is also important to stand out as a strong, unique personality. With the many haircut options available to young people today, short hair is a stylish, popular means of making a bold fashion statement among teens. Does this Spark an idea?

Function

Teens are at the perfect age to take risks with their looks. In a few years, they will enter the adult world and may not be able to get away with the more outlandish or unconventional styles favored by the young and young at heart. Adults tend to wear hair short for easy maintenance, resulting in the stereotype of so-called "soccer mom" haircuts rather than for any sort of attention-grabbing style. Teens with short hair, on the other hand, wear it to try something new, to be elegant and sophisticated, and to be as wild as possible.

Types

Short hair for teen girls and boys is not too radically different. Many of the same styles are worn by both genders, simply tweaked to suit the individual's features and personal style. Much of this comes from the popularity of certain hairstyles among teen and music subcultures, such as hair derived from punk, emo, skater and gothic trends. In recent years, some short hairstyles have also derived from a resurgence of retro style. Some of the most popular short hairstyles among teenagers are the bob, the pixie, the shag, the mohawk, the bowl cut, the wedge, the tapper and the skater cut.

Identification

Most short hairstyles fall under the categories of pixie, bob and shag. The pixie cut is a fine, close crop that flatters girls with soft facial features. Pixie hairstyles are usually slightly shaggy, while bowl cuts are the more dramatic, blunt-shaped version that require a bit more maintenance to keep looking chic. The bob is a versatile short cut that is not as daringly short as the pixie but can vary in length. Bobs are often worn to frame the face. Shag and razor cuts, perhaps the most popular among teens, can be any length and consist of uneven layers that are easily restyled for different looks.

Features

All styles of short hair can be tweaked to incorporate bangs, asymmetry and plenty of bold color. Boys often opt for long sideburns or a cut that blends into a selected facial hairstyle. Girls may add asymmetrical or blunt bangs, sweeping asymmetrical length lines and flipped or curled ends. Both genders enjoy spiked hair, such as that shown in the popular mohawk with bald sides, or the "fauxhawk" with short sides and enough length on top to spike. Shags and other short, layered cuts can also be spiked with the addition of enough hair product. Cuts that have been razored usually work best for spiking and creating twisted peaks.

Considerations

For those not daring enough or with features that do not lend themselves well to short hair, the look of short hair can also be mimicked by some medium hairstyles. Shags are easy to adapt to medium-length hair, and can create a very soft frame for the face. Dramatic bangs on longer hair are another way to experiment with short hair without actually having short hair. Many teen celebrities opt for blunt or asymmetrical razored bangs to add interest to their long, styled hair.

Do Your Hair Like Cinderella For Halloween

Girls young and old dream of being a princess for Halloween, and one of the most popular princesses to go as is Cinderella. In addition to the perfect gown, a hairstyle fit for a princess is on the shortlist of costume essentials. Cinderella's trademark updo may seem like an intimidating hairstyle to execute, but with the right tools you can have a Cinderella hairstyle befitting of one of the most famous fairy tale princesses.

Instructions

1. Brush the hair thoroughly and pull it into a tight ponytail that sits high on the back of the head. If the hair is short in places, use bobby pins to affix flyaway hair to the side of the head.

2. Wrap the hair into a roll-up bun by placing a ribbon at the bottom of a ponytail and rolling it upwards into the hair. Once the rolled bun reaches the top of the scalp, use a hair tie to secure it. Then tie the ends of the ribbon loosely at the bottom of the hair, making sure not to tangle any hairs in the ribbon.

3. Use hairspray to "set" the style. For a crisp look (like the kind portrayed in the Disney movie) you will want to use a liberal amount. Although hair gel can be substituted, hairspray will provide the strongest hold.

4. Wrap a long ribbon around the crown of the head and tie it at the top of the neck. This will complete the Cinderella look.

Textured Hair Styles

Textured hair can be fun and messy.

Textured hairstyles give flat, dull hair the lift, volume and uniqueness it needs. This is an easy hairstyle to achieve and suits most people's face shapes well. Texturing is a common method used for thinning out thick hair or taming voluminous, disorderly hair types. Whether it is a long, layered look you go for or a short, textured bob these hairstyles are stylish and can be achieved in a myriad of ways.

