Rid Hair Of The Remnants Of A Perm

Rid Hair of the Remnants of a Perm

Generally speaking, perms last approximately three to four months. This does not mean that all of the effects of the perm are gone after this time period. Some curl and frizz will remain until all of the hair that has been previously permed is cut away. Most people simply get another perm to take care of the problem. Yet, if straight hair is the goal, another perm prolongs the growing-out process. A straightening iron can be used to temporarily remove the curl, but a more permanent solution is available that will completely remove the remnants of an old perm.

Instructions

1. Wrap a perm cape snugly around the neck and fasten into place. Comb and section clean, wet hair with a fine-took comb. Leave a 2-inch horizontal section of hair loose at the nape of the neck. Pin and clip the rest of the hair up and out of the way with hair clips.

2. Shake the bottle of perm solution to mix. Puncture the tip of the bottle with a thumbtack. Saturate the loose hair at the back of the nape with the perm solution. Comb through the section with the fine-tooth comb, and bring down another horizontal 2-inch section. Repeat process until all of the hair has been brought down, saturated and combed through.

3. Set the timer for 20 minutes. Comb through the hair at least every five minutes during the processing phase. Rinse the hair with warm water for five minutes after the 20 minutes is over. Gently dry the hair with a towel. Comb through the hair to remove tangles.

4. Shake the bottle of neutralizing solution to mix. Puncture the tip with the thumbtack and apply to the hair in the same manner as the processing solution. Set the timer for five minutes. Comb through the hair continuously during the neutralizing phase.

5. Rinse the hair completely using warm water after the five minutes is up. Towel dry and style the hair as desired.

Take Care Of Texturized Hair

When your stylist texturizes your hair, she is cutting it so it has the appearance of more volume. This is a great option for anyone with thin, fine hair, and the approach works wonders for both straight or curly hair. Using scissors or a straight razor, the stylist removes hair in what looks like a jagged technique. Texturizing adds body to your hair and can make it easier to manage.

Instructions

1. Use volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Volumizing shampoo and conditioner will add more lift to your hair. Find products that suit your budget; they do not have to be from the same line. Work shampoo into your roots only, and work the bulk of the conditioner into your ends. Rinse thoroughly and pat hair dry with a bath towel.

2. Use a deep conditioner 1 to 2 times a week. Because the texturized haircut requires a specific technique to cut ends, keep your hair well moisturized and healthy. A regular conditioner can be used in conjunction with pinning hair up and wearing a shower cap for about 20 minutes, allowing the conditioner to saturate the hair, achieving the same effect as a deep conditioner.

3. Pat hair dry with a bath towel. This will allow your texturized hair to dry smooth and will cut down on frizz. Wrapping your hair turban-style with a bath towel will extract water, but will still leave the hair cuticle smooth.

4. Do not excessively brush hair. You don't want to brush too often, as it can lead to breakage, which counteracts the texturizing. A brush with natural bristles will give your hair the most voluminous look. When you're done washing your hair, towel it dry, and allow hair to air dry at least halfway before you blow it dry. Section hair off, and move swiftly with a round brush, which will also enhance volume.

5. Use a styling cream. Texturized hair looks great with that bedhead hair that so many celebrities enjoy. Use a styling cream to separate your hair into messy waves. The process will take little effort. This works for both clean hair and day-after hair (meaning the day after you wash), making texturized hair a good idea for someone who has little time to devote to her beauty routine.

Perm Vs Highlights

A perm and highlights are very different hair services. Both use chemicals to alter your hair, but that is where the similarities end. A perm is a hair service designed to give your hair added texture, body and/or curl. Highlights are for adding color and dimension to hair color. Does this Spark an idea?

Who Can Benefit From a Perm?

Perms are beneficial to almost anyone who wants to add extra body or curl to their current hair texture. Keep in mind that perms cannot be done on everyone wanting to change their hair texture. Your hair must be in fairly healthy condition to use a perm. The chemicals used in a perm and the perm process is damaging to hair. If your hair already is substantially damaged due to poor hair care and/or back-to-back previous chemical services such as color, previous perms, highlights and chemical straighteners, then it is best if you do not get a perm. That being said, if you have had previous chemical services but your hair is in a healthy condition, a perm should be fine for you. It's always a good idea to consult with a professional stylist before getting any chemical hair service done.

Who Can Benefit From Highlights?

Highlights are a great way to add lightness and brightness or a contrasting color in hair. Highlighting can benefit anyone who is looking for a subtle or drastic color change to their hair. Highlighting is an option for those who want dimension with their hair color versus an all over hair color. The color of your highlights is up to you. Highlights can be lighter than your natural color in varying shades or can be a dramatic contrasting color like red, blue, pink, etc.

Types of Perms

The two most common types of perms are acid and alkaline. Alkaline perms use no heat to process the perm and typically delivers results faster than an acid perm. Acid perms are typically heat activated and take longer to process than alkaline perms. Acid perms are usually gentler on hair but alkaline perms tend to last a little longer.

Types of Highlights

Highlights are added into hair with a few different methods. The most popular method for highlights is foiling. Foiling highlights in is a technique that allows a stylist to weave out small strands of hair, lay them into foil and then paint the color or bleaching mix directly onto hair. Another foil is then placed on top so that the hair that has color on it does not come in contact with the other strands of hair that do not. Another technique is hand painting highlights on. Some call this technique balayage. Hair is styled as usual and then the highlighting mixture is painted directly onto select hair strands. One of the most popular do-it-yourself highlighting techniques is the highlighting cap. With this method of highlighting, a plastic bonnet is placed on the head and hair strands are pulled through small holes in the bonnet using a crochet hook type instrument. After all strands have been pulled through, hair is painted with color or bleach and processed.

Should You Get a Perm or Highlights?

If you are looking to add body and curl into your hair or if you want to change the texture of your hair, a perm may be what you are looking for. Perms can give you big curls, small curls, waves or even relax an overly curly head of hair. Highlights add in a new dimension of hair color into your current color. If you want to add a bit of brightness or contrast to your current hair color, highlights are probably right for you.

Disassemble A Remington Hair Dryer

After a shower or while preparing your hair for the day, a hair dryer comes in handy for most styling and drying purposes. Hair dryers are not very expensive, but it can be very inconvenient if they break unexpectedly. The main cause of failure for a hair dryer is the heating coil burning up. Contacting the Remington company and ordering the specific part can take time and shipping the single part may cost more than a new hair dryer.

Instructions

1. Unplug the Remington hair dryer.

2. Lay the Remington hair dryer on its right side. The top of the screws are on the left side.

3. Unscrew all the screws from the left side plastic housing frame of the Remington hair dryer. Place the small screws in a safe spot.

4. Unscrew the heating element directly behind the fan on the top of the Remington hair dryer. The heating element will be held down by four screws. Pull the electrical connection plug off of the back of the heating element (it is a slide clip that comes off quite easily).

Formal Short Prom Hairstyles

The slicked-back, sophisticated look is one option for girls with short hair.

Prom is a highlight of the high school years. It can be important to have the perfect date, dress, makeup and hairstyle. For girls with short hair, it may be a challenge to think of the perfect hairstyle for prom since hair can't be twisted or styled into various up-dos. Girls with short hair can easily create their dream look for prom night by using styling products and accessories.

Bohemian Chic

For a beautiful, yet carefree, look, apply texturizing cream to your hair and blow dry with a paddle brush until your hair is straight. Mist small sections of hair with hairspray, then curl with a 1-inch barrel curling iron. Once all of your hair is curled, run your fingers through it so that the ringlets look natural and loose. Part your hair directly in the middle, going all the way back to the crown. Finish the look by misting with hairspray, then add a thin metallic headband for extra flair. This style works well with bob haircuts.

