Treat My Shaved Head

Maintain your shaved head with the proper tools.

Not all men are naturally bald; therefore, they must shave their head to achieve the look. In addition to shaving your head properly, there are daily and weekly maintenance requirements to keep the scalp in tip-top shape. Knowing what products work for your shaved head will help you if a problem arises, such as sunburn. Keep the scalp looking shiny and new with the proper maintenance schedule.

Instructions

1. Shampoo your scalp every day to maintain the natural oils that the scalp produces. If not, small red bumps may appear. Choose a mild shampoo that is acid-based, which is milder than a traditional shampoo that contains alkaline.

2. Exfoliate the scalp one to two times a week to remove dead skin cells. Like the rest of your body, the scalp will regenerate skin cells that will need to be exfoliated to prevent ingrown hairs. Purchase a mild skin exfoliate that is formulated for the face or scalp.

3. Moisturize your scalp in the shower and out of the shower. Purchase a moisturizing conditioner to rub on the scalp after the shampoo. This will help the scalp retain moisture. Scalps that are not moisturized may become dry and flaky, which leads to itching.

4. Apply a daily moisturizer with SPF to the scalp after the shower. The moisturizer should be mild and for the face or scalp. Use fingers to rub the lotion into the skin.

5. Massage the scalp once a week for three to four minutes. A good head massage, which can be done by yourself or a professional, will bring blood flow to the area, sooth nerves and relax your muscles. Massage the scalp with the balls of your fingertips, in an upward motion, applying firm pressure.

Make Mexican Name Bracelets

Mexican bracelets are fun to make and give as gifts.

If you're looking for a gift with a personal touch, you can't beat the fun of a homemade Mexican name bracelet. They look effortlessly chic on everyone from children to adults, and always bring a touch of humor to an outfit. Put your craft skills to the test and organize a Mexican bracelet-making party to impress your friends, or simply design a few in secret for great surprise gifts.

Instructions

Mexican magic

1. Cut a thin sheet of plastic into a narrow bracelet-shaped, 1/3-inch-by-4-inch strip. Cut a narrow slit at the top of one end.

2. Choose which color you would like as the bracelet's block color and insert the end into the slit of the plastic sheet. For the purposes of illustration, this will be called "Thread A." Tie the thread around the width of the sheet and fasten with a knot.

3. Pick the color you want to use for the letters and cut six threads to 8 inches in length. Lay the six threads side-by-side along the length of the plastic with an even amount of thread dangling off at both ends. Take Thread A and begin to wind tightly around the six threads along the length of the bracelet.

4. Wind Thread A around one-third of the length of the bracelet. Pull all threads taut and make sure that Thread A is tightly wound with no visible gaps.

5. To introduce the third color ("Thread B"), lay it along the length of the bracelet and wind Thread A around it several times to hold it in place. Cut Thread A when the new color is firmly in place.

6. Now you are ready to begin inserting letters. The six underlying threads are the ones that make up the body of each letter. Create a letter by weaving Thread B between the initial six threads to reveal the chosen letter shape. For example, to get the letter F, you will first need to weave Thread B underneath all six threads twice. Next weave Thread B over the top of all three bottom threads, under the fourth, over the fifth and under the top thread. Repeat this weave five times to complete the letter F. For thicker letters simply weave extra layers.

7. Weave other letters in the same way -- this gets easier with practice.

8. When you have finished spelling out the name, reintroduce the block color of Thread A in the same way that you introduced Thread B. Lay Thread A against the plastic sheet and wind Thread B tightly around it to keep it in place.

9. Cut Thread B when you are ready to complete the third section of the bracelet. Continue winding Thread A around the plastic sheet all the way to the end. Ensure that there are no gaps.

10. Cut a slit into the sheet when you reach the end and wind Thread A through to keep it in place. Then cut Thread A.

11. Take a lighter and carefully burn the end of the plastic sheet on both ends -- making sure that you have moved the remainder of the six threads away from the flame. Run the flame quickly over the bracelet so that you get the desired effect without setting it on fire. This should melt everything together and keep the ends firmly in place without burning the thread. Trim any loose ends.

12. Braid the remaining six threads that are dangling over each edge of the woven and plastic body of the bracelet. Braid all the way to the end and seal each end with a knot. Place over your wrist and tie both ends together to complete your fun Mexican name bracelet.

Cut Bangs For The First Time

Bangs can change your hairstyle almost instantly.

Cutting hair requires both skill and practice. One way to keep hair trimmed is to cut your own bangs. Though you can always pop in to your stylist for a bang trim, sometimes given for free between appointments, you may want to give it a go yourself. Even if you have never had bangs, creating bangs can be done with a steady hand and a little practice.

Instructions

1. Make sure you want bangs. Know that bangs are not flattering to every facial shape. Use a photo of yourself with your hair pulled off your face. Using either a computer editing program or a magic marker in a color close to your own hair color, draw bangs on the picture of you. See if you like the way bangs change your look. To do this test without using a picture, take the front portion of your hair, and using a hair clip -- create bangs by clipping the hair up to the length of bangs.

2. Wash and dry your hair. Have clean hair before cutting your bangs. Separate hair and pull back hair that is not going to be cut. Secure the rest of your hair with clips or bands to keep it out of your way. Leave the section of hair you will be cutting to bangs.

3. Dip a comb in water and comb out the hair. Stand in front of a well-lit mirror. Using a steady hand, trim your hair to create bangs. Know that you can always cut more hair to make the bangs shorter, but you cannot undo cutting off too much hair. Use your dominant hand and cut bangs, starting at one side and continuing on to the other. Cut straight across to create a blunt bang and use an angled cut to create sweeping bangs.

4. Dry your hair to see if you like the length of your bangs. Know that hair shrinks as it dries, so check the length before cutting more hair off. Repeat the wetting, combing and trimming process if you want your new bangs to be shorter. If you have wavy or curly hair, your bangs will shrink more than if you have straight hair.

Haircuts For Teenage Girls With Long Hair

Most long haircuts can be styled straight, wavy or curly for markedly different effects.

If you're a teenager with long hair, you may want to try a new and fresh haircut that is more fashion conscious, adult, subtle or just plain different from the hair you had when you were young, without losing the length you have spent years growing. There are tons of long haircuts that are pretty, trendy, subtle or even totally shocking, so it's easy to find a long cut that's as individual as you are.

One-Length Straight Cut

One-length hair is easy to style and can be worn in different ways on different days.

The most basic long haircut is a one-length cut. This requires your hairdresser to cut hair so that all ends fall to approximately the same location, creating straight ends and a sleek and unified look. This subtle, pretty cut looks best on hair that is not overly thick or curly, because such a cut can create a triangular effect on such hair types. One-length long hair is versatile and can be styled into an up-do with relative ease---an ideal choice if you like to have lots of looks with just one cut. Moreover, you can add bangs to draw attention to your face and cheekbones and as a quick way to make a trendy, urban update to your hairstyle.

Long Layers

Long layers are flattering to hair types both straight and curly.

A long layered style makes long hair trendy and more mature looking for college, the job hunt or just to impress your friends. It usually features a long base of hair and some shorter pieces toward the surface of your style. Layers can be subtle or very defined--you have many options to choose from. Long layers can add dimension to thinner hair, shape to thicker hair and provide a more definite style to long haircuts. The right layers will create a flattering, on-trend look that you can easily grow out should you want another change later.

Long Shag

A shaggy haircut is an edgy, confident look that complements your individual style.

A long shag haircut is essentially a more pronounced version of long layers. The hair is cut to widely varying lengths, often shorter at the top and around the face and longer at the back and bottom, although the front can be the longest part for a particularly edgy effect. A shag haircut can be as shocking or as subtle as you want it to be, and it is versatile. You can look anything from neat and tidy for an interview to wild and confident for a date just by moving the shorter pieces around your head and applying mousse or a barrette.

Curved/Angled

A curved style will add dimension and depth to straight, thin hair.

Similar to a one-length cut, curved and angled hair features smooth, clean lines marking the bottom of your haircut. However, instead of a straight horizontal cut, it features slightly less length and hair that either curves up toward the face or forms a V shape down from the nape of your neck. The result is a more distinct style that boosts the intensity of thinner hair and makes it easier to wake up and go to school or out with friends in a hurry with an obvious style in place. Curved or angled styles work for all face shapes and hair types, but are most frequent on people with straight hair. On curly hair, a curved cut can add shape and neatness, but it won't look as edgy.

