Make A Tutu Hair Bow Holder

Make a Tutu Hair Bow Holder

Little girls often have numerous hair bows, and they can easily get lost at home. Hair bow holders come in very handy, and a cute tutu shaped holder will delight little girls. They can be hung in either the bedroom or the bathroom, and they look very decorative, although they are also utilitarian.

Instructions

1. Fold a piece of tracing paper in half.

2. Draw the outline of half of a bodice from the neck to the hips on the fold in the tracing paper.

3. Cut it out and open it, revealing the full symmetrical bodice.

4. Cut out two bodices from the tracing paper pattern, making one the same size as the pattern and the other 1/2 inch bigger all around.

5. Trace the tracing paper pattern onto the foam board and cut out the bodice shape from the foam board.

6. Lay the foam board on top of the large piece of fabric and glue it all around the edges, folding up the edges of the fabric. You may need to cut little slits in the edges so that it curves around the foam board more easily. Make sure that there are no wrinkles in it. This is the front of the hair bow holder.

7. Glue the smaller piece of fabric on to the other side of the foam board, pulling it tight and smooth. Trim off any excess fabric. This is the back of the holder.

8. Cut tulle to fit the bottom of the bodice. Measure the width of the hip area and double it, cutting six pieces of tulle to this measurement. Decide how long you want the tutu to be, and make that the length of the tulle.

9. Put two layers of tulle together and gather it so that it fits across the hip area with about 1/2 inch extra on the sides. Glue it down on the front. Wrap the extra 1/2 inch to the back and glue it down.

10. Repeat with the remaining tulle, doing two layers at a time.

11. Cut five ribbons the length of the tulle. Glue them at the top of the tulle at equal distances from each other across the hip area, so that they hang down.

12. Cut another ribbon the width of the hip area, plus another inch. Glue it across the top of the tulle and ribbon edges, hiding the rough edges. Wrap the extra 1/2 inch on either side around to the back and glue it down, as well.

13. Make a few bows out of the same ribbon. You should have enough to cross the hip area, to cover any rough edges that might still be showing. Glue them in place. The number you need depends on the size of the bows.

14. Cut two lengths of ribbon at three inches. Fold them over to make a small loop and glue them to the front of the foam board at the shoulders, with the loops up above the board.

15. Make two more bows and glue them on top of the rough edges of the ribbon loops.

16. Hold the plastic hangar up to the shoulders of the foam board and cut the hangar so that it matches the width of the board. The hangar should now look like an inverted Y.

17.Wrap the hangar with the leftover ribbon so that none of the plastic is showing. Glue the ends so that the ribbon does not come free.

18. Put the hangar arms through the loops on the foam core and glue them in place.

Get Rid Of A Perm At Home

Blow-drying your hair is a way to temporarily reverse a bad perm.

Hence its name, a perm is meant to be permanent, at least until your hair grows out. If you have recently permed your hair and are unhappy with the results, there are a few tricks to can try to reverse the perm. Although the only true way to eliminate a perm is to cut off the chemically treated hair, this is often not an option. You may not be able to completely get rid of your perm at home, but there are quite a few ways to tame it and get your hair back to its normal consistency.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair. If you shampoo your hair within the first 72 hours of getting a perm, you may be able to wash out some of the chemicals. Shampoo your hair two or three times to ensure that you have removed as much of the permanent chemicals as possible. If you have had your perm for more than 72 hours, however, the chemicals will have fully set and you will not be able to remove them with shampoo.

2. Condition your hair with a thick, deep conditioner. Leave it on for several minutes before rinsing it out. You may also want to try a leave-in conditioner. These products moisturize your hair and add weight to it.

3. Blow out your wet hair with a round styling brush. This forces the curls out of your hair until you get it wet again. You may also use a flat iron to straighten your hair once it is dry. Heated styling tools dry out and damage your hair, though, so try not to blow-dry or straighten your hair every day.

Hairstyles For 40ish Women

Try a new hairstyle as you become 40-ish.

As women age, makeup and hair often change. Hair can become more dry and brittle as you get older. Not only does personal style adapt with age, but your facial structure changes too. Hairstyles for 40-ish women should be flattering and age appropriate -- but not matronly.

Short and Wavy

A short and wavy hairstyle looks sassy on a 40-ish woman. It can be styled professionally during the day and more daring during the evening. The hair is cut short so that it is just a bit longer than a pixie cut. The hair should be left longer, layered and textured. That allows the hair to be styled in waves. Scrunch the waves and wear the style a bit messy for everyday hair.

Long Bob

A long bob is flattering on women of any age. In this hairstyle, the length is about 1 inch above shoulder-length. Your hair is cut so that it is slightly shorter in the back and angles to the front. Add side-swept bangs to frame your face. A long bob is a versatile hairstyle for 40-ish women as it looks lovely worn either straight or curly.

Shoulder-Length

A layered, shoulder-length hairstyle is age-appropriate for women over 40. The layers create shape and style and are necessary for a lift at the crown. Use either a flat iron or curling iron to style this cut. The shoulder-length hairstyle is long enough to pull into a low ponytail as well -- a ponytail might add a youthful element without trying too hard.

Angled

A short, angled hairstyle works well for both thick or fine hair. Your hair is kept short in the back and on the sides. The angled layers should be razored and given texture using styling wax. For a woman in her 40s, this short, angled cut is easy to wash and style.

Hairstyle Tips For Letting Hair Grow Out

Long, luscious hair is the reward for your patience.

Growing out your hair is not a difficult task. It does not require thousands of dollars worth of hair care products or fancy treatments. It simply requires time and the patience to wait for the result you want. To look good during the growing out process, you'll need to keep adapting your hairstyle to accommodate the different lengths.

Hair-Growing Tips

Go to the salon for a special 'do that flatters your new length.

Keep your hair healthy to help it grow faster and make it beautiful.

1. Conditioning is vital because shampoo strips hair of its natural oils. Conditioner puts some oils back into your scalp and hair and prevents dry, itchy skin, which can drive you to scratch your scalp and possibly cause bald spots.

2. Get your hair trimmed. Trimming your hair even by centimeters will prevent split ends, keeping it healthy and attractive while it grows out.

3. Eat healthy food and keep fit--hair reflects poor nutrition and overall poor health.

4. Do not overbrush your hair.

5. Use your hairdryer, straightener and curling iron less. Overheating your hair causes split ends and damaged follicles. On the same theme, use lukewarm water instead of steaming hot water when you shampoo.