Get More Texture

Textured hair can be attained with curls, waves, color and layers. Chemicals are used to set in permanent waves and curls; with today's advancements in hair care, some permanents are not so permanent, lasting only six weeks. Color, like vibrant reds or bold highlights, can also give hair texture, lending depth to any hairstyle. The most common way to achieve texture is having it cut it in. Hairstylists use the shear point technique, razoring or thinning. These styles give hair disheveled, uneven layering throughout the hair. Unlike normal layers, there is no set level or length of hair throughout the style. For a simple and temporary look, curlers or product can be used during normal styling.

Day to Day Care

Texturized hair tends to lead to product build-up, so it is important to have a deep cleansing shampoo on hand to use once or twice a week. Texturizing styling product should be used sparingly, as overuse can leave hair heavy and flat. To use, rub into sections separating the hair with its natural texture. The process of rubbing the hair into sections gives it texture. It is important to be extra cautious when styling textured hair. Too much heat styling can lead to severe damage, especially if hair is chemically treated. Special shampoos should be used to keep color long-lasting and looking vibrant and the same goes for processed curls. A diffuser can be used for wavy or curly hair, as this disperses the hot hair coming from your blow-dryer, allowing your curls to take on a natural shape.

Long-Term Management

If you have used chemicals in your cut to achieve your perfect texturized look, it is important to stick with a stylist that will understand keep this look going. The optimal situation is to stay with the same person who gave you the look in the first place. Remember, if your stylist is using thinning or razoring shears, it is important to scale back the thinning after the initial cut; razoring and thinning should only be done about every three salon visits. If thinning is overdone you risk taking out too much hair. Similarly, if chemical processing is used, it should be used in moderation. Hair will become relaxed and the urge to reprocess might be strong, but too much processing will leave any hair type dry, brittle and damaged. This is why it is also important to regularly trim hair to rid it of split ends.

What Is The Proper Way To Wear A Hair Net

Many different things, from working in the food industry to wearing a wig, will require wearing a hair net. The proper way is always the same and provides the most comfort for whomever is wearing the hair net. There are slightly different methods to use, depending on whether your hair is short or long, and it may take a little practice to get it right.

Short Hair

If you have short hair, use a pomade or styling cream on hair. Work it through from root to tip to create a slick hair surface. Use a comb to pull all hair back and secure down any stray ends with a bobby pin. These can be place haphazardly throughout the hair as they will be covered with the hair net. If your hair has a tendency to fall out of place, use hairspray after pinning your hair down. Open the hair net and place it on your head, starting at the forehead, carefully stretching it back and tucking it on the sides of your head and at the nape of the neck. Make sure there are no stray hairs sticking out and avoid stretching the hair net too wide, which can make it slip off your head.

Long Hair

Pull long hair back into into a tight ponytail at the nape of the neck or at the center of the back of your head. Both work, so do whichever is most comfortable. Use styling cream or gel to slick your hair back to be sure every hair is in place. Secure the ponytail with a hair elastic and work additional product through the "tail" of the ponytail. Twist the ponytail and coil it around the base of the ponytail and secure it with bobby pins. Use a fine-tooth comb to smooth any stray hairs, especially at the nape of the neck. Stretch the hair net, starting at the front of the head and bring it over the sides of the head, taking in the nape of the neck last.

Get the Hair Net Perfect

The idea of wearing a hair net is to keep hair from leaving the head. For this reason, be sure you bring the hair net all the way over the hairline, whether it's around the face or back at the neck. You don't want a stray hair to escape, and if it does, it's best if it falls inside the hair net.

Make A Wave Nouveau Straight

Straighten wavy, chemically treated hair with a flatiron on a low setting.

Straightening your hair can be a challenge, especially when you're working with a curly or wavy texture. A wave nouveau is a chemical treatment that leaves soft waves in your hair, giving straight hair texture or loosening tight curls. While it is possible to straighten hair that has been given a wave nouveau with heat styling tools, the effect is temporary and your hair will return to its wavy state the next time you wash it. The key to straightening chemically treated hair is to avoid damaging your hair.

Instructions

1. Use a flatiron that has multiple temperature settings rather than a single setting or "low" and "high" settings. Choose an iron with ceramic plates and set the temperature to less than 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Apply heat-protectant spray to your dry hair, according to the directions on the product. This spray will coat your hair and reduce heat damage.