Prom Updo Directions

Updos are popular for prom because the style is considered timeless.

Give yourself a prom updo for an elegant formal look. The updo works well with long and medium-length hair -- if your hair is too short to pull into a ponytail, it's too short for a basic updo. For the sleekest prom updo, wash, condition and blow dry hair, then straighten with a flat iron. For a curly look, leave strands of hair loose in front and curl with curlers or a curling iron.

Instructions

1. Section hair into our parts: top, left side, right side and back. Separate and clip any sections of hair you want to hang loose. Brush the underside of each section from the scalp to the ends.

2. Pull sections together in the back and secure with a hair band to make a low ponytail at the nape of the neck.

3. Twist ponytail hair into a neat rope and pull the hair around the hair band, using pins to secure. Tuck the end underneath and pin.

4. Remove hair clips. Curl loose sections of hair with a curling iron or curlers, if desired. Adjust hair with your fingers in the front and sides, pinning where necessary.

5. Spray with hairspray to set.

Use Plastic Hair Curlers

Plastic hair rollers can create curls of all sizes.

You can use plastic hair rollers to create curls or soft waves in nearly any type of hair style or length. Hair rollers are slim circular tubes that function as a base for hair to wrap around. Plastic hair rollers contain small holes to provide sufficient ventilation as the hair dries and the curls set. This type of hair curler is popular as no heat is required to create the curls. Plastic hair rollers also work well on damaged or over-processed hair without causing further damage. Using plastic hair rollers is a simple, but time-consuming process, which yields effective results.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair with shampoo and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Apply a dime-size amount of conditioner, focusing on the ends that are prone to damage. Rinse all products out of your hair and towel dry. Hair should be slightly damp when putting in plastic hair rollers.

2. Fill your palm with hair mousse and work through the hair, from root to tip. The amount of mousse used will depend on the length of your hair. Mousse helps keep the curls in place and will prevent the hair from slipping out of the plastic rollers.

3. Smooth out the hair with a wide-tooth comb. Gently work through any tangles that you may encounter along the way. Apply a detangling spray to help remove any difficult knots. Use the comb to create a part down the center of your scalp.

4. Section the hair into one-inch sections using the wide-tooth comb. You can use larger sections to create loose curls, if desired. Pull and secure the surrounding hair up and out of the way with several hair clips.

5. Comb out the one-inch section of hair and pull it straight. Place the plastic hair roller at the end of the hair section. Roll the hair under the plastic curler and upwards to the skull. Ensure that you hold the hair tightly to create a secure curl. Insert a hair clip around the curler to keep in place.

6. Curl the entire head in the same manner. Set the curls by giving the hair a two-minute pass under the blow dryer on high heat. Place the blow dryer a minimum of six inches from the scalp and direct the heat over each plastic curler.

7. Cover the scalp with a hair net to allow time for the curlers to set. Leave the plastic curlers in the hair for at least two hours. For the best results, leave the curlers in the hair overnight. Always allow sufficient time for the hair to dry before removing the rollers.

8. Remove the plastic rollers by removing the clip and carefully unrolling the hair. Finger-comb through the curls to help loosen the curls and to create body. Gently smooth out the hair and style it using a wide bristle brush. Give the hair a light mist of hair spray to keep it in place.

Fun Textured Hairstyles

If you want to change your hairstyle, you'll want to make sure that you have a fresh and versatile style you can pull out of your face when you you go out, or leave it loose while hanging out with friends. A fun textured cut is a good way to make your hair interesting and give it movement. Choose a style that suits your personality and you'll be able to change it with your mood.

Short

If you love short hair, you can create a fun textured hairstyle by asking your hairstylist for a layered, short-cropped style, with most of the volume on top. Slick it back when you hit the beach or the mall, and flip it out for a big party. Play up the texture in your hair by adding in some styling wax and running your fingers through to show the cut's versatility. Look for pictures of stars like Rihanna to show your hairstylist for ideas and clarification.

Another idea is a choppy bob, a fun look you can style according to your mood. Ask your hairstylist to use a razor comb to cut in some texture all over the head.

Medium

If your hair is somewhere between your chin and your shoulders, you can get a cute layered style you can continually change. Ask your stylist for face-framing layers and a shaggy silhouette. This style is easy to maintain and needs little prep work. If you want the texture to look soft and refined, you can blow-dry with a round brush and set with some flexible hairspray. If you want your texture to be the easiest part of your day, scrunch in a light water-based gel when your hair is damp and leave to air dry. The texture in your hair will make the look wavy.

Long

You may automatically think that texture is only meant for short- or medium-length hairstyles. However, if you favor long locks that hang down your back, cutting some texture can make your hair look more fashion forward, and help with the weight, heat and frizz factors in your hair. Ask your stylist to cut some layers to lighten the hair. Choose long layers that blend. You'll find that the new texture reduces the frizz from humidity. The look is cool and fashionable.

Wear A Snood

Wear a Snood

A snood is a hair accessory made of a netting material that holds your hair back behind your neck in an attractive bundle. Wearing a snood is a great way to dress up your typical hair style or to keep your hair attractively out of the way during sporting activities.

Instructions

1. Brush your hair thoroughly to remove any snarls or tangles.

2. Gather your hair into a ponytail at the base of your head or the top of your neck.

3. Open the snood fully and place the front rim over the center of your head, from ear to ear, and the back rim under your ponytail so your hair is inside the snood.

4. Pull the tie or elastic closing mechanism of your snood until it closes snugly around your head. The lobes of your ears should be outside the snood, while the remainder of your ear should be covered.

5. Secure the snood in place with bobby pins, if necessary.

6. Apply hairspray to keep your hair in place beneath the snood. You can also apply hairspray after you pull your hair back into a ponytail. This keeps layered hair in place as you put your snood on.

Relax My Hair With A Weave

Relax My Hair With a Weave

You can relax your hair at any time except when you have a weave in. Your hair can be relaxed immediately before adding your weave, but not while the weave is in. This is because the hair weave may be synthetic, which means it's manufactured to look like real hair, but it will wilt once you add chemicals to it. This type of hair is meant to remain dry. Even when it's a weave made of human hair it may not tolerate the chemicals in hair relaxer, since this hair is considered "dead hair." So you must relax your hair first and match the finished results with a weave that is already straightened.

Instructions

1. Put petroleum jelly on your forehead, meeting the hairline, in front of and behind your ears and on the sides and back of your neck.

2. Comb the hair through with a wide-tooth comb, ensuring there are no tangles. Do not scrape your scalp when you are combing through the hair. Start from the ends of the hair working your way up.

3. Part the hair in a cross formation, yielding four sections (two in the front and two in the back). Braid the top two sections and one of the bottom sections or twist these sections and then clip them, to keep them from loosening. Make a horizontal part about 2 inches above the neck's hairline. Put on your gloves.

4. Apply relaxer on the root (not directly on the scalp) working it downwards. Make the next part 2 inches above this one and apply relaxer in the same manner. Do this to every section until you are finished with all sections, then apply relaxer around the hairline and baby hair. Leave for the time stated on the instruction manual (10 to 20 minutes). Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. Apply neutralizing shampoo and work into a lather. The foam will remain pink until the relaxer is fully out of your hair, then it will turn white. This may take several applications.

5. Rinse the shampoo out of your hair and apply conditioner. Leave conditioner in for 20 to 30 minutes, while wearing a shower cap. Remove the cap and rinse the conditioner out. Finally pat your hair dry, apply leave-in conditioner and blow dry. Choose the weave you want to add in. If you are bonding the weave in, ensure your hair is the same texture as the weave. (If the weave is straight, flat-iron your hair before adding it in.) If you are getting the weave braided in, leave your hair at its normal texture.

Operate My Home Wood Burning Fireplace

Wood Burning Fireplace

A fireplace is one of the features of a house that make it seem like home. The crackle and spark of a warm blaze welcomes you into the evening. The smell of the wood burning that somehow sneaks into the room is delicious while the radiant warmth relaxes your muscles. You need to know a few things about operating your fireplace before you light up a blaze, or you may be calling the fire department.