6. Don't use constricting hair bands, hats or knots in or on your hair.

Hairstyles

Schedule a salon consultation to ask a hair professional for tips on cuts and styles as your hair reaches each new distinct stage of its growth. Do your own research, as well, browsing through "look books" that cover waiting area tables at all salons. These books and style magazine are full of ideas for hair of all lengths and they're updated every season.

Hair Facts

1. On average, head hair grows about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch every month. This rate does not change morning, noon or night.

2. Cutting your hair will not make it grow faster.

3. Beauty products do not help hair grow but they help keep hair healthy, which does help it grow well and look good in the process.

Chignon Wedding Hairstyles

An updo sets an elegant tone.

A chignon hairstyle is an all-up hairdo typically seen in formal occasions such as weddings, proms and even on the red carpet in Hollywood. While a bun is the typical technique used for pulling the hair up off the neck, this can be adapted to suit many purposes. A chignon hairstyle can be transformed to match the style of your wedding, from classic to romantic to modern.

High Bun

A high bun is a classic and elegant hair style that shows off your neckline and makes you appear longer and leaner, elongating your frame. The bun can be composed of a sleek and modern twisting of the hair in a circle around the crown of the head for a look of simple elegance. For a more intricate and styled look, pull the hair into a high ponytail. Curl the loose hair in small sections using a curling iron. Tuck each curl up into the crown of your head using bobby pins. Continue tucking in the curls until all the pieces of hair are secured in the bun. For an added touch of bridal beauty, insert a veil underneath the bun so it cascades down your back, or place a tiara at the front of the bun.

Low Bun

Another elegant and feminine choice for a chignon wedding hairstyle is a low bun. This style is easier to maneuver if you want the veil to cover your hair. The bun can be at the center of the nape of your neck or for an asymmetrical and more modern twist, pulled to one side. Tie the hair back into a low pony tail either in the center or to the side, depending on your preference. Curl the hair and tuck it in to form the bun. Add the veil to the top of your head. For a vintage look, instead of a veil, place a flower in your hair over one ear or at the top of the bun.

Messy Bun

For a modern and daring look, a slightly disheveled and loose bun can achieve sophistication with a dash of couture style. The bun can be either pulled high or left low. The difference between this style and the styles above is that the hair will not be tucked neatly and cleanly into the bun. The hair can still be curled or remain straight, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. A loose and curly bun will have a more romantic effect while a messy bun with straight hair is more cutting edge. Leave the ends of hair in the bun unsecured so they display outwards, creating rough lines to frame your face. This look should be complemented by a modern or couture wedding dress, to pull the ensemble together.

Luau Bridal Shower Ideas

Hula dancers in Hawaii

Themed-bridal showers make this special occasion even more memorable for the bride-to-be and her guests. Instead of the traditional games and decorations, think of using a luau theme for the party, which works especially well if the bride and groom are going to Hawaii on their honeymoon.

Decorations

Available at specialty party stores, Hawaii-themed decorations are easy to find. If the weather permits, stage an outdoor bridal shower complete with tiki torches and tropical items such as vases of tropical flowers with sand around them for the table centerpieces. Have Hawaiian music playing in the background and Hawaiian food available for sampling. Buffet style would work well for this event and also save you money. Do not forget to serve mai tais.

Dress

On the invitations, ask guests to dress in Hawaiian-style clothing. This can include Hawaiian shirts, shorts or grass skirts. This will add to the overall mood of the shower. When guests arrive, gift them with a lei and flower to wear over their ear. Have bobby pins available so all guests can pin the flower to their hair. If a guest is married, the flower goes over her left ear; if she is single, it goes over the right (similar to a wedding ring on the left finger).

Games

Every bridal shower, whether you like them or not, has games, so make them luau-themed as well. If your area has one, hire a hula teacher. You can find them under "dance instruction" in the yellow pages or search online. The teacher can instruct the guests on simple hula techniques and teach a beginner's level dance. You can even ask the bride if she would like to learn a special dance for her wedding to dance to her groom.

Acid Wash Clothes

Acid Wash Clothes

Acid wash is a cool and pretty way of making a fabric different from average jeans. It was started in the mid-'80s by the Italian company Rifle Jeans, and it has grown in popularity over time. It remains an active style for jean designers.

You can get in on the action with any pair of jeans you may have. Acid-washed jeans can be created in only a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Pumice stones will play an important part of the dying process. Beauty stores, as well as sites like eBay, carry pumice stones.

2. Soak the pumice stones in chlorine. Ask a professional who handles chemicals to inform you of the proper way of handling and disposing of this potent chemical.

3. Load the jeans and the stones into an industrial washer, making sure it is safe for such an endeavor. You also want to be avoid the fumes, and warn others of the same, when acid washing jeans.

4. Check on the jeans after 15 minutes. The typical time it takes is 25 minutes, but you want to check to make sure. You don't want to go too far in either direction with acid washing. Too little can make a fabric look awful, and over-doing it can destroy a great pair of jeans.

5. Keep checking every 10 minutes after that for just the right look.

6. Once the jeans are dyed to perfection, transfer them to another machine, and add "antichlor," sodium bisulfite, to the water they are washed with. Leave them washing for five minutes in this process. This will remove any remaining chlorine.

7. Wash jeans in water for five minutes more to remove any grit from the stones and any possible remaining chlorine.

8. Put the jeans in a high-powered drier until all dry. You now have completed the process of acid washing.

About Kevin Murphy

Kevin Murphy is best known for its hair products.

Kevin Murphy is a line of hair care products designed for use by beauty professionals only. The Australian stylist created this line because he was unhappy with the mainstream hair products available to him. Kevin Murphy products range from shampoos to conditioners to styling products for every type of hair.

Biography

Kevin Murphy is an Australian hair stylist whom Vogue cites as creating the "beach hair" look. Born in Melbourne, Murphy first apprenticed in a salon in Queensland and then trained at Vidal Sasoon in London. Murphy has worked with numerous celebrities and made his name as an editorial writer for high-end fashion and hair magazines. Murphy also works frequently with movie stars. He was tapped by director and fellow Australian Baz Luhrmann to style the hair for Moulin Rouge! and has worked with stars including Cate Blanchett and Enrique Igelsias.