3. Grab a 1-inch to 2-inch section of your hair. Clamp the flatiron tightly around the section, starting at the roots.

4. Slide the flatiron down the section of your hair toward the ends. Lighten your grip as you reach the ends. Clamping the ends too tightly can cause damage.

5. Repeat the process until you've flat-ironed all your hair. Work quickly, applying heat for no more than four seconds per section.

6. Style your hair using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb.

Dress Up Like A Gangster

They didn't call it the Roaring 20's for nothing. Gangsters knew dress, but more importantly, they knew have fun. Whether you need a Halloween costume or you're throwing your very own 1920's themed party, a gangster costume is perfect for any man or woman who wants to have a good time and look dangerous while doing it.

Instructions

1. Don a pinstriped suit. Pick a suit that is black or dark gray with white or light gray stripes. Make sure it fits impeccably, as looking good is vital to a real gangster. Dress in a suit with a tight pencil skirt, instead of pants, if you're a woman.

2. Wear a button-down dress shirt under your suit. Choose a brightly colored silk or cotton shirt, in black or purple. Wear a solid-colored tie made of a high sheen silk or cotton, for a cool, gangster touch. Women can wear a flapper's dress with lots of bangles.

3. Slick your hair back, if you're a man, with gel or pomade to give it a slick shine. Women should pin their hair pack, or wear it down with sexy finger waves. Stylish headbands and skullcaps, both often beaded, were also popular with women during the 1920's. Keep makeup simple and sultry, with bright red lipstick and dark eyeliner.

4. Wear a white or black fedora that matches your suit. Either of these hats are acceptable, but make sure they're made of felt, if you want to be taken seriously as a gangster.

5. Carry a toy gun. Pistols or a Tommy gun will work; genuine 1920's gangsters carried both. Carry your handgun in a shoulder holster. If you're a woman, buy a garter instead of a holster to hold your pistol.

6. Wear patent black leather wingtips or oxfords if you're a man, and black pumps if you're a woman. Women should also pull on a pair of fishnet or seamed silk stockings for an authentic gangster's moll look.

7. Complete your look with a silk handkerchief in your breast pocket and a gold watch. A pocket watch with a chain is the most authentic choice. Women should wear big diamond jewelry. Costume watches and jewelry will work just fine.

8. 1920's gangsters transported alcohol during the Prohibition. Carry a flask to complete your look.

Cool & Easy Hair Styles For Girls

Every girl wants a cool hairstyle that's quick and easy to pull off. Achieving and nice look that's fast and simple isn't always easy for some girls. Don't settle for boring and complicated styles that will leave you looking generic. You can create looks that are effortless yet chic. With a few tips and tricks, you will have the hottest tresses around.

High-Volume Ponytail

This look couldn't be easier. Wash and blow dry your hair, and make sure to add a heat protectant before blow drying. When blow drying at first only use your hands to flip your hair around to get it at least 50 percent dry. Next, use a paddle brush and volumizing spray to finish drying. When completely dry, the hair will be straight but also have volume. Part the hair to one side and gather it in a high ponytail. Wrap a one-inch section of hair around the elastic to hide it. Finish this look with hairspray.

Textured Bedhead Style

Rolling out of bed never looked so chic. Comb unwashed hair and apply a smoothing leave-in conditioner to the hair. Comb the leave-in conditioner through, and then wet the ends of the hair with a spray bottle, so they are slightly damp. Do not soak the hair, as you will make the style stringy. Take a texturizing gel or spray and apply it to the hair. Next, scrunch your ends to create a wave in the hair. Finish the look with shine spray.

Side Part with Braid

This look is easy, and can be done with minutes to spare in a hurry. Take clean hair that is straight or curly and apply a shine serum to the hair. Fine hair types should work the serum through with a comb. Comb the serum through with your fingers if your hair is curly. Part your hair to one side and make a braid along your part. The braid should not go further than your ear. Secure the braid with a hair clip. Finish the style with hairspray to hold the braid.

One Side Low Bun

This look is simple, and it will work on curly or straight hair. Girls with short hair will find this style difficult to manage. Comb the hair and make a side part. Gather the hair and twist once to either your left or right side. Secure your hair with an elastic, and use bobby pins to secure your bun into place. Spray a shine spray on the hair to enhance shine and combat frizz. Finish the style with hairspray and a headband.