Instructions

1. Check to make sure the flue in the chimney is open by looking up into the chimney and pushing or pulling the lever if you have one. You should see it open and close. Leave it in the open position. If you forget this, your room will very quickly fill with smoke.

2. Build your fire from the ground up. Ball up some newspaper. It is better to go a little heavy with the paper and kindling so the fire is sure to start than to not have enough and have to start over again. Generally, about ten to fifteen sheets of newspaper will be plenty.

3. Add some thin, dry kindling to the pile of newspaper balls. Don't just throw them on top, place them around the perimeter, vertically forming a tent around the paper. The sticks are usually longer than the pile is tall so they will stick out in all directions, but place them carefully so there is plenty of room for air flow. Use enough to get your logs burning, which means about an eight-inch diameter bundle of sticks.

4. Lay a couple of larger logs against the opposite sides of your pile of paper and kindling. Light the fire with a match or lighter in several places on the bottom of the pile of paper. (This allows the fire to start evenly and burn up through the other paper and kindling.)

5. Step back and put the screen in place. Once the small pieces of wood are burning, and the pile has settled a bit, straighten the larger logs already in the fire and add a few larger logs. Place them to maintain good air flow. A six-inch log should burn for thirty to forty-five minutes, depending on the heat of the fire.

Wedding Half Up Hairstyles

Arranging your hair halfway up gives your style a romantic and feminine touch.

Pulling hair halfway up and styling it is a classic wedding hairstyle that can be easily customized for individual tastes. Arranging hair so that it sits halfway up is one way of ensuring that the hair is pulled up off of the face, while still preserving a relaxed, romantic, and feminine appearance. It is also one of the easiest hairstyles to reproduce on your own, making it an option for brides and bridesmaids who are on a budget.

Twisted Half Ponytail

This is an easy and modern hairstyle that can be done on your own. The half ponytail works well as-is, or with added jewelery accessories. Begins by taking hair from the top half of your head and securing it into a low ponytail. The ponytail should sit close to the top third of the back of your head; use as much or as little hair as you would like. More hair will create a thicker, more dramatic twist, and a lesser amount of hair will create a more delicate effect. Insert your finger into the center of the ponytail, above the rubber band. Lift the tail so that it can be pulled into the hole created by your finger. Pull the tail through the hole, and hang it down again at the back of your head. For a sleeker style, have the ponytail and hair straightened. For a more romantic or voluminous appearance, curl your hair with a curling iron.

Romantic Curls

A curled half up hair arrangement adds instant volume and a romantic appearance. Curling your hair with different sized curling irons will create an assortment of curls that will add texture and interest, as well as giving a more natural appearance to the hairstyle. Curl your hair in small sections with a large and a small-barreled curling iron. Twist some of the pieces around your finger to give your curls a more defined shape. Gently pull back the curls, and pin them at a height of your liking, allowing them to softly drape down the back of your neck. This hairstyle does not require you to make a bun, and it is easily re-arranged.

Medieval Style Braids

French braid two pigtails on either side of your head, leaving the bottom half of your hair hanging loose. When the braids are finished, twist them together into individual buns that sit side-by-side on the center back of your head, or into one large bun that sits in the center back. Secure the bun with pins and an elastic if necessary. This is a very clean hairstyle that still preserves a romantic element without being too fussy. This hairstyle lasts well in outdoor or blustery weather, and is secure enough to support a large veil. Adding in sprigs of baby's breath or dried flowers further accentuates the medieval appearance of this hairstyle.

Half-Curled Chignon

A loose half-curled chignon is a variation of the curled hairstyle. A chignon is a low bun that is worn at the base of the head, right at the nape of the neck. It is held together with bobby pins, and can be placed directly in the center of the back of the head, or on the side. Instead of just pinning up the hair in sections and pieces, a loose chignon is made from the curled hair, and secured slightly higher than a standard chignon. When making your chignon, leave out one or two thicker sections of hair so that they drape down the bottom of your neck. Secure the chignon so it is slightly above the nape of the neck, rather than having it sit right on the nape. Gently pull out tiny strands from the chignon and curl them using a large-barreled curling iron. Also curl the sections of hair that were left out of the chignon. This hairstyle is good for a secure but still romantic appearance, and can hold more weight and last longer than a curled half up hair arrangement.

Wind A Perm

Women and men have been curling their hair for centuries.

Curling your hair on a daily basis is time-consuming and many people choose to obtain a perm that causes hair to hold a curl permanently. There are many types of perms including perms that help to straighten hair. Depending upon your hair type, you may choose to obtain tight curls, waves or spiral curls. Various types of curls are obtained through a combination of rod choice, how your hair is wound on the rod, the types of chemicals used and how long the chemicals are left on your hair.

Instructions

1. Hair products and oils can interfere with chemicals used to perm hair.

Wash your hair thoroughly. Be sure to remove all traces of hair product like mouse, gel or hair conditioner. You may need to wash your hair twice to ensure that all oils and debris is gone.

2. Comb all knots out of your hair. Any kink or knot that is not removed will be permanently coiled into the kinked shape of the knot if your hair is not combed properly.

3. Comb your hair into perm sections according to the style of perm you choose to perform. Different perm styles require different sections to obtain a specific shape for your hairstyle.

4. Use the edge of your comb to select an appropriate section of hair to fit onto the perm rod. Obtain an appropriate section of hair related to the specific type of curl that you have selected. For example, if you are performing a spiral perm, the section of hair you choose should be wide and thin.

5. Comb the selected hair and wrap a perm paper around the tips of your hair. The perm paper is used to keep the tips of your hair from kinking or turning at odd angles during the wrapping process. Using perm papers helps ensure that your permed curls are uniform.

6. Place the perm rod at the tip of your hair and wind the hair tightly around the rod. Loosely wound rods will create curls that are not uniform. (

7. Once all perm rollers are in place you can apply the perm chemicals.

Clasp the rod closed and begin to wind the next section of hair until all of your hair is wound on the perm rods. (Tags: your hair, section hair, appropriate section, appropriate section hair, chemicals used

Arabic Bridal Hairstyles

The Arabic bride must make many of her wedding decisions based on the traditions of her religious background as well as on the specific views of her family, the groom's family, and the community in which she will marry. While an Arabic wedding in most of the dozens of countries where a Muslim culture prevails may be elaborate or simple, hairstyle and head covering play an important role.

Strictly Traditional

For a strictly traditional Muslim wedding, the gender of invited guests is important because no man may see a woman with her head uncovered. For such a traditional wedding, male and female guests must be separated, as are the bride and groom. The bride in this case may wear her hair in any fashion she chooses, and she need not cover her head or face. The hair may be worn simply, down her back, or upswept with elaborate embellishments.

Less Traditional

For more modern brides who will appear before a heterogeneous group of guests, a hijab must be worn in order to respect the Muslim tradition of modesty. A hijab is customarily in the form of some sort of head wrap that may be accompanied by a veil, a scarf or a hat that may cover the lower half of the face. No hair is visible under the head covering, but the bride may choose to have a special hairstyle for after the wedding when her groom will enjoy seeing her head and face.

Least Traditional

Other Arabic brides choose more unconventional garb and hairstyles. A contemporary white wedding gown accompanied with a Western-style veil may be worn by a modern Muslim bride along with a modern upswept or long, sleek or curled hairstyle. She may also elect to wear a white gown with a hijab made of transparent materials that reveal her modern hairstyle.

Embellishments

Even for a simple wedding ceremony, Arab families often choose to embellish the bride with jewels and gold. A bride's hijab could be clasped with a diamond brooch or topped with a priceless tiara. Jewels that drape over the bride's forehead are commonly seen in Arab countries and elaborate earrings are worn by most brides. All these accessories combine to form a hairstyle of sorts, whether the hair is visible or not.

Enjoy A Convertible

Convertibles have made a comeback, and almost every automaker is producing one. These sporty cars are a symbol of the American independent spirit. Nothing evokes a stronger feeling of freedom than the image of a convertible driving down the open road. If you drive your car with a nod toward safety and style, you can enjoy a drive in a convertible on a beautiful sunny day.

Instructions

1. Wear your seatbelt. When you drive a convertible, safety is extra important. Always wear your seatbelt and require any passengers to do the same. You can't enjoy the ride if you're worrying about safety.