Philosophy

Kevin Murphy hair products are designed to provide performance, strength and longevity for the ever changing world of hair fashion. Using similar philosophies as those that go into skin care, Kevin Murphy products use as many all natural ingredients as possible. Made from pure essential oils, natural antioxidants and natural, plant-based extracts, most of Kevin Murphy's products come from sustainable and renewable resources. None of his products contain sulphate and paraben, chemicals typically found in mainstream cosmetics.

Products

The Fresh Hair Dry Cleaning Spray is one of Murphy's best known products. This spray cleans your hair and adds texture without the need to wash it. Other popular products are the Hydrate Me Wash and Hydrate Me Rinse, a shampoo and conditioner duo. Designed for dry hair, this combination helps restore moisture to dessicated hair. These products are novel because they contain ingredients that promote collagen and elastin, which have only been used in skin care products before.

Presentations

If you are interested in learning from Kevin Murphy, attend one of his worldwide events. For example, Murphy presented in Copenhagen in 2011. This event included a Kevin Murphy catwalk show with 18 models, a three course dinner with drinks and after party. However, attending one of these events can be quite costly, entrance to the Copenhagen event cost 200 euros. Following the event, Murphy hosted a DJ party. Stylists in Australia can visit one of Murphy's numerous Session Salons, found in many major cities in Australia.

A perfect hairstyle truly enhances a girl's beauty and confidence. Punk hairstyle is the most popular teens hairstyle. Types of Punk Hairstyles
The best part of this girl punk hairstyle is that it can be worn by everybody. At the same time, with slight changes according to the wish of the wearer, it can give a totally new look. Let us know more about some of the punk hairstyles:

Skate Punk Style: This punk hairstyle is generally a short hairstyle where the hair is trimmed unevenly and the ends of the hair are dyed with different colors. This punk hairstyle is known to give a cute and naughty look. Kelly Osbourne was the one who made this hairstyle famous.

Death or Horror Punk Hairstyle: This hairstyle resembles a Gothic look. Firstly the hair is dyed in either black or black-blue colors and later spiked in Mohawk style or kept in prom punk hairstyle.

Pop Punk Hairstyle: This is one of the girl punk hairstyles that is mostly tried by the girls wanting to keep long hair. Here, half the hair is dyed, in different light or neon colors. This hairstyle is famous because of celebrity Avril Lavigne.

Original Punk Hairstyle: This is the most adventurous hairstyle tried in 1980s'. In this hairstyle, by using gel, the entire hair is spiked in center and dyed in mostly violet or crimson colors. Later, the hair is dyed by vibrant purple or pink colors.

Mohawk: This hairstyle is also known as Mohican hairstyle where both sides of the head are shaved and a strip of hair is left in the center. Usually, the hair at the top is spiked and also dyed with different colors. Mohawk hairstyle is popular among men also. A good example of this famous celebrity haircut is the soccer player David Beckham. One of the popular Mohawk hairstyles for girls is called Chelsea Mohawk that includes bangs in front of the face. The Chelsea-Hawk is the style of Mohawk most often worn by girls. This style is virtually the same as a traditional Mohawk but bangs are left in the front to frame the face. The other popular Mohawk types are:
Dread Hawk: Here, the dreadlocks are created by styling the hair by pulling it back.
Liberty Spikes: Here the spikes are styled from the center of the head. These trendy hairstyle spikes resemble that of the statue of Liberty.
Reverse Mohawk: Here, the hair is shaved from the center of the head. The strips of hair are left on both sides of the head.
Side Hawk: This punk hairstyle creates a complete different look. Here, the hair at the back portion is shaved and spikes are created from the hair strip from one end of the ear to other.
Faux Hawk: Also called Fohawk, this is certainly the latest version of Mohawk hairstyle. Here, the sides are given shorter cut and the hair is allowed to grow longer in the middle of the head. Women can easily create different hairstyle by tying ponytails. Also, you can try different shapes with the use of gel or wax. This hairstyle is popular among the business class or working class as well as with the teens.
Bihawk: This is also a variation of Mohawk hairstyle. Here, two Mohawks are allowed to grow and are separated by with shaved center lines in between and on the sides.
Trihawk: This hairstyle is similar to Bihawk. Here, three hair strips are allowed to grow and they are separated in between by shaved portions.
Fanned Mohawk: This hairstyle is extremely popular variation where long hair strips in the center of the head are spiked and it looks like a fan. You can vary this hairstyle and opt for a curly fanned Mohawk or braided fanned Mohawk. But this hairstyle is extremely difficult to maintain.

Instructions For Bleaching Hair

Bleaching your hair using at-home bleaching kits can cause a lot of stress on your locks, especially if you are changing your hair from a darker color to a light blonde. The harsh chemicals in hair bleach can cause hair to become thin and brittle, resulting in unwanted split ends and breakage. When bleaching your hair, it is important to follow a few simple instructions to get the results you want with as little damage as possible.

Choosing the Bleach

There are two different options when choosing at-home bleaching kits; liquid to liquid and powder to liquid. Liquid-to-liquid bleach typically comes packaged in a box and is usually found at drug stores. To use this bleach, two liquids are mixed together to activate the color. This type of bleach does not work well on very dark hair, and can often produce brassy results.

Powder-to-liquid bleach can either come in a kit, or you can purchase the items separately. This type of bleach allows you to choose the strength of the peroxide developer, which comes in liquid or cream form. Choose from 10, 20 or 30 volume, depending on how dark your hair is. For example, if you have dark blonde hair and you want to lighten it a few shades, try using the lowest-strength developer at 10 volume. For dark brown to black hair, try using 30 or even 40 volume. Forty volume is typically not used to bleach the entire head, as it can cause burns on the scalp, but is used primarily for highlights and frosting. The bleach will either be included in the kit, or you can purchase bleach powder packets separately. The good thing about buying developer and bleach packets separately is that you can use the developer again and again, unlike a single-use bleach kit.

Strand Test

Before applying the bleach mixture to your entire head, it is most important to conduct a strand test. This will tell you how long the bleach will take to lighten your hair to the desired color, and if a second application is necessary. For very dark hair, two applications over a period of time may be necessary. The purpose of a strand test is to avoid over-bleaching.

To conduct a strand test, cut a few strands of hair close to the root in an area that isn't noticeable, such as the back of your head. Tie a small knot to keep the strands together, or use a tiny rubber band. Mix a small amount of bleach and developer together into a nonmetallic bowl and place the hair into the mixture, coating it entirely. Every five minutes, wipe the bleach mixture off the hair to check the progress. If the hair isn't light enough, apply more bleach and continue checking every five minutes until the desired color is attained.

