Step-by-Step Easy Updos for Hair
Easy updo hairstyles are perfect any time of the year and for all different occasions such as proms and weddings. Whether you have short or long hair or thin or thick, there are quick and simple updos you can follow to style your hair and achieve a fashionable look. There are three updos for hair that are especially popular: the side-swept bun, the voluminous updo and the French twist.
Instructions
Side-Swept Bun
1. Shampoo and condition your hair.
2. Take a 2-inch section from the top front part of your hair and hold it straight up.
3. Spray hairspray in a downwards motion on the roots area of the hair.
4. Backcomb your hair by combing backwards on the first 2 to 3 inches of hair at the roots with deep, slow strokes. The hair should stand up on its own when you let it go. You may need to backcomb a few times to achieve the desired volume.
5. Backcomb the rest of the top of your hair, but lightly at the bottom.
6. Tousle hair slightly and pull back into a low side ponytail at the back of your head.
7. Secure with a hair elastic.
8. Twist the ponytail around into a bun shape and secure with bobby pins, placing a few pins randomly around the circle of the bun to ensure it stays in place.
9. Spray hair lightly with hairspray to set the style.
Voluminous Updo
10. Brush hair through to prepare for styling. This hairstyle works best on slightly dirty hair, so try to wash hair the day or even night before styling.
11. Take a 2-inch section from the top front part of your hair and hold it straight up.
12. Spray hairspray in a downwards motion on the roots area of the hair.
13. Backcomb this section of hair by combing backwards on the first 2 to 3 inches of hair at the roots with deep, slow strokes. The hair should stand up on its own when you let it go. You may need to backcomb a few times to achieve the desired volume.
14. Backcomb the rest of the hair on the top of your head, working in 2-inch sections throughout.
15. Brush hair lightly over the top with a natural bristle brush to smooth slightly and gather it together in the back. Your hair should be completely brushed back, with no part showing.
16. Roll hair up vertically--either to the left or right, whichever side you prefer--starting at the ends and continuing until you have rolled the hair up to your head. The twist of hair should rest against the back of your head.
17.Secure with bobby pins, ensuring the ends of your hair are tucked neatly in underneath the twist. The thicker your hair, the more bobby pins it will take to secure.
18. Spray the finished style with hairspray to set the look and help maintain the height and fullness of your hair.
French Twist
19. Shampoo and condition hair.
20. Blow dry hair with a round brush to add volume to your hair.
21. Curl random pieces of hair with a curling iron, winding them away from the face. Do not worry about it being perfect or about curling every piece of hair, as it will be put up in an updo.
22. Backcomb the hair on the top half of your head. Work in 2-inch sections, combing backwards on the first 2 to 3 inches of hair at the roots on each section with deep, slow strokes. The hair should stand up on its own when you let it go. You may need to backcomb a few times to achieve the desired volume.
23. Tousle hair lightly with fingers.
24. Part hair as desired--any part works for this style--and direct all your hair over to the right at the back of your head.
25. Secure hair to the side with two to three bobby pins, placing them vertically in hair.
26
Twist hair vertically to the left, starting at the ends and continuing until you have rolled the hair up to your head. The twist of hair should rest against the back of your head.
27
Secure with bobby pins, ensuring the ends of your hair are tucked neatly in underneath the twist. The thicker your hair, the more bobby pins it will take to secure.
28
Tousle the top of your hair gently with fingers to slightly dishevel the hair.
29
Spray hair lightly with hairspray to set the style.