2. Apply sunscreen. Cruising along with the breeze on your face, you may not notice how much sun you are getting. Protect yourself against the sun's damaging effects.

3. Secure your hair. Aside from being unattractive, hair whipping around your face can be painful and dangerous. Despite what you've seen in movies, when you drive a convertible, your hair blows in all directions. You should secure it so that it at least stays out of your eyes. Wear a hat or a tight hairstyle. Keep hair accessories in the car for those days when you didn't think you'd put the top down, but the weather was so nice you couldn't resist.

4. Keep any loose items in the trunk. Another issue of safety involves items that could blow away while you drive your convertible down the highway. Nothing is safe, so put all items in the trunk. The distraction of blowing items can be dangerous for you and other drivers on the road. Make sure to keep newspapers, magazines and all loose papers in a secure place out of the wind.

5. Roll the windows down. If it's warm enough to drive the convertible with the top down, the windows should also come down. Don't go all nerd on us by driving around with the windows up and the top down. It looks odd because it is. If you get a little chilled during your drive, turn the heat on or wear a jacket.

Curly Updo Ideas For The Prom

While curly hair like this can be difficult to style, it looks fabulous when piled into an updo.

Whether your hair is naturally curly or straight as a pin, a curly updo can transform your hair, creating the perfect complement to your prom gown. Curly updos can be messy or formal, loose or tight--it all depends on your personal preferences, as well as your hair length and strengths. Choosing the right curly updo for prom is easy, if you bear in mind your face shape and hair type. Longer faces are flattered by curly updos with side parts and bangs, while wider or shorter faces benefit from curly updos that add height at the crown. Square faces are flattered by softer curly updo styles, while a heart shaped face is flattered by an curly updo with an off-center part. Oval faces are flattered by nearly every curly updo.

Partial Curly Updos

A partial curly updo is easy to achieve. After curling your hair (if it is straight), merely lift some of the top layer of your hair and secure with bobby pins, a decorative comb, clips or a barrette. The lower layers may be left loose. This style works with both loose and tight curls. Volume may be added by securing the top part of the hair close to the crown. For a retro chic effect, you can even choose to try a bouffant style with the upper section of your hair.

Messy Curly Updos

Messy, seemingly artless curly updos can be casual but elegant. This look often requires the use of many bobby pins. After curling or styling your hair, leave some strands of hair near your face loose, securing the others in a loose, piled arrangement by using bobby pins. Some strands should be completely secured, while others are allowed to partially dangle. Curls may also be crisscrossed over each other. This look can be polished by adding a headband or tiara. Texturing pomade or paste will keep this look under control but interesting.

Classic Curly Updos

You can also choose to model your curly prom updo on a classic style from the past. Try tightly waving your hair in a simulation of flapper finger waves, and then securing it at your nape, for Zelda Fitzgerald flair. For a 1940s look, try doing your hair in loose, high waves and then securing it in a chignon.

Romantic Curly Updos

Romantic curly updos work for both weddings and proms, and are very flattering for all face shapes. To create a curly updo, secure your hair in a pony tail and pull some front strands forward to frame the face. If your hair is straight, you can curl it in spirals, loose waves or tight kinks. You can place the ponytail at the crown of the head, secure it on the side or tie at the base of the neck. This will dramatically affect the look of your curly updo, so you should experiment before deciding on the best placement for you. The overall effect will be a soft cascade of curls. Strands of hair can be wrapped around the band used to secure the ponytail, which will give it an elegant simplicity.

Braided Curly Updos

There are many options for creating a braided curly updo. You can choose to french-braid the top part of your hair, leaving the rest curly and unbraided, and then pin it up. You can also braid small sections of your hair, and incorporate them into your curly updo style, which will give your curly updo a romantic, old-fashioned flavor. Finally, you can braid a one-inch section of your hair on one side of your face and wrap it all the way around to your other ear, securing it with bobby pins. The rest of your hair may be tucked around this braid, or it can be left curly and loose for a partial updo effect.

Transitioning From A Relaxer To Natural Hair

Natural hair

There are many reasons why a woman with a relaxer would want to go back to natural hair. It could be for health reasons, finance, convenience, or simply personal preference. Whatever the reasons for going back, it is can be a stressful process. You may not be quite sure about do it. Should you go to a natural hair stylist? Should you attempt to do it yourself? The choice is yours, but if you choose to do it yourself, here are a few tips to help make the transition successful.

Instructions

1. Stop putting chemical relaxers in your hair. This is an important first step in the transition from relaxed to natural hair. It’s tempting to continue when your hair starts getting thicker at the roots, but resist.

2. Deep condition your hair weekly and moisturize daily to keep your hair from becoming dry and brittle. Dry hair breaks off easily, so keep it adequately moisturized.

3. Find a hairstyle that is easy to manage and will accommodate the transition. You may want to wear hair extensions for a time. Braids are a good transition hair style because it allows your hair to rest and grow out without excessive manipulation. The less strain you put on your hair from combing and styling, the better for transitional hair.

4. Trim your hair every four to six weeks. Trimming the hair removes dead ends and the gradually cuts away the relaxed part of the hair. The trim will also give your hair a neat look and allow greater styling options.

5. When you have at least two to three inches of newly grown hair, do the big chop. This simply means that you cut off all the relaxed hair now that you have enough hair that is natural. Cutting your hair at this point will also lessen the strain on your natural new growth.

6. Style your newly cropped hair with twists, small afros, scarves and other hair accessories. Accent your face by neatly arching your eyebrows, wearing attractive earrings and a beautiful smile.

Soil Textural Analysis

Soil texture influences the irrigation required for the garden.

Soil texture refers to the size of the mineral particles in the soil. The largest particles measure .05 mm to 20 mm and are labeled sand. Silt particles measure .002 to .05 mm, while the tiny clay particles are less than .002 mm.

Importance

Soils with an abundance of sand are easy to till but hold little water. They require frequent fertilization and irrigation. Soils high in clay hold more water and nutrients but are difficult to till. Loam soils contain an ideal mixture of sand, silt and clay.

Ribbon Test

Estimate the soil texture by grabbing a handful of soil. Add water, mix and attempt to form the wet soil into a thin ribbon. Sandy soil will not form a ribbon. It crumbles easily. Loam or silty soil is shaped into a short ribbon. Soils with large amounts of clay particles are easy to form into long ribbons.

Jar Test

Fill an empty mayonnaise or canning jar one-third full of soil. Add several tablespoons of a water softener such as Calgon and fill the jar with water. Cover, shake and let sit for several hours. The sand particles will form a layer on the bottom of the jar. Silt particles form the middle layer and the clay layer is on top. Estimate the soil texture by measuring the layers.

Commercial Lab

Commercial labs analyze soil texture and prepare reports. There are 12 textural classes. The soil texture data influences garden watering, tillage and fertilization practices.

Hot Wedding & Prom Hairstyles

Bring pictures of your desired hairstyle with you to the salon.

On your wedding or prom day you want your hair to look as glamorous as possible, especially since a photographer will be taking shots of you all night long. Start off your search for the perfect hairstyle by flipping through magazines and getting ideas of what you like. Bring pictures with you to the salon so that you can be sure your hairstylist knows exactly what you want.

Down and Loose

A loose hairstyle is an elegant bridal look.

Wearing your hair down with a few loose, subtle waves is a soft and romantic style for any bride or prom-goer. With the right texturing techniques your hairstylist can give your hair volume and bounce that lingers all night long. For gals with long locks, accentuate your length by adding playful layers in the back and on the sides, finished with a giant wave that makes them stand out. A down 'do does not require too much jewelry, since the hair serves as an accessory itself. Pair this style with a simple necklace and dangly earrings.

The Up-Do

A simple bun is timeless and classy.

An up-do hairstyle can give you a more formal look, but keep in mind that not all up-dos have to be French Twists or full of curly strands that frame your face. Sleek buns and ponytails are also popular styling choices among brides and prom-goers. Up-dos can be worn by themselves, or you can add an elegant pin, beret or flower to the look. Consider this hairstyle with strapless or halter dresses, as it will show off your neckline and shoulders. For jewelry, long earrings will help accentuate your neck. For a classic or more conservative look, combine this hairstyle with pearl stud earrings and a simple pearl necklace.