Bleaching

Now that you have conducted a strand test, you should know how long the bleach will need to set in your hair. One of the easiest ways to apply bleach is by using a tint brush, which will allow you to get as close to the root as possible without touching your scalp. It is important that your hair is unwashed, with no styling products in it. The oils in dirtier hair help to protect the scalp from the harsh chemicals of the bleach.

Part your hair into four large sections using a comb, and clip the sections. This will allow you to apply the bleach evenly throughout your head. Blindly applying bleach to your hair can result in spotty, uneven results. Then apply the bleach from top to the bottom with the tint brush, leaving about an eighth of an inch of space from the root. If you have very long hair, you may need a friend to help you. It is important to work quickly. The bleach will begin lightening immediately, and if you apply too slowly, you may end up with uneven results. Leave the product in for the amount of time taken from your strand test. It is still recommended to check on the lightness of your hair every five minutes.

You will notice your hair changing a few different colors. First your hair will turn an orangey-red color, then lighten to a pale yellow, then light blonde. If you feel that the end result looks too brassy or yellow, try using a blue or purple toner to neutralize the color.

Top Hair Products For Perm Damage

The right products can help with a bad perm.

Permanent hair waves, or perms, are harsh chemical processes that break disulfide bonds, the sulfur molecules that link proteins to form hair's structure. These proteins, called keratin, compose most of the hair fiber. With the help of rods, perms then reconstruct keratin bonds following a curly, wavy or spiral shape. Alkaline perms, the most popular, use ammonium thioglycolate as the reduction agent to break the hair's bonds, then follow it with a neutralizer made of hydrogen peroxide to create new disulfide bonds in the hair's keratin. Other perms use thermal heat in addition to chemicals. Chemicals alone are enough to damage the hair and can severely traumatize it if used incorrectly, leaving it brittle, dry and frizzy. Healthy hair typically holds a perm better than damaged hair, so it's important to care for hair with the right products if you want to get the most out of the process.

Essential oils

Hot-oil treatments with natural essential oils help to replenish hair's lost moisture from perming. Jojoba, olive, tea tree, rosemary and coconut oils are the most commonly used oils for treating scalp and hair problems throughout history, and are still used in many hair-care products today. They are high in vitamin E and fatty acids, which are essential for hair health and moisture retention. Opt for 100 percent pure essential oil treatments over commercial hot oil treatments, which include additional synthetic chemicals such as fragrance. Most of these oils are incapable of penetrating deep into the hair shaft and just sit on top of the hair's cuticle in an attempt to mask the hair's rough appearance, according to beauty expert Diana Dudas for Super-Hair.net.

Clarifying Shampoos

Calrifying shampoos, also known as deep-cleansing shampoos, contain surfectants, which are cleansing agents that work to remove residues from the hair's surface. Sodium lauryl sulfate is a common detergent in shampoos, regular and clarifying, that rids the hair of product buildup. Because clarifying shampoos contain more cleansing than conditioning ingredients, their use should be kept to a minimum, typically two to four times a month, rather than daily. They serve two major purposes for permed hair: removing product buildup that keeps hair from absorbing beneficial moisture from water and conditioners and removing residue that can weigh down the curls, making them limp and dull.

Deep Conditioners

Deep conditioners penetrate deep into the hair's cortex to improve the hair's natural structure within. Deep conditioning or repair treatments are creamy hydrating formulas that work best when left on the hair for several minutes, three to 30, depending on the formula. For optimal penetration, cover the hair in a warm towel or use a shower cap and apply direct heat from a hair-dryer to open up the hair for better absorption. Like clarifying, deep conditioning is not a daily treatment, because it is so rich it can weigh down the hair. You can use it after the clarifying shampoo.

Nutrient-Rich Formulas

For daily shampooing, conditioning and styling, choose products that contain botanicals and vitamins beneficial to hair, such as nettles, soy protein, aloe and essential oils for added vitamins and nutrients. Shampoos should be gentle and conditioning. Hair sprays, gels, pomades, mousse and serums should be used minimally and should also contain these healthy nutrients. Products with UV protection also protect hair from further environmental damage.

Do Pinup Curls

The retro look of pin-up curls looks even more snazzy when mixed with modern attire.

Whether or not you have naturally curly hair, you have probably marveled at the clean stylish look of the pin-up curls from the 1940s and 1950s. This retro look has resurfaced and you might be glad to know that they are quite simple to create. Not only are pin-curls elegant and classy, they are much more comfortable to sleep on than typical rollers and you will not have damage your hair with a hot curling iron.

Instructions

1. Comb your hair thoroughly to eliminate knots and tangles.

2. Create a defined part in your hair wherever you desire.

3. Begin with a 1-inch section or smaller if you prefer a smaller curl. Spray the section with water and comb it if necessary.

4. Twist the section of hair as you wrap it around the index finger of your free hand. Wrap the curl around your finger until you reach the end. Hold the curl in place and carefully remove your finger.

5. Tuck the end of the section of hair inside the curl and secure it with one or more bobby pins.

6. Repeat the process, sectioning your hair in a regular pattern. Once all of your hair has been pinned into curls, spray your entire head with hairspray.

7. Ensure that the curls are very secure if you plan to sleep with them in. Otherwise, dry the curls with a hair dryer until they are completely dry.

8. Remove the bobby pins from the curls one at a time. Spray your hair with hairspray once the pins have been removed.

Make Finger Waves

Finger waves were popular during the 1920s and 1930s.

Women who are tired of tight, spiral curls should look no further than finger waves. The name refers to a loose style of hair curls that was popular during the 1920s and 1930s. Be it for a costume party or if you are craving change, this hairstyle need not require a trip to the salon. Women who wish to channel old Hollywood glamor can create finger waves at home with the help of several basic hair-styling tools and products.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair as you normally would. Wait 10 to 15 minutes, until the hair is wet but no longer dripping. Part your hair to the side.

2. Apply a generous coat of gel and comb it throughout your hair.

3. Place your middle finger across your hair, next to the part. Your fingertip should be touching the top of your forehead.

4. Press the comb against the side of your finger. Drag the comb's teeth through a 1-inch section of hair sideways along your finger. You should see a wave beginning to form.

5. Place the comb flat against your scalp without lifting the comb from the hair.

6. Place your index finger next to your middle finger. Close the two fingers together and apply pressure to the head in order to form a ridge.

