Create Cheer Bows

A cheer bow can complete the perky cheerleader's image.

Cheer bows are hair accessories that are often customized to match the look and style of a cheerleading team. Making it to your school's cheerleading squad is a source of pride; however, the expenses can all add up -- from expensive uniforms and shoes to training and accessories. Making cheer bows for your team, instead of ordering them, is one way to cut on costs, and gives you an opportunity to showcase your creativity. These instructions produce a korker style bow. With multiple spiral ribbons forming a pom-pom appearance, this bow will make your cheer team pep-rally ready in no time.

Instructions

Preparing the Ribbon

1. Secure one end of the ribbon to the 16-inch dowel rod with a clothespin.

2. Wrap the ribbon tightly along the length of the rod. Cut the excess ribbon with scissors. Secure the remaining end of the ribbon to the other end of the dowel rod with a clothespin.

3. Repeat until all dowel rods are covered with ribbon.

4. Lay the rods side-by-side on the cookie sheet.

5. Bake in the oven on 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes.

6. Unwrap the cooled ribbons from the rods.

Making the Bow

7. Cut the twisted ribbons into 3-inch sections.

8. Place a 6-inch piece of elastic cord on a flat surface.

9. Stack 25-30 ribbons atop the cord.

10. Tie the cord around the ribbons twice to secure the bow. Fluff the bow by gently pulling the ends of the ribbons until they all appear uniform.

11. Attach to the hair with a bobby pin inserted through the underside of the elastic cord.