Romantic Tendrils

This romantic hairstyle is excellent for curly hair, but if you have straight hair, you can definitely make it work. Start by dividing damp hair into 2-inch sections, and apply curling cream to each section. Shake out your hair and blow dry with a diffuser to create waves. Avoid unnecessary frizz by keeping your hands out of your hair as much as possible. Define curls around your face with a small-barreled iron and mist with hairspray. Gently pin hair up and back, away from your forehead. If your hair is very short, messily pin it up to allow curls to fall loosely where they may. If your hair is long enough, fasten it into a small bun.

Sleek and Sophisticated

This sweet, but edgy, hairstyle works for all lengths of short hair, from shoulder-length to pixie cut. First, apply a volumizing mousse to your roots and tease hair on the top of your head. Put styling gel on a comb and slick back the sides, then comb the back of your hair downwards. To keep your hair in place the whole night, mist with a super-hold hairspray. Since your hair is slicked back and away from your face, this hairstyle is perfect for showing off bold lips or eyes and an impressive pair of earrings.

Cut it shorter, or change the color

If you feel like being bold and making a lasting impression at prom, consider trying a new haircut. If you feel like you can pull off a short pixie cut or choppy layers with blunt bangs, go for it! Changing your hair color can also change your look. To add extra glamour, incorporate hair accessories. Not only do they keep your hair in place, they can add so much more to your hairstyle. To keep bangs away from your forehead, fasten hair with a delicate rhinestone bobby pin. Add extra flair with a headband that complements your dress, or accent a bun with a jeweled barrette. Make sure to bring extra product such as hairspray or mousse and bobby pins with you to the prom, so that you are ready to tend to any possible hair emergency and can continue to dance the night away.

Create Cheer Bows

A cheer bow can complete the perky cheerleader's image.

Cheer bows are hair accessories that are often customized to match the look and style of a cheerleading team. Making it to your school's cheerleading squad is a source of pride; however, the expenses can all add up -- from expensive uniforms and shoes to training and accessories. Making cheer bows for your team, instead of ordering them, is one way to cut on costs, and gives you an opportunity to showcase your creativity. These instructions produce a korker style bow. With multiple spiral ribbons forming a pom-pom appearance, this bow will make your cheer team pep-rally ready in no time.

Instructions

Preparing the Ribbon

1. Secure one end of the ribbon to the 16-inch dowel rod with a clothespin.

2. Wrap the ribbon tightly along the length of the rod. Cut the excess ribbon with scissors. Secure the remaining end of the ribbon to the other end of the dowel rod with a clothespin.

3. Repeat until all dowel rods are covered with ribbon.

4. Lay the rods side-by-side on the cookie sheet.

5. Bake in the oven on 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes.

6. Unwrap the cooled ribbons from the rods.

Making the Bow

7. Cut the twisted ribbons into 3-inch sections.

8. Place a 6-inch piece of elastic cord on a flat surface.

9. Stack 25-30 ribbons atop the cord.

10. Tie the cord around the ribbons twice to secure the bow. Fluff the bow by gently pulling the ends of the ribbons until they all appear uniform.

11. Attach to the hair with a bobby pin inserted through the underside of the elastic cord.

Russian Spiral Directions

Different types of beads can be used to create a unique Russian Spiral.

The Russian Spiral is a type of sewing of seed beads into a circular and hollow tubular pattern. Not only can this technique be used with a wide variety of different sizes and shapes of beads, but it is durable and can be used to make earrings, necklaces, bracelets and even purse straps. When looking a the final project, most believe that the pattern would be dreadfully difficult; however, although the Russian Spiral necklace is tedious, it isn't difficult to create with a little time and patience.

Instructions

1. Unwind 6 feet of the 8 lb. Crystal Fireline beading thread and cut the end. Pour your seed beads into the two small bowls and place them within easy reach by your work area. Begin creating your necklace by stringing on one 8o seed bead and two 11o seed beads. Repeat this step twice more, stringing on a total of three sets of the seed bead pattern.

2. Pull the three sets of beads all the way down the beading thread while leaving enough room to secure on your bead cap and toggle to the end; a 10-inch to 12-inch tail between the beads at the end of the thread will wok fine. Using an overhand knot, tie your beads together at the end to form a complete circle or beads, and make sure that you're keeping the thread tension tight at all times.

3. Pick a place to begin that is away from the knot, insert your needle into the first and second 11o seed beads, pop it out before the 8o bead and pull taught. Begin the bead sewing process in a circular pattern as opposed to the normal strands of beads most jewelers use.

4. String an 8o bead and two 11o beads on the thread and then insert the needle directly into the first 11o beads. Using the 8o seed bead as a marker each time, string with the beading needle through the two 11o beads only. Repeat this step, letting the new beads rest atop the circle until you complete an entirely new circle. Pull the line taught after each circle is made. Continue this process until you come to the desired length of the bracelet or necklace.

5. Tie several knots at the end of the piece and add a tiny drop of clear, strong adhesive to the knot to help hold it in place. Repeat the same on the opposite end of the rope and then add on the bead caps to each. Tie and secure the toggle clasp in place.

Seal Kinky Twist Ends

Kinky twists are the perfect hairstyle for African American women on-the-go.

Kinky twists are a style of hair extensions worn by many African American women as a protective to preserve their natural hair. Kinky twists offer wash-and-go convenience, eliminating the need for harsh styling practices. Worn for a period of up to two months, these twists allow the natural hair to thrive and grow. To ensure kinky twists last, and don't unravel, learn simple tips on sealing the ends to keep them secure.

Instructions

1. Roll the ends of three or four kinky twists into a medium-sized perm rod. Continue this process until the whole head of kinky twists is rolled with perm rods.

2. Place a thick towel around your neck and shoulders to protect them during the sealing process.

3. Bring a saucepan of hot water to a boil on the stove. Carefully pour hot water into a huge coffee mug. A mug with a thick wide handle that you can grip easily is advised.

4. Keep an extra towel handy to squeeze excess water from the hair.

5. Dip each perm rod section of kinky twists into the mug of hot water very carefully for a few seconds and then remove. Immediately squeeze the section of hair dry with the extra towel while perm rods are still in the hair. Ensure the towel around your neck and shoulders remains in place at all times to prevent hot water from coming into contact with your skin.

6. Leave perm rods in the hair for one to two hours to let the hair set. Remove perm rods. The curled kinky twist ends are locked in place, preventing them from unraveling.

What To Wear To A Dance

Party shoes

Dances are one of the best parts of growing up and being a teenager. In high school you get plenty of opportunities to attend a dance. Depending on the type of dance it is, you'll want to wear different outfits; it's important to know the dress code before you start planning what you're going to wear. You might even have the perfect outfit in your closet right now.

Casual Dance

A casual dance gives you the most leeway in deciding what to wear. Casual usually means that as long as it's within your school's dress code, anything goes. Jeans are probably your best bet, as they allow you to move and dance and hang out with your friends. Girls should choose a top that is a little different from what you wear every day. Wear flats so that your feet don't get sore from dancing in high heels. Guys should wear a button-up shirt or polo and stick to everyday shoes for footwear.