7. Drag the comb through your hair again but in the opposite direction than before. At this point the ridge should be visible and a wave should be running through your hair.

8. Create another wave, ideally 1 or 1 1/2 inches away from the first wave. Continue to do so until the waves are running across your head.

9. Gently comb through the waves once they have dried. Mist your hair with a holding spray to set the style.

Loosen Curls In Wavy Hair

Loosen Curls in Wavy Hair

Although there are a lot of styling products that will reduce the curl in wavy hair, many of them can damage the hair (for example, hair relaxers can damage the hair shafts, hair follicles and even the scalp). Instead of using harsh styling products to get loose waves rather than curls, try blowing out your hair. With a hair dryer, a brush and a few products, you can have the large waves you've been wanting.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair as normal. Spray a detangling spray into your hair right when you get out of the shower.

2. Towel dry your hair until it is slightly damp. Spray your hair with a heat-resistant hair spray. This will help protect your hair from the heat of the hair dryer.

3. Begin drying your hair. Start by applying the heat to your roots to help smooth down any fly-aways.

4. Divide your hair in half, pulling the top section of your hair on top of your head. Use a hair clip to secure the hair.

5. Take a small section of hair from the bottom portion. Place the large brush underneath the section. Roll the hair completely through the brush. Gently, pull the brush downward while applying the heat from the dryer to the hair. Once the brush reaches the ends of the first little section, roll the brush back up through the hair. Do this until that one section is dried.

6. Repeat Step 5 for the rest of the bottom section of hair. When finished, unclip the top section of hair and repeat Step 5 again.

7. Apply some hairspray to your dried hair to keep it wavy.

Tips On Making Prom Dresses Look Perfect

It is easy to be overwhelmed with choices; fashionable prom dresses range from sleek form-fitting long fashions, flirty short dresses and traditional tea-length styles. Prom dresses are available in many styles, colors and popular metallic shades, so that even the most fashion forward girl can have a hard time deciding what to wear. A little planning beforehand can ensure you of a prom night with no unforeseen problems or last-minute stress outs. Follow theses easy tips to guarantee prom perfection.

Accessorize Appropriately with Purses and Jewelry

A stylish purse is not only a chic addition to your prom outfit, it also serves to keep all of your essentials with you. The clutch is the most popular purse style for formal events. While shopping, remember to buy a purse large enough to hold your crucial items: your I.D., extra cash, cell phone, prom tickets, lipstick and gum.

Rhinestones convey a look of elegance, which is what makes them the most popular choice for prom night jewelry. If your dress or shoes contain rhinestones, remember to look for rhinestone jewelry in the same size and shape to avoid clashing. Before choosing your jewelry, be sure to decide on your hairstyle for the big night to ensure a perfectly pulled together look.

Add Florals

Stylists and florists agree--flowers worn in your hair are still widely popular for proms and weddings. Flowers add a playful elegance to your hairstyle and can easily transform a simple hairstyle into an adorable look.

Achieve this trendy look with either a single bold flower or a cluster of delicate blooms. In general, wear larger blossoms with unadorned dress styles and smaller ones with more flashy dresses. Your hairstylist should be able to help you create the look you want to achieve.

Wear the Right Bra

In general a strapless prom dress requires a strapless bra to supplement it. If you have a larger chest, search for a bra that includes boning in the band and the sides of the cups. This will help support your breasts without the need for shoulder straps. Bras with adhesive strips are another option to keep the cups in place.

If you are wearing a backless prom dress, it is often tricky to find the right bra without ruining the image of your naked back. The best option is to look for a strapless and band-less bra. Be sure that it contains adhesive tabs on the cup linings to keep the cups in place and secure.

If you're wearing a halter dress, fortunately many bras come with multiway straps that can be adjusted to fit underneath a variety of top styles. The bra straps should be thin enough to slide under the straps of your dress for a completely hidden look.

What Is Wave Nouveau

A wave nouveau, also known as a cold wave, is a permanent-wave hairstyle based on the active ingredient sodium thioglycolate, also known as thio. The wave nouveau is named for SoftSheen Carson's product line bearing the same name: Wave Nouveau Coiffure.

Features

Wave nouveau has a low, slightly alkaline pH of 9 to 9.6 and adds a soft wave or curl to the hair.

Process

The wave nouveau process involves shampooing, sectioning, rodding, and finally, applying a sodium thioglycolate chemical solution on the hair. A neutralizer is then applied, and the hair is conditioned.

Coloring

SoftSheen Carson recommends that color be applied only after a careful assessment of the hair's condition by a professional. The hair should be properly conditioned, and the color service should take place no sooner than two weeks after the wave nouveau chemical service.

Considerations

Wave nouveau and relaxers are incompatible processes. You must cut any hair that has been previously relaxed before applying a wave nouveau to the hair, and vice versa. Otherwise, irreparable chemical damage and hair loss can occur.

Warning

As with most chemical treatments, a wave nouveau should be applied by a licensed, professional stylist.

Tips On Growing Out Relaxed Hair

Growing out your natural hair can be a good choice if you desire to abandon the use of harsh chemical relaxers on your hair, or simply wish to return to your own real texture again. Whatever the reason, growing out relaxed hair proves to be difficult for many because not only is it a physical challenge, it can also be emotionally trying. It has become easier over the years to grow out your relaxed hair because now you can wear extensions, braids, or even a stylish short cut to provide a subtle camouflage.

Starting Out

Before you allow your hair to get too much new growth, you must decide why you want natural hair again. Whatever your reason, make sure you can stick with this decision. Once you firmly believe you are committed to the process, you can simply cut off all the relaxed hair from your head. This is sometimes referred to as the "Big Chop". This process is rather drastic and sudden for many people. It can wreck emotional havoc because (depending on the amount of new growth) suddenly you have no processed hair. A smoother alternative is to allow your new growth to grow out and overtake the relaxed hair.

Texture Care

When you allow your new growth to coincide with your relaxed ends, you have to work with two different textures. Your relaxed ends are weaker than your new growth due to chemical processing, which has broken down the protein in the ends. As for the new growth, this section thirsts for moisture. Most importantly, the point where the new growth and the relaxed portion begins (the line of demarcation) is the weakest area of the hair strand. Here your hair strand is more susceptible to increased breakage. It is imperative that moisture and protein be applied to the hair strands, especially at this point, every week.