Side Styles

Side styles can add a glamorous appeal to your look.

Many brides and prom-goers are throwing their hair to the side for trendy side styles, such as side ponytails, buns or braids. Such styles can make your look turn from pretty to glamor-girl, especially when paired with the right earrings and makeup. Messy styles --- which actually take a lot of effort to achieve --- are fashionable, but still formal enough for such events as weddings and proms. With this style, avoid adding too many distracting accessories, such as flowers. The actual 'do itself will spark enough attention. Keep the trendy theme by pairing a side style with an off-the-shoulder or strapless dress. The jewelry you select can make this hairstyle louder or softer. Brides and prom-goers who want a more glamour-girl appearance should wear multi-strand, short necklaces. For a softer look, skip the necklace and find a pair of chandelier earrings.

Short Styles

Style short hair by sweeping one side to another.

If you have short hair, you still have many options for wear it. For those gals with bobs, do a sleek look with a side sweep across the forehead, finishing with a pin or a flower that matches your gown. If you have a pixie cut, you can keep your layers tame or let them go free. Either way, feel free to add an accessory. Even thin headbands can make your hairstyle stand out.

Half-and-Half

Keep the front of a half-up do full of volume.

Many brides and prom-goers opt for a half-up, half-down look. One way to make this look hotter is to add a lot of volume to the top front portion of your hair. Use pins to keep the hair in place, and allow the locks in the back to hang down in large curls. This hairstyle pairs nicely with strapless, halter or off-the-shoulder dresses.

Things To Do On Prom Night

Be sure to stop by the parents' houses for pictures.

Prom only happens once a year, so it's important to make the most of it. Don't just drop into prom and call it a night. Instead, be sure to plan ample time for pictures with parents, a pre-dance dinner, fun at the main event and a fun, safe after-party among friends.

Parents and Pictures

The night should start with a trip to both parents' houses for pictures. You also should visit grandparents if they are in town and this is feasible. Remember that while this is you and your date's big night, these are the people who helped get you there and they should be honored as well. Be sure to take lots of pictures, and be patient and polite with over-eager parents who can't seem to let you out the door. If time allows, be sure to get a shot each with your mom and dad, one of the couple, another of the couple and parents, and any other photo combination you think you may want later.

Dinner

Hopefully you have made dinner reservations by prom night, or have at least called ahead to make sure there is available space. You may opt to dine with your date alone, or with friends; either is entirely acceptable. Don't eat like a bird because you will need the energy for dancing, but you should probably avoid any saucy or oily dishes to protect your attire.

The Prom

Even if you have a more interesting after-party to attend later, do take your time while you are at the prom. It is important to meet and greet all of the people who have been important to you through the years, as this is the last time you will all be together under one roof. Be sure to log in some time with friends at photo booths or in front of cameras, and don't forget to take a formal shot with your date or friends. This should be done as early in the evening as possible, before your hairstyle and makeup start to fade. After photos, dance to your heart's content, and when you and your date are bored, it's time for the after-party.

The After-Party

The after-party is ideally a home gathering consisting of you and your closest friends. This is a chance to enjoy each other in a more comfortable setting before everyone divides up and goes their separate ways. Movies, music and conversation over late-night snacks are a fun way to spend a prom after-party. Be sure you know what you are getting into before the party, however, as alcohol and sexual behavior find their way into some of these gatherings.

Curl Rods For A Homemade Perm

To acheive a beautiful perm, it is important to know roll perming rods correctly.

A perm can transform even the straightest hair into beautiful curly locks. Although you could go to a beauty salon or spa to get a perm for your hair, it can often be very costly. One alternative is to give yourself a homemade perm using a perming kit, which can be purchased at any beauty supply store. When giving yourself a home perm, it is important to know the proper way to curl the perming rods.

Instructions

1. Wet your hair, and towel dry it so that your hair remains damp.

2. Separate your hair into six sections: one section on the top-front of your head, one section on the crown of your head and two sections on each side of your head. Secure each section with a hair clip.

3. Take the hair clip out of the crown section, and use a point-handled comb to separate out a thin section at the very top of the crown section.

4. Place a perming paper underneath the thin section, and place a second perming paper on top.

5. Squeeze a small amount of the perm solution onto the paper, saturating it.

6. Place an opened perming rod underneath the papers, and hook the ends of the papers over it.

7. Roll the rod under, effectively rolling the papered hair with it.

8. Stretch the elastic clasp over the rolled perm rod, and hook it into the end of the rod. This completes one permed rod.

9. Repeat this process with the remaining hair on the crown section.

10. Repeat this process with the other sections, starting with the front section, then the back side sections and finish with the front side sections.

11. Leave the rolled perm rods in your hair as long as the perm kit instruction require, then rinse out your hair in the sink using slightly warm water.

Stepbystep Easy Updos For Hair

Step-by-Step Easy Updos for Hair

Easy updo hairstyles are perfect any time of the year and for all different occasions such as proms and weddings. Whether you have short or long hair or thin or thick, there are quick and simple updos you can follow to style your hair and achieve a fashionable look. There are three updos for hair that are especially popular: the side-swept bun, the voluminous updo and the French twist.

Instructions

Side-Swept Bun

1. Shampoo and condition your hair.

2. Take a 2-inch section from the top front part of your hair and hold it straight up.

3. Spray hairspray in a downwards motion on the roots area of the hair.

4. Backcomb your hair by combing backwards on the first 2 to 3 inches of hair at the roots with deep, slow strokes. The hair should stand up on its own when you let it go. You may need to backcomb a few times to achieve the desired volume.

5. Backcomb the rest of the top of your hair, but lightly at the bottom.

6. Tousle hair slightly and pull back into a low side ponytail at the back of your head.

7. Secure with a hair elastic.

8. Twist the ponytail around into a bun shape and secure with bobby pins, placing a few pins randomly around the circle of the bun to ensure it stays in place.

9. Spray hair lightly with hairspray to set the style.

Voluminous Updo

10. Brush hair through to prepare for styling. This hairstyle works best on slightly dirty hair, so try to wash hair the day or even night before styling.

11. Take a 2-inch section from the top front part of your hair and hold it straight up.

12. Spray hairspray in a downwards motion on the roots area of the hair.

13. Backcomb this section of hair by combing backwards on the first 2 to 3 inches of hair at the roots with deep, slow strokes. The hair should stand up on its own when you let it go. You may need to backcomb a few times to achieve the desired volume.

14. Backcomb the rest of the hair on the top of your head, working in 2-inch sections throughout.

15. Brush hair lightly over the top with a natural bristle brush to smooth slightly and gather it together in the back. Your hair should be completely brushed back, with no part showing.

16. Roll hair up vertically--either to the left or right, whichever side you prefer--starting at the ends and continuing until you have rolled the hair up to your head. The twist of hair should rest against the back of your head.

17.Secure with bobby pins, ensuring the ends of your hair are tucked neatly in underneath the twist. The thicker your hair, the more bobby pins it will take to secure.

18. Spray the finished style with hairspray to set the look and help maintain the height and fullness of your hair.

French Twist

19. Shampoo and condition hair.

20. Blow dry hair with a round brush to add volume to your hair.

21. Curl random pieces of hair with a curling iron, winding them away from the face. Do not worry about it being perfect or about curling every piece of hair, as it will be put up in an updo.

22. Backcomb the hair on the top half of your head. Work in 2-inch sections, combing backwards on the first 2 to 3 inches of hair at the roots on each section with deep, slow strokes. The hair should stand up on its own when you let it go. You may need to backcomb a few times to achieve the desired volume.

23. Tousle hair lightly with fingers.

24. Part hair as desired--any part works for this style--and direct all your hair over to the right at the back of your head.

25. Secure hair to the side with two to three bobby pins, placing them vertically in hair.

26

Twist hair vertically to the left, starting at the ends and continuing until you have rolled the hair up to your head. The twist of hair should rest against the back of your head.

27

Secure with bobby pins, ensuring the ends of your hair are tucked neatly in underneath the twist. The thicker your hair, the more bobby pins it will take to secure.

28

Tousle the top of your hair gently with fingers to slightly dishevel the hair.

29

Spray hair lightly with hairspray to set the style.