Semi-Formal Dance

A semi-formal dance is a good reason to get dressed up without having to go to the max. Girls should wear a skirt made of a material other than denim (try chiffon or rayon) or a dress that is knee-length or shorter with heels, but keep a pair of flats in your handbag so that you can change out of them if your feet get tired. Think of a semi-formal dress code as what you might wear to a fancy dinner party; nicer than jeans, but not as formal as prom dress. Guys should wear khakis and a button-up shirt. A tie isn't necessary but would still look great. Athletic shoes aren't appropriate. Try some casual black Skechers.

Formal Dance

A formal dance, like prom or homecoming, is a chance to go all-out with your clothing choices. Girls should head to a dress store and buy a floor-length dress. You can choose a knee-length dress as long as it has some special features, such as a tulle underlay or embellishments to make it definitively a formal dress. Heels are a must, so choose ones that aren't too high or are already broken in so your feet don't hurt all night. And choose a clutch as a handbag; it's much more formal than a shoulder bag. Guys should wear a suit and tie combination or a tuxedo. If you don't have a tux, you can rent one from a men's tuxedo rental store. Make it a special night by dressing up and looking great.

Hair Perm Information

Perms restructure the look of your hair into curls, waves or straightness.

A German hairdresser invented perms roughly 100 years ago. Perms can straighten curly hair or add variety, curls and volume to limp hair. The word "perm" is actually short for "permanent wave". During the process of receiving a perm, a chemical restructures the hair into curls, waves or straightness.

Time Frame

Perms times vary from person to person because of the length of your hair and the quickness of your stylist. They usually take 1 to 2 hours to complete. A perm takes 28 hours to settle, so it won't look its best until it is done settling.

Longevity

A perm usually lasts from 3 to 5 months. After 3 to 5 months, you must re-perm your roots so they match the rest of your hair. In 6 to 8 weeks, new hair growth can change the shape and look of your perm. Watch for changes in growing hair and to re-perm your hair when necessary.

Perm Care

Do not wash your hair for 48 hours after your perm. When blow drying your hair, use a low heat setting, as high heat settings dry out your perm and cause frizz. When styling your hair, use a vent brush and other products to help perms keep their original shape and attractiveness.

Decorate With Ribbons & Streamers

Ribbons and streamers help set the festive mood at a party.

Party decorations almost always include ribbons and streamers. Streamers are the elastic-feeling, stretchy, crepe paper strips that hang from ceilings, wrap around poles and contribute to the party atmosphere by adding color. If desired, they can also hold sayings or greetings for milestone birthdays, graduations or weddings. Decorating ribbon is the same ribbon used to wrap packages. The trick is in curling and shredding tool to give them a little extra zest.

Instructions

1. Choose theme or color scheme for event being planned. Take, for example, a 40th birthday party. Purchase rolls of crepe paper streamers or ribbon, including some saying "Over The Hill," "Older Than Dirt," or "Aged To Perfection."

2. Unroll length of streamer and secure at the corner of door or entryway with thumbtacks or tape, leaving long tail hanging down to floor.

3. Twist streamer, unrolling a little at a time. Tack it to other side of doorway or entryway. Do not pull streamer tight but leave some slack hanging in middle to create curve called a "swag." Ensure it does not hang so low that guests catch it with their foreheads as they walk into room.

4. Unroll and cut several lengths of ribbon. For instance, for a doorway corner, cut pieces at 3, 4 and 5 feet.

5. Knot ribbons together at one end and tack ribbons through knot to corner of same doorway streamer was placed.

6. Use ribbon curler to grab each ribbon separately at base. One by one, pull through curler to curl and shred ribbons, creating impression of more ribbons than actually used. Repeat on other side of door or entryway.

7. Continue to use streamers, alternating between colors throughout area for party. For example, around each doorway, room ceiling and especially around gift or buffet table.

Shag Hairstyles For Over 50

The shag hair style has been revived since the 1970s.

Hairstyles, like clothing, seem to evolve every few decades. The shag, which is a style characterized by different layered lengths of hair, was popular in the 1970s and it has been revived in the 2000s. The hairstyle is pretty much universal as far as the age of the wearer. With a few differentiations, this style can be just as sexy and beautiful on a fifty year old as on a twenty year old.

The Cut

Today's shag hairstyle differs in overall movement from the shag of the 1960s and 1970s. The layers are more proportionate without the very short top or the long tail. The key to today's style is to achieve a rough finish rather than a polished look by using mousse to give it body. It should appear as if you tousled it with your fingers instead of combing and brushing it into place.

Versatility

The shorter shag is a fashionable hairstyle for the older woman and allows for deviations from the longer layers of younger women. The versatility of the cut means that women can sport many different styles, giving them the option of adapting quickly and easily from daytime office to evening out on the town. Whether hair is curly, wavy or straight, a professional cut will make allowances for differences in hair textures.

Variety

The style of the shag you choose will determine the types and numbers of layers and the way they are worked into the hair. Different styles of the shag can be achieved through the technique used in the cut, giving you the ease of wash and wear but with the sexiness and tousled look of a vixen. You can choose bangs, long layers, short layers or whatever fits your style and personality.

Styling

When you are bored with one look, you can change to another simply by using different styling products, such as a volumizing spray, gel, mousse or pomade. After towel drying your hair, use a leave-in conditioner and apply a gel lightly. Gently combing hair with a wide-toothed comb removes any resistance and allows hair to flow freely. Use a diffuser on your blow dryer to dry hair and pinch the ends with a little wax.

Make A Hair Bow Barrette

Anyone can look sharp in a nice handmade hair bow.

Hair bow barrettes are neither difficult nor expensive to make, which means you can easily make unique and matching barrette bows for a wedding, a gift for a favorite niece, or a handmade hair bow for yourself. Any kind of ribbon can be tied into an interesting and attractive bow and attached to a barrette.

Instructions

1. Select the appropriate sized barrette clip with tension spring. Open the barrette clip and remove the tension spring. Save the tension spring.

2. Heat a knife on the stove until it is almost red hot. Trim the end of your ribbon at a 45-degree angle with scissors. Touch the hot knife to the edge of the cut to seal the ribbon end and prevent fraying.

3. Hold the end of the ribbon against the end of the clip and stretch the ribbon to the length of the bow you want. Fold a loop back, pressing the ribbon to the clip, then make a second loop the same size.

4. Repeat this process another time, this time with the loops at a slight angle from the first loops, with one end slightly above the last loop and one end slightly below the first loop. Repeat the process again, this time tilting the loops in the opposite direction from the first offset.

5. Cut the ribbon away from the spool, leaving a tail at least 3 inches long.

6. Pinch the bow in the center carefully and remove the barrette clip. Place a dab of hot glue on the center-top of the barrette clip. Press the bow back onto the clip and hold it there until the glue sets.

7. Add another dab of hot glue to the center of the bow to fix the angles of the loops.

8. Wrap one loop of craft wire around the glued center and twist the ends together to secure the center of the bow-loops to the center of the clip. Tighten the wire with needle-nose pliers and press flat any tails on the wire.

9. Fold the topmost ribbon tail a quarter turn so the tail stretches perpendicular to the barrette clip. Wrap the tail around the center twice. Trim the tail so the end of the ribbon is on the backside of the bow. Heat the knife and seal the cut edge of the ribbon. Apply a dab of hot glue to hold the cut end to the back of the bow.

10. Replace the tension clip in the barrette clip. Your hair bow is finished.

Decide Which Perm Rod To Use

Using the right size perm rod will give you perfect curls.