Consistency/Measuring

The journey to achieving natural hair requires perseverance. It will be tempting to revert to relaxed hair because it is the generally the standard in the U.S. for African-American women. It takes a strong individual to not be ashamed of keeping his or her natural hair, despite society's subtle objections. Keep a photo journal of your progress by measuring your new growth at different intervals, such as monthly. With routine maintenance and confidence in your actions, you will successfully return to your natural roots.

Tips On A New Haircut For Your Face Shape

Bangs can help soften the angles of a square face.

To find a haircut that will suit you, it is important to take your face shape into consideration. There are a range of different face types including oval, round, square, oblong, triangle, diamond and heart-shaped. With the help of a suitable haircut, each face shape can be made to look its best by working to soften harsh or overbearing angles and also aiming to balance out facial features.

Round Face

The round face is widest at the cheeks and ears, with a rounded chin and forehead. To suit this face shape, the hair should be cut either just above or below the jawline to break up the round shape. A side part combined with sweeping or wispy bangs can be a flattering style that will also aid in slimming the appearance of the face. Layers can be used to add volume at the crown, which can add height, also making the face appear longer and narrower.

Square Face

The square face has a square, angular jaw and generally an equally angular hairline. This shape will benefit from a haircut with wispy bangs and lots of layering around the face, which will soften the angles of the jaw and forehead. Wavy or curly hair will generally suit this face shape and add softness. Long, straight hairstyles should be avoided as this will accentuate the harsh angles of the face.

Oblong Face

The oblong face is generally long with a forehead and chin of equal length. This face shape suits a center part, although the hair should always be cut above the shoulders to avoid lengthening the appearance of the face. Bangs can be used to shorten the face. Layered haircuts with lots of volume around the sides of the face can create a flattering style.

Heart-Shaped Face

The heart-shaped face is widest at the forehead, tapering down to a narrow chin. This face shape suits a bob haircut that will add volume to the jawline and take the emphasis away from the forehead. Wispy and sweeping bangs from a side part will also flatter this face shape, which will take the emphasis away from the forehead and draw more attention to the striking bone structure of the cheeks.

Oval Face

The oval face is slightly narrower at the jaw than at the forehead, often with a softly rounded hairline. Oval is the most versatile face shape, as it can be successfully combined with a wide variety of different haircuts both long and short.

Triangle Face

The triangle face shape is broadest at the jawline, growing narrower at the temples. This face can suit both short and long haircuts. A short haircut should incorporate layering toward the top of the head to add volume and to balance out the lower half of the face. The cut should taper towards the chin to avoid adding volume to the widest part of the face. A long hairstyle will look flattering with soft waves and layering to soften the jawline. For all styles the hair should be parted in the center or just off center. Avoid bangs and keep hair off the forehead as this draws the eye up to the eyes rather than down to the jaw.

Diamond Face

A diamond face shape is the most balanced. It is widest at the cheekbones and equally narrow at the forehead and jaw. This face shape will suit almost any style. Avoid covering the face with the hair to make the most of the striking bone structure. Short hairstyles should incorporate volume around the nape of the neck to balance out the tapering jaw.

Stop The Bleeding If You Trim Your Dog'S Toenails Too Short

Use appropriate scissors when cutting a dog's toenails.

If you own a dog and have ever clipped its toenails, you may have encountered one or more bleeding caused by cutting them too short. This is typical of dog's toenails if the quick of the nail is cut. The quick is a blood vessel in the toenail that is often hard to see, especially with dogs that have dark-colored nails.

Instructions

1. Clean the nails. As soon as you notice bleeding, clean the wound with mild soap. Cut a small sliver of soap off of the bar and hold it against the bleeding nail until the bleeding stops. This stops the bleeding, cleans the wound and helps prevent bacteria build up. Use a mild soap such as Ivory because other soaps may cause stinging.

2. Place the foot under water. If you do not have soap, hold the dog's foot under running warm water for several minutes. Remove the foot from water and hold a warm cloth on the foot using slight pressure.

3. Use a styptic pencil. A styptic pencil is designed to stop small wounds from bleeding and can be purchased at pharmacies and many discount stores. Dip the pencil in water and rub it across the wound to help the blood coagulate.

4. Make a paste. Mix flour and water together to form a thick paste and apply it to the wound using a small cotton swab. Let the paste remain on the foot for a few minutes before rinsing it off. You can also use corn starch and baking soda instead of flour. If the bleeding persists, place several layers of paste on the dog's nails and leave it on for several minutes.

Curl Hair Without Chemicals

Curl Hair Without Chemicals

Getting a few curls in your hair is pretty easy these days with many options available, starting from either wet or dry hair. See what works best for your texture and style of hair to curl your hair without chemicals. Here are tips.

Instructions

1. Start by adding a styling product such as a gel or mousse to your hair.

2. Dry your hair using a brush with a metal core. Gently pull your hair through the brush to the ends, and roll it as far as you'd like it to curl. The heat from the hairdryer will heat the metal core and curl your hair without chemicals. Switch your hairdryer to the cool setting to further lock the curl in place.

3. Use a curling iron to add some curl to your hair. Allow the curling iron to heat for a few minutes before use, per the manufacturer's instructions. Clamp your dry hair in the iron and pull it through to the ends before rolling it up to attain the curl you desire.

4. Try hot rollers. As with a curling iron, allow the rollers to heat per the manufacturer's instructions. Then roll sections of dry hair around individual rollers and secure with the provided clips. Allow them to cool, then remove them, style and use hair spray to hold the curls in place.

5. Curl your hair while you sleep by putting your wet hair in curlers and allowing it to dry overnight, although you may find curlers uncomfortable to sleep on.

Different Textures Of Natural Hair

Natural hair textures are as unique as personalities.

Natural hair is versatile and unique. Depending on the texture of your hair, it is possible to style it into an Afro, curly style, wavy coiffed look, dreadlocks, braids and many other styles. There is no one texture that sums up natural hair, though. Textures can across your race or even between members of your own family. There is no one definition of what natural hair looks or feels like.

Kinky

The kinky hair texture is possibly the most common texture among black people. This is the original texture that the original African people possessed. Kinky hair can be difficult to style and tame, but once you learn how, it can also be one of the most attractive. Kinky hair is characterized by its thickness and coarse consistency. It does not change in texture when it is wet. Without the use of moisturizing and detangling products, kinky hair is usually tightly coiled and not able to be combed through. The tight curls of kinky hair are very fragile and prone to breakage. Because of this fact, tightly coiled natural hair can stay very short in length without proper care.