Clean Andis Electric Clippers

Cosmetologists are required by similar laws in each state to clean their cutting tools after each and every client. This is to prevent the spread of preventable diseases or infestations. Electric clippers, however, can't be dipped in a jar of disinfectant to sanitize the blades between each use. To solve this dilemma, Andis makes a multipurpose five-in-one spray or clipper oil that can be used to clean electric clipper blades. The Andis Cool Care Plus Spray cools, disinfects, lubricates, prevents rust and cleans Andis electric clipper blades.

Instructions

1. Use a small brush to remove excess hair from the Andis electric clippers.

2. Pour some of the clipper oil into a shallow pan.

3. Turn the clippers on and immerse only its blades in clipper oil. Keep running the clippers to remove excess hair and dirt that may have been trapped in between the clipper and blade.

4. Turn the clippers off and remove from the pan. Wipe down the blades with a dry cloth.

Curl Long Hair With A Curling Iron

Although it's beautiful, hair that is long and straight can sometimes lack pizazz. Yet many women with this hairstyle will not commit to making a drastic change, such as a perm. The next time you are going out for a night on the town or are simply craving a temporary change, curl your hair. Once you know properly set your hair with a curling iron, you will enjoy transforming your look with beautiful, long curls that you can easily undo at the end of the day and won't have to spend a fortune on.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair the night before you plan on curling it, as curling irons tend to work better on day-old hair.

2. Use a wide-toothed comb to untangle your hair.

3. Apply a thermal protection spray, using your fingers to evenly comb it through the hair.

4. Give the spray a few minutes to dry. The wetter your hair is while curling, the more likely it is to get damaged by the heat.

5. Plug in the iron and adjust the heat settings as desired. Keep in mind that the longer and finger the hair is, the more heat is required to create long-lasting curls.

6. Separate hair into sections, approximately 1-inch thick, and secure each section with a clip while you wait for the iron to get hot.

7. Take the end of one section and clamp it between the plates of the curler. Try to get as close to the tips of the hair as possible to avoid crimped ends.

8. Wind the hair around the barrel.

9. Hold the iron in place vertically for about 5 seconds once the entire section is wound around the barrel.

10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 on the remaining sections, alternating between winding the hair inward and outward around the barrel.

11. Finish by misting the curls with a holding spray.

How Do Girls Wear Their Hair At A Tea Party

Hair Accessories are Perfect for Tea Parties

When it comes to girl-centric events, like slumber or tea parties, appearance suddenly becomes super important. Everything from what to wear to the style of hair is crucial. Whether the event is formal or fairly casual, the right hair style is super important for girls of all ages.

Straight Hair

For girls with straight hair, simply leave it straight. This will be easy and quick to style. Comb and brush it thoroughly, so that it's well groomed and shiny.

To dress up straight hair, pull it up into a high bun at the crown of her head. Leave a couple of tendrils loose on both sides of her face; curl these or leave them alone.

For a more casual tea party, two braids on either side of the head is a simple style that will keep her hair out of her face and free from tangles. Secure the braided ends with ribbons that match her clothes.

Curly Styles

For girls with naturally curly hair, style the curls so that they're uniform. Use your fingers to twirl individual sections to create a neat, curly look; a side part is always cute and appropriate.

For something different, pull her curly hair into a topknot, just as you would on straight hair. Leave two tendrils loose on either side of her face for added interest. Because her hair is already curly, you won't need to do any additional styling.

If a girl's hair isn't naturally curly, set her hair on sponge rollers overnight or for several hours before the party. Use hairspray on her new curls, so that they stay curly and don't fall flat.

Cute Accessories

Cute hair accessories are what make a girl's hairstyle perfect for a tea party. Choose ribbons that match her dress. Place sparkly pins and barrettes in her hair. Tiaras will make a girl feel like a princess; if she's wearing a very fancy dress, a tiara will go perfectly with it. Tiaras also work well with up-dos or hair that's worn down and loose; they don't look as good with two ponytails, so consider the hairstyle before putting on a tiara.

Flowers always look cute in a girl's hair and go well with a tea party theme. Find bows and barrettes with floral embellishments. You can also create them yourself with craft store supplies, such as fake flowers and ribbons.

Make Relaxed Hair Wavy

Relaxed hair by definition is flat and straight. One would think that after going through the relaxing process that a person would be satisfied with the straight hair that they achieved. But many hairstyles call for at least a little bit of wave and body, so a person with relaxed hair learns to create waves and even curls when needed. But these styling methods are temporary and will only last until the hair gets wet.

Instructions

Make Relaxed Hair Wavy

1. After showering, apply setting lotion to clean, towel-dried hair, combing it through to distribute evenly from the roots to the ends of the hair.

2. Loosely braid two-inch sections of the hair, securing the braids with hair elastics. Be sure to braid as close to the ends as possible so that you don't create waves with an inch of straight hair at the end.

3. Blow dry braids on medium setting until they are dry, or sit under a hair dryer until dry. The hair dryer option is easier on your arms and gives you a little relaxing time as well. You can catch up on your favorite book while waiting for your hair to dry.

4. Remove elastics and unbraid the braids, letting them fall naturally. Once all the braids are removed, you can use your fingers or the wide-toothed comb to arrange the hair where you want it to be.

5. The waves will last until you get your hair wet again. Controlling the waves is handled with the setting lotion you applied before drying your hair. It will help the hair remain smooth and sleek while holding the waves in place.

Airline Travel Restrictions For Hair Dryers And Curling Irons

For some, beauty tools such as the curling iron and blow dryer are a necessity.

Just because you are flying off somewhere for vacation does not mean you want to wear a ponytail every day of your trip. A hair dryer and curling iron or flat iron can be essential tools for everyday good looks. The problem is the regulations seem to change all of the time in regards to what you can pack in your carry-on or checked baggage for air travel. Does that mean these hair care tools will have to stay home?

Travel Security Administration

The Travel Security Administration (TSA) publishes a list of all items that are prohibited in carry-on and/or checked luggage. While various weaponry must be checked, a hair dryer and/or a curling iron are allowed in either case.

Check with Your Airline

It is possible that your airline carrier may have additional items on the list of prohibited items. Southwest and United Airlines both encouraged their customers to double-check the TSA list of prohibited items before packing suitcases. If a bag has not been used recently, it is suggested to go through every compartment to make sure nothing prohibited has been forgotten from a past trip.

Notification of Prohited Items by Email

If you travel by air frequently, you might want to consider signing up for email notification from the TSA. By supplying your email address on the TSA website, you will be notified by alert when there are any changes to the prohibited items list.

How Transfer My House To My Child

Transferring the deed of your house to your children can be a beneficial process for you before your death. It can protect you from Medicare trying to put a lien on your property to collect on end-of-life claims. There are several ways a house can be given to your children.

Quit Claim Deeds

A quit claim deed is when a person says that they are no longer staking any claims to a property and transferring ownership to another person who is then staking claim to the property. This is a simple process. An attorney is hired, and Quit Claim Deeds are filed with the local clerk of courts and property appraiser's office.

There are, however, drawbacks to handing over the property to your children through quit claim deeds. For one, the children are responsible for all taxes, insurance, liens and anything else that comes with the property.

Also, if the child decides to sell the property, he will have to pay a capital gains tax on the difference in the amount between what it was bought for and what it sells for. If you have owned the property for many years and it has doubled or tripled in value, a 30 percent to 40 percent capital gains tax can be taken out on the difference.

Finally, with a quit claim deed, if you are seeking Medicare end-of-life coverage, you will have to wait a minimum of three years before being able to claim benefits.

Joint Ownership

Another option is putting the children on the house as joint owners. Although this does not solve the issues with Medicare, it does relieve the large tax burden that the children will face when or if the property is sold. To add a joint owner, contact your local county clerk's office and fill out the form adding a person to the ownership of the property. They will ask what percentage each person will own.

Once you pass away however, things become more complicated, as whoever is your power of attorney also becomes of the owner of that piece of the property. Your children should be listed as the power of attorney; therefore, they will be able to execute ownership on the property in full when you pass.

Selling the House to Children and Forgiving the Note of Mortgage

The final way a house can be transferred to your children is my selling it at fair market value, and having your children take out a note of mortgage with a minimum monthly payment. At some point, the note can be forgiven.