Perming your hair gives it the body and curl texture you desire. There are many sizes of perm rods that are identified mostly by their colors. Depending on your hair length and what kind of curl you are looking for, these rods will help you get the perfect curl. Healthy hair takes a perm better than coarse damaged hair. Keep hair in good condition by getting regular trims and deep conditioning one or two times a week, before applying any chemicals.

Instructions

1. Examine your hair and decide which type of perm you want. There are different types and sizes of rods, as well as solutions for each type of perm; curl, body and wave. The rod size depends on hair length, texture and type of perm.

2. Use the smallest rod; red, for shorter hair styles that want very tight, kinky curls. Use this rod for hair 2-inches or shorter, as the rods are small and thin and cannot hold much hair.

3. Use a blue rod; the second smallest size for hair that is 2- to 3-inches long. This rod will give a tight curl for short hair or wave on very short hair.

4. Use a pink rod on short to medium-length hair types to achieve tight to medium curls for hair longer than 3-inches. On hair that is shorter; 2- to 3-inches, it will create waves.

5. Use a gray rod for hairstyles longer than 4-inches. This is a medium-sized rod that creates curls on hair that is up to 5-inches long -- and waves on hair that is shorter.

6. Use a white rod; the second largest on short hair to give it body. On medium length hair, the white rod gives wave and it gives full curl on hair longer than 6-inches.

7. Use the largest rod of them all -- purple -- on long hair. It gives body and wave to hair under 6-inches long and full curl to long and very long hair.

Crazy Hairstyles For Girls With Short Hair

With a little creativity, you can create a crazy hairstyle.

You can make your short hair look crazy by cutting, coloring or styling it in a different and creative way. If you are a girl who is committed to maintaining your radical look for at least a couple of months, cut and die your hair to make a bold statement. If, however, the look is just for a special occasion and you want to revert to your more classic style the next day, use styling gel and temporary color rather than permanently changing the actual cut or color of your short hair.

Instructions

Style Your Hair

1. Choose a layered cut that is shorter on the top than the sides of your head. Towel dry your clean head of hair, leaving a little moisture in it.

2. Apply a long-lasting, firm-hold gel throughout the center strip of your hair, from the roots to the tips. Choose a strip of hair that is about twice as wide as the space between your eyes.

3. Backward comb individual pieces of your hair from the base to the tip to encourage your hair to stand vertically from your scalp for a Mohawk look. Style your hair into different directions for a messy look. Create triangles by pinching together sections of your hair at the ends.

Color Your Hair

4. Add a bright color to your hair to make even a conservative short-hair style look crazy. Purchase a commercial hair dye that clearly has the word "temporary" marked on the box, if you want the look to wash out in a few days. Consider adding clip-on-colored-hair extensions, to avoid having to bleach very dark hair.

5. Apply hair color to clean hair. Carefully follow the instructions of the manufacturer for the best result. Color just a portion of your hair, such as the roots, tips or sections throughout your hair for a dramatic look.

6. Choose a color that makes a bold, dramatic statement such as hot pink, burgundy or blue. Use more than one contrasting color for a crazy look. If you are coloring your Mohawk, for example, color the center portion pink and the sides gray for a dramatic look.

Shave Your Head

7. Shave your head for a very unusual look. Cut your hair to within one inch of your scalp with a barber's scissors.

8. Use a hair clipper to trim the remaining hair away from the scalp. Work in small sections running the clipper over your scalp in the same direction as the hair growth.

9. Take a shower to clean off any remaining fine hairs. A gently baby shampoo can be used on your newly shaven scalp. Maintain the look by shaving at least every three days.

1970s Hairdos And Hairstyles For Long Hair

Many women in the '70s wore their hair long and straight.

Hairstyles have changed greatly through the years. Each decade had its own unique style. The 1970s are no exception. Many women at that time wore their hair long, and experimented with several different styles. You can recreate these looks today.

Straight

Many women of the 1970s were known for their long hair being straight as a board. They would often part their hair to the side or right down the middle of their head and let it hang naturally. This look is simple to achieve. After allowing your hair to dry naturally, rub some heat activated straightening cream between your palms. Apply it to your hair from the ends upward. Heat up an electrical hair straightening iron and iron your hair straight, one small section at a time. When you are done straightening, part your hair to the side or in the middle of your head. Spray the surface of the hair with a shine spray to finish the look.

Headbands

Hair accessories were big in the '70s, especially the headband, but they usually were not worn on top of the head as women often wear them today. Women usually wore headbands that went across their forehead. There were many different types of headbands. Some were wide pieces of colorful fabric that would reach from just above the eyebrows to just above the hairline. Some were small strips of braided leather worn across the middle of the forehead. The rest of the hair would usually be straight and left down to fall naturally around the headband. To achieve this look, straighten your hair, then wear your favorite headband across your forehead.

Farrah Fawcett is a '70s icon who had a unique hairstyle that can only be described using her name. It consisted of large spiral curls around the face that flicked backward away from the face. This look was usually achieved with electric tongs. FashionEra.com says, "Heated rollers could be used to create a similar effect, but tongs could achieve more directional hair flick-ups." You can get this look in two ways today. One way is to use a curling iron. If you have a large barrel curling iron, use it to create curls around the face that flick backward. You could also use a blow dryer and large round brush to create the curls. After you have curled the hair, use hairspray to give it staying power.

Relax Damaged Hair

Although hair relaxers can be a cause of damaged hair, some feel that with a relaxer their hair is straighter and thus more manageable. Fortunately, there are gentle relaxers available that have conditioning botanicals and can be used on damaged hair, however, they can still cause damage if used incorrectly. Damaged hair is typically brittle, porous, split and very fragile, so great care must be taken when using a relaxer.

Instructions

1. Deep condition your damaged hair one week prior to relaxing it. If your hair is particularly porous, use a conditioning treatment that contains protein or keratin--these ingredients will strengthen and help protect your hair.

2. Purchase a relaxer that is gentle yet effective. These typically cost a bit more than normal relaxers, but they are the best option for damaged hair. Good choices include Phytospecific Phytorelaxer (use Index 1, which is for delicate hair), Elucence Gentle Relaxer and Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Relaxer. No matter what the texture of your hair is, do not get a relaxer formula that is for "coarse" hair, also known as a "super" formula--it is too strong for fragile hair and will cause further damage.

3. Thoroughly read the instructions on your relaxer, and check the box to insure that all of the elements, including the relaxer base, activator, shampoo, gloves and mixing stick, are included.

4. Perform a hair strand test as per the instructions for the relaxer you are using. Those with damaged hair cannot afford to skip doing a strand test--this will determine whether your hair can tolerate even a gentle relaxer.

5. If your hair does well with the strand test, proceed to apply the relaxer. Leave the relaxer on for two to four minutes less than the shortest recommended time. For example, if your relaxer suggests leaving it on your hair for 12 to 15 minutes, only leave the relaxer on for eight to 10 minutes.

6. Wash as much relaxer from your hair as possible with lukewarm water after the allotted time has passed--do this before shampooing. Gently shampoo your hair, and then use the included reconstructing conditioner. Do not skip this step, as your damaged hair will need the conditioning.

7. Roller set or allow your hair to air dry. If you plan to blow dry your newly relaxed hair, apply a heat-protecting serum, blow-dry cream, or split-end protectant while your hair is still damp. If you are going to flat iron your hair, apply a heat-protecting or flat-ironing serum while your hair is still damp.

8. Avoid relaxing your hair again for at least eight weeks. You should use a deep conditioner at least bi-weekly until your hair returns to a healthy state.