Why Can'T You Wash A Perm

Caring for a perm is different from caring for untreated hair.

Perms are a hair style that uses chemicals to break the natural bonds of the hair allowing it to be shaped as desired. This allows people with naturally straight hair to achieve long-lasting curls. The chemicals cause the protein strains to break, swelling and softening the hair. The hair is then wrapped in curlers or around perming rods to create the curls. The main issue with perms is that they cannot be washed with shampoo or conditioner straight afterward.

Reasons

The chemicals used in perming break up protein strains in your hair so it can be reshaped. It takes a while for these protein strains to reform, and washing with shampoo and conditioners will break down the chemicals, causing the hair to revert back to the previous style.

Time Frame

The longer the hair is left the better. Stylists recommend between 24 and 48 hours between having the perm completed and washing properly with shampoo and conditioner. This allows the hair enough time to rebond the protein stands to keep the hair curly.

Shampoo Types

It is best to wash a perm with shampoos and conditioners suitable for permed or treated hair. These shampoos use lighter chemicals that will not damage the perm.

Water

The perm can get wet shortly after it is completed, but it cannot be washed. Water is in fact essential for a perm as it reactivates the curls. The perm reconstructs the hair from straight to curly. The water will make the hair go back to its natural form, which after a perm is curly.

Care For Oster Clippers

Caring for your Oster clippers will help keep them working like new.

Oster professional products and Oster clippers are made for barbers, hair stylists and home haircutters. Oster clippers can be quite expensive, so knowing properly care for them will help you maintain the clippers for as long as possible. Caring for Oster clippers can be done with just a few items and will go a long way in keeping your clippers working like new.

Instructions

1. Brush and wash guide combs after each use. To keep guide combs clean, remove them, brush hair out with your clipper brush and then clean the guide combs with hot, soapy water. The Oster website warns users not to submerge the actual clippers in water because it is dangerous and can damage your clippers.

2. Lubricate your Oster clippers with clipper oil or lubricant on a regular basis, depending on how often you use them. If you use them daily, a weekly lubrication will do; for clippers that are used less often, a monthly lubrication will work. The Oster website suggests spraying a small amount of oil over all the working parts of the clipper.

3. Remove the cutting casing and clean out debris. Hair can get caught under the casing and build up after every few haircuts. Remove the casing with a screwdriver and then wipe out the debris with a soft cloth. Replace the casing and screw it back in place with the screwdriver.

Informal Wedding Hairstyles

Informal hairstyles can look beautiful for a casual wedding.

Informal wedding hairstyles can seem difficult to come up with, especially when you want your look to be presentable without going over the top. Some informal wedding hairstyles look best on hair with different textures and lengths, so be sure to try our your hairstyle before committing to it by taking photos after a styling by a professional hairdresser before your big day.

Ponytails

Ponytails can look glamorous and relaxed without making you look like you just got back from a sporting event. A trick to making a ponytail look right for your wedding day is to create volume in the front with bobby pins, a curling iron and a little bit of teasing. Long hair looks best in ponytails, so grow out your hair or have a professional give you extensions. Curly hair looks pretty in a low ponytail while straight hair looks very mod and fashionable in a tall ponytail.

Half-up

A half-up hairdo is romantic when curls and wisps are strategically placed. Keep the part that's up full and voluminous with some hairspray and mousse. The tiara you plan to use with your headpiece should be tried out so you see the way the hairstyle will look on your big day. Some brides clasp the veil into the place where their hair is tied up, while others place their tiara close to their forehead. You may also intersperse some white flowers or beads throughout your hair to create a wedding hairdo.

Messy Up-Do

An up-do is often used by brides and it can look informal by creating a purposefully messy look. Some up-dos, such as chignons and French twists, can look very formal when styled with a lot of precision. Instead, create a tousled, just got out of bed and threw my hair into this beautiful up-do look. Pommade is a helpful styling goo that creates texture and minimizes frizziness. You can create a chignon or French twist and let a few long pieces of hair strategically hang out.

Down

A wedding hairstyle can be down without falling flat. Be sure rain isn't in the forecast on your wedding day, as humidity can wreak havoc on hair that's easily turned into a frizzy mess with moisture in the air. Hairstyles that are down require grooming to show off your natural beauty. Have your hair professionally trimmed and styled and consider adding some vibrant color on your hair, being sure to try it out in advance to avoid coloring catastrophes.

