Make a Tutu Hair Bow Holder

Little girls often have numerous hair bows, and they can easily get lost at home. Hair bow holders come in very handy, and a cute tutu shaped holder will delight little girls. They can be hung in either the bedroom or the bathroom, and they look very decorative, although they are also utilitarian.

Instructions

1. Fold a piece of tracing paper in half.

2. Draw the outline of half of a bodice from the neck to the hips on the fold in the tracing paper.

3. Cut it out and open it, revealing the full symmetrical bodice.

4. Cut out two bodices from the tracing paper pattern, making one the same size as the pattern and the other 1/2 inch bigger all around.

5. Trace the tracing paper pattern onto the foam board and cut out the bodice shape from the foam board.

6. Lay the foam board on top of the large piece of fabric and glue it all around the edges, folding up the edges of the fabric. You may need to cut little slits in the edges so that it curves around the foam board more easily. Make sure that there are no wrinkles in it. This is the front of the hair bow holder.

7. Glue the smaller piece of fabric on to the other side of the foam board, pulling it tight and smooth. Trim off any excess fabric. This is the back of the holder.

8. Cut tulle to fit the bottom of the bodice. Measure the width of the hip area and double it, cutting six pieces of tulle to this measurement. Decide how long you want the tutu to be, and make that the length of the tulle.

9. Put two layers of tulle together and gather it so that it fits across the hip area with about 1/2 inch extra on the sides. Glue it down on the front. Wrap the extra 1/2 inch to the back and glue it down.

10. Repeat with the remaining tulle, doing two layers at a time.

11. Cut five ribbons the length of the tulle. Glue them at the top of the tulle at equal distances from each other across the hip area, so that they hang down.

12. Cut another ribbon the width of the hip area, plus another inch. Glue it across the top of the tulle and ribbon edges, hiding the rough edges. Wrap the extra 1/2 inch on either side around to the back and glue it down, as well.

13. Make a few bows out of the same ribbon. You should have enough to cross the hip area, to cover any rough edges that might still be showing. Glue them in place. The number you need depends on the size of the bows.

14. Cut two lengths of ribbon at three inches. Fold them over to make a small loop and glue them to the front of the foam board at the shoulders, with the loops up above the board.

15. Make two more bows and glue them on top of the rough edges of the ribbon loops.

16. Hold the plastic hangar up to the shoulders of the foam board and cut the hangar so that it matches the width of the board. The hangar should now look like an inverted Y.

17.Wrap the hangar with the leftover ribbon so that none of the plastic is showing. Glue the ends so that the ribbon does not come free.

18. Put the hangar arms through the loops on the foam core and glue them in place.

Shampoo your hair two or three times to ensure that you have removed as much of the permanent chemicals as possible. If you have had your perm for more than 72 hours, however, the chemicals will have fully set and you will not be able to remove them with shampoo.

2. Condition your hair with a thick, deep conditioner. Leave it on for several minutes before rinsing it out. You may also want to try a leave-in conditioner. These products moisturize your hair and add weight to it.

3. Blow out your wet hair with a round styling brush. This forces the curls out of your hair until you get it wet again. You may also use a flat iron to straighten your hair once it is dry. Heated styling tools dry out and damage your hair, though, so try not to blow-dry or straighten your hair every day.

7. Wash jeans in water for five minutes more to remove any grit from the stones and any possible remaining chlorine.

8. Put the jeans in a high-powered drier until all dry. You now have completed the process of acid washing.

Instructions For Bleaching Hair

Bleaching your hair using at-home bleaching kits can cause a lot of stress on your locks, especially if you are changing your hair from a darker color to a light blonde. The harsh chemicals in hair bleach can cause hair to become thin and brittle, resulting in unwanted split ends and breakage. When bleaching your hair, it is important to follow a few simple instructions to get the results you want with as little damage as possible.

Choosing the Bleach

There are two different options when choosing at-home bleaching kits; liquid to liquid and powder to liquid. Liquid-to-liquid bleach typically comes packaged in a box and is usually found at drug stores. To use this bleach, two liquids are mixed together to activate the color. This type of bleach does not work well on very dark hair, and can often produce brassy results.

Powder-to-liquid bleach can either come in a kit, or you can purchase the items separately. This type of bleach allows you to choose the strength of the peroxide developer, which comes in liquid or cream form. Choose from 10, 20 or 30 volume, depending on how dark your hair is. For example, if you have dark blonde hair and you want to lighten it a few shades, try using the lowest-strength developer at 10 volume. For dark brown to black hair, try using 30 or even 40 volume. Forty volume is typically not used to bleach the entire head, as it can cause burns on the scalp, but is used primarily for highlights and frosting. The bleach will either be included in the kit, or you can purchase bleach powder packets separately. The good thing about buying developer and bleach packets separately is that you can use the developer again and again, unlike a single-use bleach kit.

Strand Test

Before applying the bleach mixture to your entire head, it is most important to conduct a strand test. This will tell you how long the bleach will take to lighten your hair to the desired color, and if a second application is necessary. For very dark hair, two applications over a period of time may be necessary. The purpose of a strand test is to avoid over-bleaching.

To conduct a strand test, cut a few strands of hair close to the root in an area that isn't noticeable, such as the back of your head. Tie a small knot to keep the strands together, or use a tiny rubber band.