1930'S Women'S Hairstyles

In the 1920s, the popularity of the bob gave hairstylists a new status as women demanded frequent trims. The bob lost popularity in the 1930s, ushering in an era of longer, more feminine tresses. However, hairstyles kept the attention gained during the era of the bob, as women continued visiting salons and hair care innovations occurred, such as the development of shampoos for dry, oily, and normal hair; refinement of hairdryer settings; and improvement of permanent-wave machines and curling irons.

Finger Waves

The finger wave, or water wave, originated in the 1920s and was often used to create a curly look for the bob. However, finger waves were also used with longer styles, and the technique survived into the 1930s. Victoria Sherrow, author of "The Encyclopedia of Hair," describes how wet hair was styled, one side at a time, into a series of waves set in place by six to ten combs or pins and covered until the hair dried, resulting in defined waves. The style was so named because each wave is shaped by the stylist's finger and ends up roughly finger shaped.

Pin Curls

Pin curls were an easy way to achieve curly hair at home. Women twisted sections of damp hair into spirals and then either tied them close to the scalp with bits of rags or secured them in place with bobby pins, then covering them with a cloth, cap, or hairnet and leaving them to dry before removing the pins or rags. This was often done just before bedtime, allowing hair to dry overnight for curls in the morning. One famous wearer of pin curls was Shirley Temple, whose mother styled her hair every night to maintain her trademark mop of blonde curls.

The "Blonde Bombshell" Look

In 1931, Jean Harlow starred in the romantic comedy "Platinum Blonde," launching a nationwide mania for her bleached-blonde locks, which many of Harlow's female fans copied by dyeing their hair with peroxide. Although the platinum-blonde look was not for everybody, other haircolors, such as rose and mauve, became popular.

Do A Victorian Bun

A classic Victorian bun can still make a fashion statement in the 21st Century.

A Victorian bun, also known as the "Gibson Girl", became popular in the 1890's. A Victorian bun consists of the hair being piled high on the head to form a bun. The remaining hair around your head is puffed 2 inches away from the scalp, for maximum volume. Various tendrils of hair are pulled down around the face and at the nape of the neck to complete the hairstyle. With a comb and some hair pins, you can create a Victorian bun.

Instructions

1. Part your hair with a long-tail comb. Start at one ear, slide the comb around the back of your head, to the other ear. Pull the upper section up. Leave the bottom section of your hair down and clip it out of the way.

2. Tease the upper section of your hair to create volume. Separate your hair into 2 inch sections, as you work. Lift the first section. Use a comb or teasing brush. Start at mid-shaft and backcomb your hair. Allow the teased section of your hair to fall forward. Repeat this process until the entire upper section has been teased.

3. Smooth the upper section back. Use your comb or brush to gently smooth out your teased hair.

4. Remove the clip from the lower section of your hair.

5. Gather the upper and lower sections together. Pull your hair up to create a ponytail on the top of your head. Use an elastic to secure a loose ponytail. Slide the hair elastic away from your scalp, to loosen the ponytail. This will create the volume needed.

6. Pull down various pieces of your hair, around your face, above your forehead and at the back of your neck.

7. Twist your ponytail. Wrap the twisted hair around the top of your ponytail, to form the shape of a Victorian bun. Avoid wrapping the bun too tight. This would decrease hair volume. Secure the bun with hair pins.

8. Use a curling iron to create tendrils. Curl each of the small pieces of hair you previously pulled down in Step 6, with a curling iron. Smooth away stray hairs with a comb.

9. Apply hairspray to your hair, for a long lasting hold.

Cut & Style Raquel Welch Wigs

Whether you are wanting an entire wig or simply an extension of the hair you already have, you will find it when looking through the Raquel Welch collection. When styling a Raquel Welch wig, you can do anything that you would do to your own hair. You can cut it, braid it, curl it, or put in a ponytail. You can also purchase hair pieces such as ponytails, extensions, and headwraps to give yourself even more styling options.

Instructions

1. Decide whether you want a full wig or just an additional hairpiece. If you have short hair and you want it longer without having to wait for it to grow, extensions are the right fit for you. If the hair you have is not up to par with what you want your hair to be, a full wig may be the right choice for you.

2. Decide which cut is right for your face shape and choose one that you will feel comfortable in. If you're shopping online, the wig product description will often say whether the style is recommended for oval, diamond, square, heart, or circle face types.

3. Look for the color that you want your wig to be. As a general rule, people with warm complexions will look best with golden, rich brown, or redder hair colors and rich gold highlights. People with cool complexions will be most flattered by ashy shades of brown that give a warmer appearance.

4. Style as you would normally style your hair; depending on the style and cut of the wig that you ordered. Raquel Welch wigs can be heat styled up to 350 degrees. If your wig is made from synthetic hair, you will need to limit yourself to styling aids designed for synthetic hair wigs. However, many Raquel Welch wigs will only need a good shake and some finger styling to be ready to wear.

5. Wash your wig every 15 to 20 washes. If your wig is made from synthetic hair, you will need to purchase a special shampoo for this task. Squeeze out excess water gently and allow it to air dry before brushing or restyling.

Gymnast Hairstyles For A Competition

Gymnast

Women's gymnastics is an extremely athletic and competitive sport. Young girls endure extensive training and practice to perform at their best. The ultimate goal in gymnastics is to be a part of the USA National Gymnastics team. Gymnasts must be in top shape and every aspect of their routines are detailed right down to their hairstyle, which is also very important, because their hair must be out of their face to prevent distractions and unnecessary mistakes.

Ponytail

The ponytail is a very simple hairstyle that even a young girl can do. This hairstyle keeps the hair out of the face so the gymnast can stay focused on the task at hand. You will see many young gymnasts with this hairstyle and a ribbon added to dress it up. If you really want to dress up the ponytail, you can add twists in the top. You can also add tiny colorful rubber bands to section off the hair in a pattern at the top before you pull it into a ponytail. This works well for short or long hair.

Bun

The bun is another simple hairstyle that is very popular among gymnasts. You start off with the ponytail, then twist the hair and wrap it around in a circle. You can secure the bun with bobby pins and add a cute scrunchy to match the gymnast's leotard. You can also implement some of the styles listed above to dress up the bun such as twists or rubber bands. Or, try braiding the ponytail before you wrap it around for a different look. The bun is difficult to do with short hair; however, you can add in hair extensions or a ponytail clip on hair extensions to create the bun.

French Braid

The French braid is another hairstyle that is used often for young gymnasts. You can have one big French braid or you can have multiple French braids braided to the back of the head to keep the hair out of the gymnast's face. French braids offer a very classic, sophisticated look for young girls. You can also incorporate some of the styles listed above, such as the ponytail--French braid the hair into one or several ponytails, or take it one step further and twist the French braids into a bun.

What Use To Sharpen A Haircutting Clipper Blade

Clippers often have plastic guards to protect you from the sharp blades.

Most hair clippers actually come with self sharpening blades, and much like scissors, are designed to sharpen themselves as they are being used. A dull pair of clippers, then, is a likely indication that your clippers have been damaged in some small way, or more likely, that they are in need of a thorough cleaning.

Take Apart

Take the clippers apart to get the bottom blade off so you can get a better look at what condition your blades are in. Most hair clippers will have two screws on the bottom of the blades, which hold the bottom blade tight against the top blade. Dirt and hair can sometimes get stuck between the clipper blades, negatively impacting clipper performance.

Clean

Wipe away any dirt, hair and other debris that you find lodged inside the clippers. Most clippers come with a small synthetic brush that is ideal for this purpose. A small brush will help to get hair and other materials out of any cracks and crevices. Make sure to get everything, as you want your clippers to be as clean as possible.