Halloween Spooky Hairstyles

Create spooky wild witch hair with a wig or hair glue.

Halloween is a day when anyone can dress up as their favorite character, person or a movie star and go trick-or-treating. To dress up and look spooky, it is not just the outfit that must be complete. The makeup and hairstyle must also be spooky to complete the overall Halloween costume. Pick a hairstyle that suits the costume you are wearing for Halloween.

Straight Up With Spiders

If you have longer hair, you can create a mohawk that stands up straight in the air and use plastic spiders to make it spooky. To make the mohawk stand straight up in the air, put hair glue into the air and slide your hair upward with your hands. Lie down on the ground and have someone blow dry your large Mohawk, as it lies flat on the floor above your head. Once the hair glue has dried in your hair, your Mohawk will stand straight up. Add plastic spiders and some fake spiderwebs on the large mohawk.

Medusa's Snakes

Many people are afraid of snakes, so Medusa's signature hairstyle is ideal for Halloween. Known from Greek mythology, Medusa's hair consists of snakes that are intertwining amongst one another. To create the Medusa hairstyle, purchase some rubber snakes that you can use for the look. Curl your hair if it is long, so you can use the curls to hold the rubber snakes in your hair. Pin your hair down tightly to keep the snakes visible and in place. You can even have some snakes hang loosely, so they move when you walk. It will make the snakes look alive.

Bride of Frankenstein

The Bride of Frankenstein is known for her horror-inspired hairstyle. To create this horrific hairstyle, apply hairspray to your hair and crimp the hair using a crimping iron. All of the hair should be crimped. When done, take one small section at a time and start teasing it lightly with a comb. Then, use lots of hairspray to pull the teased hair back into a cone that points backward at a slight upward angle. To finish, use white hair paint to create those signature white hair streaks.

Traditional Horror Characters

The original horror icons, such as Dracula and Frankenstein, are often seen on the streets during Halloween. Both of these horror characters have smooth and structured hair, both of which can be done with a shiny hair gel and a comb. While Frankenstein's hair is high and shiny, the original Dracula's hairstyle is shiny and gelled hair, but is flattened down on his scalp. Both of these hairstyles are horrific because of the costume they are used with, but when everything comes together, the excess of shiny hair gel makes them spooky. If you are looking for a modern horror icon, consider creating a washed-out lime green hairstyle to portray the Joker in the "Batman" films.

Side Ponytail Halfup Dos

You can apply your makeup while you hair is in rollers.

For the prom or other special occasions, the way you style your hair can play an important role in your overall look. Many people choose between the elegant updo and wearing their hair down. For a twist on these classics, wear your hair in a half-updo. Half-updos look soft and casual, but keep your hair away from your face like an updo. For an added twist to this look, style your half-updo to the side for a playful design.

Instructions

1. Start with dry hair. If your hair does not get greasy easily, you should not wash your hair the day you do this hairstyle. Slightly dirty hair will hold the style better. Heat a set of large rollers and roll them into your hair following their directions. If you have short bangs, do not put them in the rollers. Long, side swept bangs should be rolled.

2. Allow the rollers to completely cool and carefully remove them from your hair. Use your fingers to shake out the curls so you have voluminous waves throughout your hair.

3. Divide your hair into two sections: top and bottom. A good cut off point is the top of the ear, but you can adjust the amounts based on the shape of your face and the thickness of your hair. Pull the top hair to one side, and smooth the hair around your head with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Tightly secure the hair on one side with a hair tie. If you have shorter hair or layers, you may need to use bobby pins to hold extra wisps of hair around your head.

4. Curl hair with a curling iron. If you want tighter curls than the ones the rollers gave you, use a curling iron on both parts of your hair. Choose a barrel size based on the size of curl you'd like, smaller barrels make tighter curls and larger barrels make loose curls. If your curls look too stiff, gently run your fingers through your hair to break them up.

5. Spray your hair with hairspray. Avoid getting hairspray on your face by covering it with an old towel. If you are wanting a messier look, don't use too much hairspray.

