Relax My Hair With A Weave

Relax My Hair With a Weave

You can relax your hair at any time except when you have a weave in. Your hair can be relaxed immediately before adding your weave, but not while the weave is in. This is because the hair weave may be synthetic, which means it's manufactured to look like real hair, but it will wilt once you add chemicals to it. This type of hair is meant to remain dry. Even when it's a weave made of human hair it may not tolerate the chemicals in hair relaxer, since this hair is considered "dead hair." So you must relax your hair first and match the finished results with a weave that is already straightened.

Instructions

1. Put petroleum jelly on your forehead, meeting the hairline, in front of and behind your ears and on the sides and back of your neck.

2. Comb the hair through with a wide-tooth comb, ensuring there are no tangles. Do not scrape your scalp when you are combing through the hair. Start from the ends of the hair working your way up.

3. Part the hair in a cross formation, yielding four sections (two in the front and two in the back). Braid the top two sections and one of the bottom sections or twist these sections and then clip them, to keep them from loosening. Make a horizontal part about 2 inches above the neck's hairline. Put on your gloves.

4. Apply relaxer on the root (not directly on the scalp) working it downwards. Make the next part 2 inches above this one and apply relaxer in the same manner. Do this to every section until you are finished with all sections, then apply relaxer around the hairline and baby hair. Leave for the time stated on the instruction manual (10 to 20 minutes). Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. Apply neutralizing shampoo and work into a lather. The foam will remain pink until the relaxer is fully out of your hair, then it will turn white. This may take several applications.

5. Rinse the shampoo out of your hair and apply conditioner. Leave conditioner in for 20 to 30 minutes, while wearing a shower cap. Remove the cap and rinse the conditioner out. Finally pat your hair dry, apply leave-in conditioner and blow dry. Choose the weave you want to add in. If you are bonding the weave in, ensure your hair is the same texture as the weave. (If the weave is straight, flat-iron your hair before adding it in.) If you are getting the weave braided in, leave your hair at its normal texture.