Wavy

Natural hair that is wavy has a curl pattern that is looser than kinky hair. Wavy hair is full of body. Rather than tightly coiled curls, individuals with wavy hair experience a change in their hair's texture when it comes into contact with water. Wavy hair may appear to be straight when it is wet, but it returns to its wavy pattern as it begins to dry. Wavy hair does not usually require a relaxer or other chemical treatment to increase its manageability. Blow drying is usually sufficient to achieve a straight look for those with wavy hair.

Curly

Curly hair is a combination of kinky and wavy hair textures. Curls are usually tight and spiral in shape, however the feel of the hair is not as coarse as kinky hair. When a strand of curly hair is pulled taught, it has a defined "S" shape. Humidity can cause the curls of this hair texture to become frizzy.

Commonalities

Although the textures are different, natural hair of all consistencies benefits from moisture. This need for added moisture is most present in kinky hair because of its delicate nature. Wavy and curly textures need moisture, but in a lesser quantity to avoid creating a weighed-down feel and greasy appearance.

Instructions For Acclaim Perms By Zotos

Permanents work for all lengths and types of hair.

Zotos Acclaim Perm kits include waving lotion, activator and neutralizer, as well as applicator bottles. You will also need rods, which are rollers for perms, and end papers to protect the hair ends from getting crimped in the rolling process.

Prepare

Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue of styling lotions or sprays. Towel dry and section your hair for wrapping onto the rods. Use end papers on each rod. Take rolled cotton and place it around your hairline and wrap a towel around your neck.

Activate

Take the activator and pour it into the bottle containing waving lotion. Agitate it gently and then snip the tip of the applicator top. Cover each rod with activator lotion, ensuring that it is completely applied. When you are finished, remove the cotton from your hairline, and cover your scalp with a vinyl shower cap. Leave the activator in for 25 minutes, if your hair is not color-treated. Color-treated hair requires testing at intervals and shorter processing times -- 15 to 20 minutes -- depending on the type and extent of the coloring process.

Rinse

Rinse the activator lotion out of your hair. Make sure to thoroughly remove all activator by rinsing for about 5 minutes. Towel dry the rods and then use paper towels on each rod to ensure that any excess moisture is removed.

Neutralize

Gently shake the applicator bottle containing neutralizer and snip off the top of the cap. Apply it to each rod, ensuring that it is evenly and fully coated. Be sure to leave about 1/2 ounce (15 ml) of the neutralizer in the bottle for later. Leave the neutralizer in for about 5 minutes and then remove the hair rods. Take the remaining neutralizer and work it through your hair, massaging it through to the ends.

Finish

Completely rinse all neutralizer from your hair. Use a cool water rinse for 3 to 5 minutes and then towel dry. There is no need to shampoo afterwards. Wait 48 hours before washing, conditioning or otherwise treating your hair.

Hairstyles Of African Women

Hairstyles of African Women

The hair is the crowning glory for many women, including African women. A woman's hairstyle is often her statement and a good hairstyle can transform an otherwise plain-looking face into a stunning beauty. African women usually have luxurious, curly tresses that are often difficult to manage. Knowing take advantage of these curls and what hairstyle works best for the shape of the face is imperative.

Hairstyles for Formal Occasions

The French Roll is a chic and sophisticated hairstyle for long-haired women. Anchor the hair at the back of the head with a few hairpins. Comb the front portion into a cone-shaped French roll. This hairstyle is ideal for formal evening occasions and brides. Add butterfly or flower pins to the hairstyle for more variations. For women with shorter hair, the bob cut will look classy and elegant. Concentrate the hair at chin length and trim regularly. The hairstylist crops the hair at the top and back portions. An "updo" would also be elegant for formal occasions. Form a tight bun or knot at the top of the head by combing the hair away from the face. Allow the rest of the curls to hang naturally.

Hairstyles for Semi-formal Occasions

The choppy look is trendy and easy to maintain for occasions that are somewhere between formal and casual, such as attending mass on a Sunday or going on an evening date at a local restaurant. The cut is choppy and done in two layers with a sharp razor and scissors. There are no hair accessories needed-only a good hair conditioner. Soft hair will allow the curls to fall softly and naturally. The finger wave is simple and easy for short hair. Since the "waves" are in place already, all you need is a comb. The concentration of the hair should be at the front, about an inch. Create a dip with your fingers. The dip looks like finger-shaped bangs. Another hairstyle for semi-formal occasions is the hime cut. This hairstyle is for long hair. It has bangs with a small portion of it cut to shoulder length to add a layered look.

Hairstyles for Casual Days

The Afro look is ideal for casual days. Allow the hair to grow naturally to any length. Trim the hair regularly to avoid split ends and eliminate unruly hair. It is also easy to maintain-you can use your fingers to comb it. But a thorough hair conditioning will help keep the curls manageable. Another good hairstyle is the cropped cut. Do this by snipping several hair layers. Cornrows, a braided hairstyle resembling actual corn rows, is also good for casual days. This is very common among African women as it keeps unruly curly hair in place. The waves style is also good for ordinary days. Cut the hair to a length that would resemble waves of water. This is very popular because in addition to being easy to maintain, it also emphasizes the advantage of having natural, curly hair.

Trim Arm Hair

Let's face it, whether you are a man or a woman, arm hair can be bothersome. Maybe it's dark, maybe you have an abundance or maybe you just don't like it. Whatever the case may be, in just a few quick steps, you can trim your arm hair. Here's how.

Instructions

1. Snip your arm hair with scissors. This is the easiest way because everyone has scissors around the house. Using a comb, lift up your arm hair and trim off the desired amount. This is perfect for the person who doesn't want to remove it completely, but also doesn't want the density they currently have.

2. Trim your arm hair with clippers. The same clippers that cut your hair or trim your sideburns are perfect to use. Simply set the guard to the desired length and trim away. This is the fastest method. Also, test the length first on an area of your arm. This will ensure that you like the length. It's always easier to go shorter, because once the hair is removed, you have to give it time to grow back.

3. Try a cream hair removal. Nair is a popular brand that works well. This is ideal for the person who wants to remove all of their arm hair. Simply spread the cream on, wait the allotted time given in the directions and wash it off. It's that simple. If you only want to remove some of your hair, leave the cream on for half of the time according to the directions. This will completely remove some hairs and leave others.