Rust

Inspect the blades for any rust that might have built up on them or on other exposed metal parts of the clippers. You can use rubbing alcohol and a cloth to help remove any rust that you find. Also look for any other damage to the blades. A dull pair of blades may be an indication of some damage done to the blades.

Oil

Apply a couple drops of oil to the blades and then put the bottom blade back on. Reinsert the screws and make sure everything is tight and back to how you found it. Make sure the clippers work, and that you didn't put them back together wrong. Gradually the clippers should self-sharpen themselves, and your blades will be as sharp as they ever were. Remember to regularly clean and oil your clippers, however, to prevent any future problems.

Hairstyles Of The 80'S

Big hair defined the 1980s.

Hairstyles from the 1980s are largely inexplicable messes of bangs, hairspray and loud, obnoxious styles. With the invention of Music Television (MTV) and an explosion of irreverent, rebelling cultural icons -- from Michael Jackson to Madonna -- hair styles during the 80s often mirrored bold attitudes displayed on TV.

Why So Bold?

The decade of the 1980s was defined by the end of the Cold War, corporate growth and conservative politics. Cultural leanings during the 80s generally rebelled against the conservative mainstream and found expression in punk and carefree hair. Hairstyles also matched clothing -- generally patterned with bright, fluorescent colors. The 80s marked an era of experimentation and a happy-go-lucky spirit marked by courageous cuts and audacious grooming habits.

Female Cuts

Female hairstyles were often big and fluffy with lots of frizz and feathered locks. Perms were common styles with both loose and tight curls making curling and crimping irons standard devices in any bathroom. Bangs were wavy, vertical and sprayed heavily to remain fixed in position. Long hair was the rage for most women, with cuts generally falling just below shoulder level. Young women also wore pony tails to the side of their head as an added expression of a punk or carefree mentality.

Male Cuts

Men walking the conservative trend stayed with short, tight and un-dyed haircuts, often parted to one side. Short cuts often included a feathered touch, giving a fuller sense of body to the hair. Boisterous styles included long, poufy hair with sprayed bangs. Dark roots, contrasted blonde locks, and rat tails (thin strips of hair running down the back of the neck) were accepted as standard fare. Mullets (short hair in front, long in the back) were also popular with young men and super mullets made an appearance on a brave head every now and again.

The Influence of Music

The rise of hip hop music in the mid to late 1980s gratefully influenced African American hairstyles, particularly in men. Asymmetrical cuts -- standard flat tops, etc. -- made the style purposefully uneven, while high flat tops gave an extended, vertical look to a man's hair. Hip hop only perpetuated the persuasion music had on the style of male and female citizens alike. Incidentally, Caucasian males wore tall and spiked hair to match many musical pop rock and heavy metal celebrities.

Make A Church Veil

A veil is the perfect accessory for a bride to wear in a traditional church ceremony.

For brides who desire a traditional wedding in a church, the bridal veil is almost as important as a classic white gown. Classic church veils include the chapel length veil, cathedral length veil and the mantilla, which is commonly chosen by Catholic brides to represent modesty and innocence. Women who are handy with a needle and thread will save considerable money by making their own veil. Relatives or bridesmaids may wish to sew a church veil to give the bride "something new," or a bride can proudly wear her own homemade veil as she exchanges vows.

Instructions

Chapel Length Veil

1. Measure from the crown of the bride's head to the floor and the train of the wedding gown. A traditional chapel veil extends three inches past the train of the wedding gown, so add the bride's height to the length of the gown's train, then add 3 inches to the total.

2. Cut tulle 18-inches wide by the length determined from your calculations in the previous step. Slightly round the edges of one wide end for the tail.

3. Hand sew a running stitch along the long sides of the veil. Along the wide end you did not curve, measure 3 inches and fold the tulle to the underside of the veil.

4. Stitch ribbon, piping, lace or strung beading along the edge of the tulle to trim and give a polished finish.

5. Sew through the folded wide end of the veil by hand, pulling tulle tightly across the thread to gather and bunch. Tie off the end and cut excess thread.

6. Attach the gathered end of the veil to a 4-inch bridal comb by pulling thread through the bunched tulle and wrapping around the teeth of the comb.

Cathedral Length Veil

7. Measure and mark tulle to the dimensions of 120-length-by-30-inches wide. Cut the veil and round the edges of one end, for the tail.

8. Sew a running stitch along the long sides of the veil. Measure 3 inches from the wide end you did not round, and fold the tulle to the underside of the veil.

9. Trim the edge of the veil by stitching ribbon, piping, lace or strung beading on three sides, leaving the folded end untrimmed.

10. Sew through the untrimmed veil edge by hand. Pull the tulle tightly across the thread to bunch and tie off the end.

11. Pull thread through the bunched tulle and thread around the ring of a bridal wreath or tiara to mount on the bride's head.

Mantilla

12. Fold your tulle into fourths. Mark a 1/4 circle with straight pins forming the arc, and the folds composing the straight edges. The radius should be 24 inches. Cut along the pin marks and remove the straight pins before unfolding.

13. Back stitch 1/4-inches along the edge of the mantilla to secure to the veil. Hand stitch the lace trim around the entire circumference of the tulle circle, and back stitch to prevent unraveling.

14. Place two bridal combs approximately 3 inches apart on the underside of the veil, near the edge. Weave through the teeth and sew through the veil where the tulle and lace meet to hold in place before inserting into the bride's hair.

Different Styles Of Coiffures

A layered coiffure with side-swept bangs gives an updated look for long hair.

Coiffure comes from the French origin "Coiffer" and it means "hairstyle." Whether a coiffure is vintage or contemporary, elegant or simple, or smooth or loose, a hairstyle gives a woman an individual look. Before deciding on a coiffure, consider your face shape -- oval, round, heart, square, hair type -- curly, wavy, coarse, straight, and the desired length, three factors that can help you determine the right style for you.

Layers

Layers provide body and definition to any hair length. A layered coiffure is considered one of the most popular hairstyles because the style is versatile for most face shapes and hair types. Different types of layered looks include a short crop, soft and wispy layers, and graduated layers.

Bobs

A bob is a versatile, short hairstyle that can be edgy or soft-looking and accentuates any face shape depending on the cut. This style also requires less maintenance because of the hair's length. The bob can be cut with layers or straight depending on your hair texture. For example, if you have fine, straight hair, a chin-length bob can give the style more volume and the illusion of thicker hair. For wavy or curly hair, a wispy-layered bob cut gives movement and texture.

Pixie Cut

The pixie, or boy cut, is super short and does not require a lot of style maintenance. A pixie cut is a daring and bold hairstyle with either wispy or long bangs depending on the face shape. The style looks more appropriate if you have petite features.

Perms

Permanent waving, or "perm" for short, is a chemically-processed coiffure for straight hair if you want curls to last a long time. Unlike hot rollers or curling irons that provide a temporary style for one day, perms can last up to six to eight weeks. If you decide on a perm, make sure your hair is healthy and clean from any product buildup as this can affect the chemicals for the perm.

Cute Christmas Hairstyles For Teens

Look your best for holiday pictures with a cute hairstyle.

The Christmas season is a time for parties, celebrations and ceremonies. Look your best for the holidays with a cute and festive hairstyle. There are formal and informal Christmas hairstyles and updos for teens. The right hairdo for you depends on the occasion, as well as your personal tastes and preference.