But be careful with this, as it can get tricky with the Internal Revenue Service. Current IRS rules say that that anyone can give anyone else a gift of up to $12,000 per year, tax-free. Also, if someone gives somebody else a loan with the intent of not paying them back, the loan note is considered a gift and will be taxed.

Consulting a financial planning expert before attempting this step is the best way to go. Also, all fees associated with the buying and selling of a home will be applicable.

The Impact Of Mexican Culture On Fashion

Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico's most famous artists, took fashion as a subject and in turn influenced many fashion designers worldwide.

Mexican culture is comprised of a unique amalgamation of Spanish and indigenous influences that represent the mixing of different traditions and time periods. Imagery and symbols from pre-Colombian tribal history, Spanish and indigenous religious culture, and modern Mexican artistic culture alike have all had an impact on traditional Mexican fashion as well as on contemporary fashion around the world.

Aztec and Mayan Culture

Fashion designers have long utilized and taken inspiration from the art and textiles of the pre-Columbian Aztec and Mayan cultures that inhabited central and southern Mexico. Aztec and Mayan art often consisted of images of deities and sacrifice, but also of painted and woven geometric patterns featuring triangular and arrowhead shapes interspersed with rectilinear shapes. In recent years, popular contemporary designers such as Opening Ceremony, Mara Hoffman, Proenza Schouler and Missoni have shown designs inspired by Aztec patterns, often updating them with neon colors or combining them with other influences.

Religious and Folk Art

Mexican religious culture is full of icons and imagery culled from Catholic, Spanish, and indigenous religions and folk traditions. One of the most important festivals in Mexico is the Day of the Dead, a celebration of the lives of friends and family who have died, and is associated with images of skulls and costumed skeletons. These symbols were an explicit inspiration for Riccardo Tisci's Autumn/Winter 2010 collection for Givenchy, which featured skulls and crossbones; and has also appeared in mass-market fashion such as in Freak of Nature's "Day of the Dead Bodysuit", featuring a large skull graphic decorated with roses.

Frida Kahlo and Modern Art

Twentieth-century Mexican artist Frida Kahlo took an interest in traditional clothing, and collected and wore typical long skirts, peasant blouses, flowers, pre-Columbian jewelry and rebozos, or traditional scarves. She painted herself in these and in special regional costumes -- most famously, a dramatic, pleated face-framing ruffle from Oaxaca. Today, her self-portraits serve as a historical record of the vibrancy of traditional clothing, as well as visual inspiration to fashion designers and stylists decades later. A few recent examples include Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy, whose 2010/2011 collection was also inspired by Kahlo; and stylist Giovanna Battaglia, who stepped out at the 2012 Met Ball in a Kahlo-inspired Dolce and Gabbana dress, floral crown and hair braid.

Traditional Revival

Today, Mexican fashion designers have updated many of the same traditional items, including embroidered blouses, rebozo and elaborately decorated cowboy boots, based on their popularity among people in Mexico and worldwide. Mexican designers have also influenced contemporary fashion with heavy use of florals, embroidery and bold colors. Mexican designer Christian Cota, who was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 2010, has explained that he is heavily inspired by the vibrant colors of the sky, desert and sunsets in Mexico.

How Can Hair Ties Be Harmful

Children's hair ties are available in a variety of colors.

Hair ties have been a staple in women's fashion for years because of their practical and stylish benefits. Starting from a young age, many females use colorful hair ties and elastics on a daily basis to style their hair into ponytails, pig-tails and braids. However, the stylish accessories can cause a variety of problems, from split ends to the potential spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Hair Damage

The most common harm that results from using hair ties is damage to your hair in the form of split ends. Rubber hair elastics that aren't covered with a soft fabric, or hair elastics that are secured with a metal band can snag and break strands of your hair as you are putting them in and taking them out of the hair. Wet hair is especially vulnerable to damage from hair bands, as it is more elastic than dry hair, reports Short-Hair-Style.com.

Head Lice

Although children are often taught to share, they should keep their hair accessories to themselves, as sharing hair ties could cause the spread of head lice. The head louse is an extremely contagious human parasite that is particularly prevalent among children and is spread through person-to-person contact. According to NYC.gov, a person who has contracted head lice should throw out her hair accessories.

Questionable Materials

In 2008, a news story emerged claiming that some Chinese-manufactured hair elastics were made from recylced used condoms. It isn't clear whether the condoms were merely recycled prophylactics that had not met code or condoms that had been used for their intended purpose, but Chinese state media confirmed that the latter was possible, reports TruthorFiction.com. If true, the hair elastics in question could have retained traces of sexually transmitted diseases.

Unconfirmed Myths

A popular, well-circulated e-mail containing rape prevention tips claims that the number one feature rapists look for in a victim is long hair that is tied up in a ponytail or braid, as it gives the attacker something to grab hold of. According to Snopes.com, this view is not shared by law enforcement officials nor reflected in statistics regarding rape victims.

Solutions

In order to minimize the harmful effects of hair ties, ensure that you purchase good-quality products. "Ouchless" hair elastics are covered in soft fabric and don't have a metal band on them, so they don't cause as much breakage. Also, using the same hairstyle every day, such as a ponytail, can cause repeated damage in one area, according to Short-Hair-Style.com. Varying your hairstyle from day to day will keep portion of your hair from sustaining more than the rest.

Women'S Shaggy Hairstyles

The shaggy hairstyle is a carefree, sexy style that looks attractive on many women. It is strategically messy, as it is cut in layers to mimic a sexy, tousled look. The shag was a popular hairstyle in the 1970s that had made a comeback. A good shaggy cut requires little maintenance and is a look that flatters women of various ages. You can choose from short to long shaggy hairstyles.

Short Shaggy Hairstyle

The short shaggy hairstyle is perfect for the confident woman in her prime (think Meg Ryan). Sensuality is no longer tied to long hair; this short tousled look calls attention to a carefree style. A short shaggy hairstyle frames the face with layers, with the longest layers in the back to give hairstyle structure and flow.

To care for your short shaggy hairstyle, towel dry your wet hair and spray on leave-in conditioner. Apply gel and volumizer and blow-dry your hair with a brush. Lift strands of hair as you blow dry and direct the blow dryer upward to give your hair texture and bounce. Apply pomade to define the layers. You can also ask your hairstylist to add highlights to your hair to give it more depth and color. This is an easy way to personalize your shaggy cut.

Medium and Long Shaggy Hairstyles

Shaggy hairstyles are not limited to short hair; women with medium to long hair can also enjoy this sexy look. This style is attractive on many women as it flatters many face shapes. It is especially appealing for women with thicker hair, as your hairstylist uses a razor to sculpt your hair into soft, shaped layers. Moreover, the shag is a relaxed alternative to sleek, long hairstyles that demand more maintenance. However, the shaggy hairstyle is not for the timid. It calls for a flexible personality that embraces the shag's messy, tousled look. The shag is deceptively messy as it has an organized structure of layers that achieve this look. Medium and long shaggy hairstyles enhances a woman's facial features by framing the face with bangs and soft layers.

To style medium and long shag styles, start with dry hair and spray leave-in conditioner on the bangs. Smooth your bangs with a comb. Spray the rest of your hair with hairspray, then bend forward and blow-dry your hair from the back. This will help you achieve the strategically "messy" look in a shag style.

Oldfashioned Wedding Hairstyles

A few decorations help dress up any wedding hairstyle.

For most of U.S. history until the 1920s, women always wore their hair long. This is particularly true during the Victorian age, the period when most of our modern wedding traditions and styles took root. Logically, most old-fashioned wedding hairstyles are meant for women with long hair. Fortunately, women with short hair can use faux hair pieces and wiglets to help create a classic wedding hairstyle.

Basics

Traditional wedding hairstyles tend to be soft and romantic. They usually involve some combination of curls, braids, buns or twists. Most of the styles also include some sort of decorative element, such as beads, gems, ribbons and flowers. The look should complement your ensemble. If you plan on wearing a veil, make sure the hairstyle will look good with your veil.

Styles

A sleek chignon is a classic wedding hairstyle that looks great with or without a veil. A chignon is a wide and flat bun worn low on the neck. You can also create a half-chignon. Just separate your hair into a front and back section. Smooth the front section with a brush, create the low chignon and secure into place with bobby pins. Take the back section and use a curling iron to create a few soft curls to cascade down your back.