4. Shave the tips of your arm hair. Because your arm hair is usually fairly long, if you use a razor, it will remove some hairs and the ends of other hairs. A razor is really meant to cut hairs that are short, so this process will thin the arm hair. While it is not as effective as the first couple of steps, it will certainly do in a pinch.

Cut Designs Into Hair

The barber's stripes aren't the only designs at the shop anymore.

Designs cut into low or faded hair, like those seen on the side of Mohawks, are being done at barber shops across the nation. These new designs can express everything from a barber's creativity to political views. They are essentially the new version of tattoos, albeit temporary, shaved into the hair instead of etched into the skin. They are also more affordable than tattoos. Unless you are highly skilled, you will require the help of a barber.

Instructions

1. Decide what design you want and where you want it. If it is a more simple design with just a few lines, you can use a ruler. Otherwise, a trip to the barbershop or a stencil is recommended. Also, make sure you cut the design into a place you can easily see and access.

2. Put a towel or plastic cape around your shoulders, tuck it in around your neck and secure it to keep hair off your skin.

3. Shave the hair down low using the electric clippers and the proper guard, if your hair is not already cut. You should have several different guards. Each guard guides the clippers on how close to the scalp to cut. Refer to the instructions for the clippers if you're unsure which guard to use.

4. Remove the guard and turn the clippers off while you prepare. If you are using a ruler, straight edge or a stencil, put it in place and hold it there firmly until you have completed the design.

5. Turn the clippers back on and slowly create the design. If you are free-styling, stop and check the mirror frequently to make sure you're still on track. Complete the same process if you are using a stencil or guide.

6. Use a barber's brush to sweep away excess hair. You may need to do this while you are still working on the design to keep the area visible. Make sure to do this after you are finished, too, brushing the freshly cut area and your neck to clear off unwanted hair.

Also, all hair treatments (perms, dyes, highlights) have chemicals which can be absorbed into the mother's body through her scalp. There is also the potential risk from the fumes in the salon, even if the treatments are being done on someone else.

Warning

Check with your OBGYN before using any chemicals. Some doctors may give the green light while others think it is too risky for you or your baby. If you go ahead and decide to get a perm or relax your hair, do so in a well-ventilated area. Explain to the hairdresser that you are pregnant and you would like a fan or a window opened. This will help relieve any headaches or chemical reactions you may experience.

Clothes Ideas For Backwards Day

Across the United States, many schools allow their students to depart from the normal social conventions by hosting events such as Tacky Day or Backwards Day. These events give students a great degree of freedom to personally express themselves in a whimsical way. If your school is hosting a Backwards Day event and you are having trouble coming up with ideas, consider one of these interesting approaches.

Tops

Obviously, wearing your shirt backwards is a very simple task, but there are ways to enhance the experience. For a unisex approach, you can write the word "Hello" in large letters on the front of a plain, white T-shirt and the word "Goodbye" on the back. When you wear the shirt backwards, people will see "Goodbye" before "Hello." You could also go formal and wear a suit coat, shirt and tie or a blouse backwards.

Bottoms

Wear jeans or pants with pockets on the back, so that onlookers can readily observe that they are on backwards. Avoid sweatpants because it can be difficult to distinguish the back from the front with certain types. Beyond just wearing your pants backwards, be sure to place your wallets or cellphone in your back pocket. Also, make sure that you wear your belt with the buckle on your lower back to complete the backwards look.

Shoes and Socks

Shoes and socks are probably the most difficult items to tackle for a Backwards Day event, because it is not actually possible to comfortably wear these articles backwards. To solve this, you may need to find or purchase two old pairs of shoes that you are willing to destroy. Cut the backs from both pairs of shoes and tape them together so that one faces forward and the other backwards. For your socks, simply turn them inside-out.

Other Items

A backwards baseball cap is a must for any backwards clothes assemble. If you are wearing a shirt that has a pocket on it, be sure to put something in the pocket. Also, consider wearing a scarf backwards with the ends running down your back.

The Tools Used For Curling Hair In The 1920s

The flapper look was all the rage in the 1920s.

The 1920s was the time when women wore a bob hairstyle and set them with curls for a more attractive and stylish look. The fashion trend for this era was the flapper look. Women wanted to look their best as they slowly began challenging society and moving out of their traditional roles. The curling tools used during that time were fingers, tongs, combs and pins. Today, celebrities are seen wearing 1920s waves to create a classy look.

Finger Waves

The bobbed haircut was one of the most popular hairstyles in the 1920s. During that era, women who wanted to soften their look and style their hair used their fingers to create waves -- thus, the finger waving technique was created. Finger waving, as the name implies, curls the hair using your fingers and a comb. The waves are close to the scalp and shaped like an "s." The hair is usually wet when finger waving is done. A setting lotion, also known as curling fluid in 1920s, is then applied to hold the waves together. Although this hair waving technique is outdated, celebrities are still seen wearing a wavy hairstyle that looks as if finger waves were used.

Marcel Waves

Marcel waving, created by Francois Marcel, was also one of the common hairstyling techniques used in 1920s. The hair was curled using curling tongs, which at that time was called the Marcel iron. Long before the curling iron was invented, tongs were used to create waves and curls to women's hair. The curling tongs were heated on a gas burner and tried out on a piece of paper prior to applying the heat to a woman's hair. Marcel irons actually came in various sizes depending on the woman's curling preference. Unlike finger waves, Marcel waves were usually done on dry and totally combed hair. The invention of the curling tongs brought about the development of the curling iron which is popularly used by women today.

Water Waves

In 1920, women were able to create water waves with the use of many combs with the teeth placed upward and a hair net to keep the combs in place. The combs were soaked in water and applied to wet hair. Setting lotion was also applied to the combs to hold the waves when the combs were removed. The water wave comb was manufactured for this particular purpose. In the 1920s different types of water waves were sported by women. The center part water wave, short part water wave and straight back water wave to name a few were just some of the types of water waves from the 1920s to 1930s.

Pin or Spit Curls

During the '20s, pins were also used to produce curls and waves to women's hair, thus the name pin curls. Such curling tools did not cause damage to the hair and made the curls last longer. In that era, women who curled their hair with pins would then use their spit to press the curls down. Pin curls were also called spit curls because of this way of styling. This curling method can be used to style wet or dry hair. Today, women wear pin curled hairstyle to give them a retro look.