6. Add hair accessories such as a tiara, ornamental barrette or jewelry studded bobby pins. Secure a tiara with extra bobby pins. Place a barrette over the side pony tail, covering the hair tie. Scatter embellished bobby pins around or concentrate them around the pony tail.

Care For Ficus Benjamina

Care for Ficus Benjamina

Ficus Benjamina - the plant you love to hate! The most common complaint is that the leaves turn yellow and fall off, leaving you with bare branches - not very attractive to look at! Here are a few tips to keep your ficus healthy and thriving.

Instructions

1. Avoid overwatering your ficus! The most common mistake people make is to add more water once the leaves begin to turn yellow. This is the opposite of what you should do. Always feel the surface of the soil with your finger tip. If it feels dry to the touch one inch below the surface, it is time to water. If the soil still feels moist, withhold water for a day or two.

2. Provide ample humidity, especially for new plants. Mist ficus plants at least twice daily.

3. Make a humidity tray by filling the plant saucer with gravel. Runoff water will collect in the saucer, which has two benefits: the roots will not sit in standing water - the most common cause of root rot; and the surplus water will evaporate through the plant, providing additional humidity.

4. Select a site with bright, filtered light. To determine if the light is bright enough for a ficus, you should be able to see your shadow on the wall behind the area you select. Early-morning or late-afternoon sun is fine, but avoid an area that gets direct sun all day.

5. Find a location free from drafts. Place your ficus benjamina away from opening doors or heater vents. Also avoid large windows that change temperature throughout the day.

6. Fertilize your ficus monthly throughout the growing season with half-strength liquid fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer according to label directions. Withhold fertilizer in the winter months.

Types Of Mexican Jewelry

Because it contains the richest silver mines in the world, Mexico provided fertile ground for jewelry making. From the time of the Aztecs and the Mayans, jewelry has played a prominent role in Mexican culture. Today, as this famous Mexican silver continues to spread around the world, it brings with it the influence of Mexican jewelry design. Indeed, Mexican jewelry itself constantly evolves--new styles are recycled with the old and present the customer with a wide range of choices.

Early Aztec Jewelry

For early Aztecs in Mexico, jewelry symbolized more than just fashion. Jewelry makers were in charge of creating masques for all the special religious ceremonies. Because the people didn't read and write, the ceremonies conveyed the religious traditions and information. Therefore, jewelers took their roles as religious instructors seriously and studied the calendar carefully when designing a new mask. They also considered the tastes of the nobles when designing, a concept not much different than modeling after celebrity preference today.

Materials

While the majority of Mexican jewelers construct their wares out of silver, Mexican jewelry has long made use of a range of interesting materials. For instance, tin or gold is sometimes used in place of silver and turquoise and glass beads often create dazzling color. For centuries, jewelers in Mexico have also relied on coral and abalone. They usually set these shells as inlays or place them as cabochons (large un-faceted cuts) in simple bezels. Even leather and dried flowers are employed as accents in Mexican jewelry.

Forms

Both the past and present influence current styles of Mexican jewelry. When visiting jewelry shops in big cities, tourists will most likely find stereotypical Mexican jewelry seen in the movies and on TV. However, simple handmade shapes can sometimes be found right next to complex urban designs. Rings with stone insets, studded bracelets and dangling hoop earrings all remain some of the most popular forms.

Dating Mexican Jewelry

Collectors have coined the term "pre-eagle" to refer to the creative, hand-constructed silver jewelry made in Mexico before 1948. This is because the year 1948 saw the origins of the eagle stamp in Mexico which was subsequently used to mark all silver pieces. Indeed, all pieces made up until 1980 bear the eagle impression. During the period between 1930 to 1950, artist colonies cropped up in Mexico and started a revival of Mexican jewelry design.

Silver Quality

The most notable of these artist colonies was that in Taxco in the state of Guerrero. Although Mexico City and Gaudalajaro also boast silversmith communities, Taxco remains the center of Mexican jewelry today. Indeed, if you are buying a piece of Mexican jewelry, the stamp "Taxco" indicates that it comes from the city and is very high quality. The term "alpaca" on the other hand, tells you that the jewelry does not contain any actual silver. Because Mexico has such a rich supply of silver to mine, many Mexican jewelry pieces actually contain more than the standard 92.5% silver. Stamps of 940, 950, 960, 970 and 980 all mark higher purities.