Curls and Waves

Curls and waves are very formal and fancy-looking, making them ideal for formal occasions, such as church services, caroling or elegant parties. For short hair, wave your locks. Use a narrow flat iron, turn the device 180 degrees and run down the hair to curl as you would curl a piece of ribbon. This will give your hair bouncy waves. For medium to long hair, use curlers, hot rollers or a curling iron to achieve more defined and spiral curls. Lightly spritz hair with hairspray after styling.

Hairstyles With Flowers

Many Christmas hairstyles incorporate holiday flowers. Wear your hair down and tuck a red carnation, rose, poinsettia leaf or sprig of holly behind one ear. Alternatively, wear hair partially up and attach the flower with a bobby pin on top of the section of hair gathered behind the head. A third option is to wear your hair in a ponytail or bun and tuck a flower into the bun or behind the elastic hair band of the ponytail. For added effect, add a bit of white baby's breath around the bun with bobby pins.

Hairstyles With Ribbons

Ribbons add an elegant and decorative touch. They are also especially suited for Christmas hairstyles, since they can be made to look like the ribbons atop a gift or package. Spiral curl the hair, gather the hair around the face into a section behind the head and secure with an elastic band. Tie a few plastic ribbons onto the band. Curl the ribbons with a pair of scissors. For a more formal look, arrange the hair in a bun behind the head and tie a satin or silk ribbon into a large bow around the bun. Another option is to leave the hair down and wear a red, green, silver or gold ribbon as a headband. Cut a 14-inch ribbon. Place the ribbon around your head, a few inches behind the hairline, and tie in knot at the nape of the neck.

Braids

Braids create a cute holiday hairstyle, while also keeping the hair off the face. Braids are ideal for outdoor holiday gatherings, where there may be wind, or for holiday performances, in which you want to tightly secure the hair behind the head. Gather the hair behind the head in a ponytail and braid. Alternatively, part the hair down the middle of the head and arrange in pigtails. Braid each pigtail. For more formal-looking braids, French braid the ponytail or pigtails. Accessorize braids with jeweled clips or rhinestone bobby pins. Use diamond tones for a frosted, icicle look.

Care For Overly Porous Hair

Care for Overly Porous Hair

Porous hair refers to damaged, fragile hair, prone to excessive breakage. Injury to the hair cuticle and shaft causes the hair to grow weaker and split. Having overly porous hair also means that the hair releases moisture easily making the hair dry and brittle. Care for porous hair is a combination of repair and proper maintenance. Restoring hair to its natural state of movable, strong, shiny tresses takes patience and discipline.

Causes

Hair can be broken down by a number of different factors including excessive use of chemicals for perms, permanent dye, the lack of proper conditioning, sun and wind damage, and the extreme use of hot styling products. High exposure to chlorine is also a cause of porous hair.

Repair

Overly porous hair is prone to high levels of moisture absorption and loss. Water flows in and it flows out just as quickly. The cuticles aren't able to adequately hold in the moisture. Repairing the broken shafts and cuticle layers is essential to getting the hair healthy again. Finding a shampoo that is pH balanced will assist in not stripping the hair of its natural oils. Protein treatments will work to mend the damaged areas along the cuticle. Don't overdue it, however. Using a clear or colored semi-permanent rinse will add similar amounts of protein found in conditioning treatments and has the same effect as conditioners while enhancing your color and adding shine. Products for damaged or color-treated hair are gentle enough for your hair to handle and also assist in tightening up the cuticle layers to give hair more elasticity.

Care

Discontinue any chemical use on your hair. Avoid using heat whenever possible. Once weekly, deep condition your hair to help build up your hair's strength and repair its shafts. Leave-in conditioners in addition to your regular conditioner help to reduce the shock and breakage when combing through wet hair. Leave-in conditioners reduce split ends and frizz. Use a wide tooth comb or brush to detangle hair.

The heat used in hot-oil treatments for the oil to penetrate the hair might also have a harmful effect. It is best to stick with your regular conditioner. Minimize combing and brushing your hair this reduces the amount of stress you cause. Incorporate hair vitamins into your diets. Our health and beauty are interrelated and healthy hair is the result of taking care of your body and drinking plenty of water. Creating a regimen and sticking to it is the key to recreating a healthy head of hair.

Spice Up A Black Dress For The Holidays

Emma Watson shows how the right makeup and accessories can transform a little black dress while attending a premiere in New York.

Each year as the holidays draw closer and calendars fill quickly with fabulous soirees, women face the task of choosing the perfect holiday party outfit. More often than not, they reach for the tried and true little black dress. The key to sprucing up basic pieces like the black dress lies in using the right accessories. Shoes, jewelry and other fashion fixes are your best bets for making a variety of outfits from this one versatile garment. The holidays are all about the glitz, so pair your dress with glamorous pieces that sparkle and fit the season.

Instructions

1. Pair your black dress with gold jewelry for a fast and easy way to create a glamorous outfit. Hoop earrings, cuff bracelets and chain necklaces create a chic and trendy look with your dress.

2. Choose jewelry that shines. Jewelry with crystals, diamonds or rhinestones will look fabulous with a basic black dress. A pair of diamond stud earrings and an embellished necklace take your dress from drab to fab in an instant.

3. Wear lace tights under your little black dress. Lace adds some extra adornment during the holiday months. The tights also help keep your legs warm if the weather is chilly. When wearing tights, do not wear peep-toe shoes or sandals.

4. Pair your black dress with metallic, strappy sandals or other shoes with embellishments to dress up your look for a formal event. For holiday cocktail parties, pair your dress with glittery pumps in a fun color to add festivity to your frock.

5. Opt for hair accessories to spruce up a little black dress. Embellished headbands with rhinestone or crystal appliques will easily jazz up a simple hairstyle. Embellished bobby pins and hair clips also work well.

6. Choose a statement clutch in a gorgeous print or with beading or other embellishments to look more festive for the holidays. Statement clutches help give your little black dress more of an impact.

Beach Bride Wedding Hairstyles

Wavy hairstyles tend to withstand the elements of a beach wedding.

Wind, sun and moisture can all add to the challenge of finding the perfect hairstyle for your beach wedding. Your hairstyle should reflect the fact that a typical beach wedding ceremony is often a casual affair. Loose waves or curls tend to work better for an outdoor ceremony as you do not need to worry about an intricate, sleek style holding in place. Add a large flower to complement the bouquet to enhance any bridal beach style.

Beach Waves

A wavy up-do is a classic look to adopt for a beach wedding. Waves can be achieved without the aid of a professional stylist using a curling iron. Twisting each wave around your finger while it cools from the heat of the iron will help your curls stay intact. Use bobby pins to pin the hair up at the back of your head. A wavy up-do style should look effortless and relaxed, so do not stress over every strand of hair. Instead, let the hair fall in place naturally.

Side-Swept Curls

If you like to frame your face with sections of hair, then a side-swept, curled ponytail is an elegant option. Once your hair has been curled all over, sweep it over to one side. Use a hair wrap that matches your hair to tie it into a side ponytail. Take a 1 inch section of hair and wrap it around the base of the ponytail to conceal the hair wrap. Leave the hair in a loose side ponytail or twist it in to a side-curled bun.

Half Up, Half Down

A half up, half down style is ideal for a woman who likes to wear her hair loose but would rather keep some of the front sections back from her face. This style works particularly well for a beach wedding as you get the appearance of loose flowing hair but will not be caught off-guard by the sea breeze. Simply take 2- to 3-inch sections of hair from either side of the face, pull them to the back of your head and pin them back using bobby pins. Back-comb the roots of your hair before pinning it back for a fuller, more voluminous look.