A crown of tumbling curls is a very traditional wedding hairstyle that works for every type of hair accessory, except low veils. The easiest way to create the style is to pull your hair into a high ponytail. If you have curly hair, shape your curls into ringlets and pull a few curls out of the ponytail to fall around your face. If you have straight hair, divide the ponytail into five to seven sections and curl each one into tight ringlets. Pull a few strands of hair out around your face and curl them into tiny ringlets.

For an old-fashioned wedding hairstyle with a fancy air, try a French braid and curls twist. Separate the hair into front and back sections. Take the front section and split it into right and left. Take the left section and French braid it along the crown of the head, ending about halfway back. Secure the braid with a decorative barrette. Repeat the process with the right section. Gather the left, right and back sections of hair together and twist them upward to the top of the head. Secure the twist with a decorative barrette. Take the hair ends that are sticking out and shape them into soft curls.

If you're searching for a Victorian-themed wedding hairstyle, you cannot go wrong with a "Gibson Girl" look. The hairstyle is a loose bun worn midway down the head. The front hair is poofed a bit around the bang area, often with a few curled tendrils falling down around the ears. To create the look, pull the front section of hair up towards the crown of the head. Holding the hair tight, push the section forward to create a poof and secure with a small barrette. Pull all the hair together and twist into a loose bun secured with bobby pins.

What Is Hair Texturizer

What Is Hair Texturizer?

Curly and kinky hair tend to have uniquely shaped hair cuticles that can be difficult to style into straighter styles, which have more manageability. That's where hair texturizers come in.

Benefits

Hair texturizers are chemical products that can loosen the hair cuticle's texture. Sometimes, people choose to straighten their hair with heating appliances such as flat irons or curling irons. Results produced by heating appliances are temporary, and the hair will most likely revert to its natural state in humidity and moisture. Hair texturizers are more permanent than heating appliances. They don't allow the hair to revert to its natural texture, even if it rains of there is high humidity in the air. A person can have straighter and more manageable hair for a lengthy period.

Considerations

Although texturizers loosen the curl pattern in the hair, they don't totally straighten the hair. If an individual is looking for a straighter appearance, she should opt for a relaxer to completely straighten the hair. Because hair texturizers are chemical products that change the structure of the hair follicle, they produce permanent results. So the results will last until the hair that has been processed with the texturizer grows out.

Types

Two types of hair texturizers exist on today's market: no-lye and lye. Lye texturizers have a strong ingredient called sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide can produce highly effective results but can cause serious damage to the hair, especially if improperly applied. No-lye texturizers contains a mild ingredient called calcium hydroxide, which serves as a better choice for those with sensitive skin. Both types can produce satisfactory results if applied by a professional.

Warning

Because hair texturizers are chemical products, they should be used with caution. To achieve a straighter texture, hair texturizers alter the hair cuticle by breaking its protein and moisture bonds. To restore these bonds, a regimen of careful hair styling and restorative hair treatments is necessary to ensure the hair's health. In addition, regular hair trims help avoid split ends--a common signal of unhealthy hair. If a person is considering using a hair texturizer, she should consult a hair professional to see if it would be effective.

Application

Hair texturizers are meant to be kept in hair for a maximum of 10 minutes, or the texturizer can cause the hair to straighten entirely. The goal of a hair texturizer is to achieve a looser curl pattern that doesn't exceed the form of waves. Keeping a timer nearby during the application helps ensure that the user doesn't exceed the product's time limit described by the texturizer's manufacturer.

Use Carefree Curl On Locs

Carefree Curl Instant Moisturizer can add shine and moisture to your dreadlocks.

Care Free Curl is a well-known African American haircare product line made by Soft Sheen Carson. The line includes instant moisturizers and instant curl activators. Though these products are designed for curly hair and not for individuals with locs, the instant moisturizer can be useful for adding moisture to your locs without creating a wet or greasy look.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair before putting any products in it. With locs, products can easily build up and form a caked or flaky appearance. Towel dry your hair.

2. Pour a nickel-sized amount of the Care Free Curl Instant Moisturizer into your palm. Rub your hands together to evenly spread it onto both hands.

3. Rub three to four locs between your palms, to distribute the moisturizer. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until you have covered your entire head with the product.

4. Reapply the moisturizer as needed.

Haircuts For Westie Dogs

The Westie hair coat requires regular brushing and clipping.

The West Highland White Terrier, commonly referred to as a Westie, is a small, white dog that has a wiry, dense hair coat. Unchecked, this wiry coat can grow long and shaggy, jetting out in different directions from the dog's body. To avoid matting and shedding, owners often choose to groom the dog using clippers, cutting the hair to various, more convenient lengths. Haircuts for Westies not only facilitate easy coat care but help to keep the dog cooler and prevent long hair from blocking and irritating the eyes.

The West Pet Trim

Known as the "Westie Haircut," this cut is designed specifically for this breed. The cut crops the hair close to the body on the back and shoulders while leaving it slightly longer around the head, legs and ears. Hair also will be left long on the stomach and body but cut to a clean, universal length. The Westie haircut provides the characteristic fluffy, round-faced look that is associated with the breed. This cut is known as the "Pet Trim" because it is used for Westies that are not competing in dog shows.

Westie Show Cut

Westies that compete in dog shows must be "hand stripped," meaning their hair is not cut with clippers but is pulled out, in small batches, by hand. Hand stripping the Westie coat allows the hair to come in with its natural, coarse appearance and enhances growth in one direction. Hand stripping can be both tedious and time consuming, hence its use only in competition dogs.

Haircuts for Westies at Home

Westie owners can complete at-home hair cuts by purchasing a set of professional dog clippers. Always grooming in the direction of hair growth with sharp, clean blades, owners can ensure a haircut that fits the specifications of the desired shape and length. Owners should use scissors only to trim hair around the face and feet, never to remove mats as this may cut the dog's skin. Use caution to avoid injury to the Westie's skin and eyes when performing at-home haircuts.

Groomers

Using a professional groomer gives owners the opportunity to specify a cut. By using different clipper blades, groomers can produce a very short, shorn appearance or a "Puppy Cut," a softer, medium-length look. Discuss what works best for the specific Westie being groomed, identifying a haircut that establishes a comfortable level of maintenance.

Instructions For Relaxing Hair At Home

With the wide availability of home hair relaxer kits, you can easily relax or touch-up your hair at home. You may want to do this to save yourself time and money. Following the directions when relaxing hair at home is important so that you don't damage or break your hair in the process.

Preparation

Before you apply any chemicals to your hair, have all the necessary tools on hand. You'll need a relaxer kit (which should contain hand-protecting gloves), an old towel, a wide-tooth comb, plastic hair clips and a timer or clock. If you purchase a relaxer that's not in a prepackaged kit, make sure you also have neutralizing shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner.

Relaxing the back of your hair may be too difficult for you to try alone; have a friend or family member assist you with this area if needed.

Relax Hair

The process for relaxing virgin hair (or hair that's never been relaxed before) is slightly different from relaxing new growth hair. Begin by separating hair into four sections with the comb, using clips to hold hair out of the way. Start the timer or look at your clock, noting the time. Start at the back of the head and work with sections about 1 inch thick. Apply the relaxer as close to the roots as possible without getting it on the scalp. For virgin hair only, smooth the relaxer all the way to the ends of the hair--you'll repeat this over the entire head. For hair that has been previously relaxed, only apply the relaxer to new growth. Because you should wait about eight weeks between relaxer touch-ups, you should have about 1 inch of new growth to straighten.

Work quickly to apply the relaxer over the entire head or the entire touch-up area. Once the relaxer is in place, smooth with your glove covered hands to completely straighten the hair. Be careful not to get any relaxer on your scalp or skin. If you feel a burning sensation, even if the processing time isn't up yet, you should rinse the relaxer out of your hair. Otherwise, when the recommended time period is up, it's time to rinse the relaxer out.

After Relaxing

Rinse the relaxer out of your hair with warm water, making sure all traces of it are removed. Next, cleanse your hair with neutralizing shampoo. It's important to use a neutralizing shampoo because regular shampoo will not stop the relaxer process. Shampoo two to three times and then follow with a moisturizing conditioner, dry and style.