Flipped-out

Flipping out the ends of your hair breathes new life in to an otherwise straight style. Use a large barrel curling iron or heated rollers to flip out the ends of your hair. If you have side-swept bangs, add a roller to give the front of your hair more definition and to frame your face. Flipped-out hair looks relaxed, yet groomed. Add a flower to one side of your hair for a sweet finish.

Short Haircuts For Thinning Hair

If your hair is thinning, it's a good idea to get a shorter haircut. Short hairstyles draw attention to your face, and away from your hair, which may be enough to help you hide thinning spots. There are several classic short hairstyles that may work for you, but keep in mind that a good hairstylist will be able to tailor any cut to your specific face shape, hair type and tastes.

Bangs

You may choose to go without bangs, but if you do choose to have bangs, consider heavy bangs. Heavy bangs give the overall illusion of thicker hair, and if you keep them short, people may not be able to tell that they are thin at all.

Asymmetrical bangs may also give the illusion of thickness. Side-swept bangs complement an asymmetrical haircut and can also hide a thinning hairline.

Bobs

The bob is a classic short haircut that makes hair look thicker than it really is. This is because the hair is all one length, and it frames your face. Many bobs are cut chin-length, but if you want an even shorter cut, Hair Boutique suggests that an earlobe-length bob can look even thicker than a chin-length bob, because the widest part of your face is typically around your ears. Bob haircuts work for most face shapes, but if you have a long face, make sure the cut is fullest at the bottom. This will balance the length of your face.

Layers

It seems counterintuitive to cut layers into thinning hair, but lots of layers actually give the illusion of thickness. Cutting layers into the classic bob gives the style more shape, which can make it look even fuller than it really is.

Layers are especially helpful if you have a round face, because a cut like a bob that is all one length can make your face look too wide. If you have a round face, use layers to add volume on top of your head, but also to leave some longer strands just above your shoulders. This will help elongate your face.

Styling

No matter what haircut you get, thinning hair needs special care when you're styling it. You should pick a cut that allows you to style your hair without too much heat, which can cause damage. Try to choose a style that allows your hair to air dry, and use straightening irons, curling irons and rollers sparingly.

If you choose to color your hair, you should know that strategically placing highlights and lowlights can make your hair appear as though it is more voluminous than it actually is.

Tucking your hair behind your ears is also a good way to create the illusion of thickness. You can do this on both sides with a classic bob, or if you get an asymmetrical haircut, tuck the thin side behind your ear.

Construction Perm Loan Definition

A construction perm loan is a long-term permanent loan that modifies a construction loan used to finance a building project. However the closing occurs prior to the beginning of construction. To understand why a construction perm loan is advantageous, you have to compare it to a construction-only loan.

Construction loans are temporary. They drawn upon during the construction process. There is no principal paid on a construction loan during the draw stage, as it is used entirely to construct a project. A construction loan must be refinanced at completion of the project. With a construction perm loan, nothing else has to be done at the end of construction except to "modify" the construction loan into a permanent loan by signing the modification package. This is because the loan was closed prior to the beginning of construction.

Positive Aspects of Construction Perm Loans

A construction perm loan is a one-stop loan to build a home that takes the place of up to three separate loans. The first is that one can write a contract for the purchase of land, and add it to the loan package, saving the cost of closing a land loan. The second is the construction loan itself. One can go into a bank and get a construction loan and pay to close it. Later one would have to pay to close a permanent loan to pay off the construction loan.

A construction perm loan would encompass all of these loans into one, saving money in closing costs.

Costs are not the only thing saved by using a construction perm loan. This loan has the added feature that the borrower does not need to requalify for the permanent loan at the end of construction, since the loan is already closed.

Negative Aspects of Construction Perm Loans

There are some negatives with a construction perm loan. The homeowner has the option of locking in a permanent rate very early with construction perm lenders. This is a positive thing in times when interest rates are rising. But when rates drop, this can be a negative. However, some lenders allow for an option to float down. If rates have dropped substantially since a lock-in date, they will allow the borrower to drop the interest rate down to something closer to the more recent market pricing.

Uses of Construction Perm Loans

A construction perm loan can be used to finance many types of residential construction, including standard homes and even mobile and modular homes.

Flexibility of Construction Perm Loans

The construction perm loan has some flexibility in that it can be used to finance the remodeling of an existing home project. An example of this might include a borrower buying a small home at a great deal and using a construction perm loan to purchase the home, remodel and add an additional bedroom. Another interesting way to use this loan can be for a remodel of a home one already owns, and integrating all of the costs into a refinance.

Availability of Construction Perm Loans

Construction perm loans are offered by many major banks. Most use conventional guidelines for qualifying the borrower, but some offer FHA.

Use A Conair Eyebrow Trimmer

Shape and trim your eyebrows with a Conair eyebrow trimmer.

Conair specializes in moderately-priced personal grooming tools from hairbrushes and combs to electrical tools, such as hair straighteners, blow dryers and hair trimmers. Many of Conair's hair trimming tools come with multiple attachments that are specialized for certain areas, such as mustaches, bikini lines and eyebrows. The eyebrow attachments included with these models not only trim eyebrows, but allow you to shape, define and remove stray hairs for a clean, well-groomed look.

Instructions

1. Attach the eyebrow trimmer attachment to your Conair trimmer. To remove the current trimmer head, grip the trimmer firmly, then twist the current trimmer head counterclockwise until you hear it click. Pull off the trimmer head and replace it with the eyebrow trimmer attachment.

2. Slide the eyebrow comb onto the eyebrow trimmer head. You will hear it click in place, though it may slide down to the second position. This will trim your eyebrows a shorter length -- always start with the first position. If you slide the eyebrow comb too far, slide it back up until it clicks into the first position. Second and first position are marked on the side of the eyebrow comb.

3. Smooth your eyebrows by sliding your finger across them. Start from the inner side of the eyebrow and slide your finger out and across the eyebrow to smooth the hair. Turn the trimmer on and run it across both of your eyebrows using the same motion. Never start from the outside and work your way in, as this will trim your eyebrows too short.

4. Trim your eyebrows until they are at your preferred length. If desired, slide the eyebrow comb to the second position for a closer, shorter cut. Wipe your eyebrows with a damp cloth to remove loose hair.

5. Turn the trimmer off and remove the eyebrow comb. If desired, shape your eyebrows with the eyebrow trimmer attachment without the comb. You can use this attachment to remove any stray hairs in your eyebrow area. Work slowly to avoid accidental eyebrow removal.

Perm Highly Resistant Hair

Many different types of permanents can create a variety of looks from big, tight curls to flowing ringlets. Perming hair is relatively easy, and you can either pay a professional to do it at a salon or do it yourself at home. While perming your own hair is easier if you have "normal" hair, it is possible to self-perm resistant hair, provided it is in good condition beforehand.

Instructions

1. Wash and condition hair the day before you plan to perm. Depending on the condition of your hair, consider using a deep-conditioning treatment or a treatment for your specific hair problem.

2. Consider the type of curl you would like. There is usually a picture of someone with the type of perm you are trying on the front of the DIY perm box. How similar your results will be depends on the type of hair you have. Coarse hair takes longer to perm, but the results also last longer. Fine hair perms fast, but the results do not last long. If you don't know what type of hair you have, consider your natural color. If it is blond, you are likely to have fine hair. Dark hair is likely to be coarse.

3. Select the right color of rods. These may be included inside your DIY perm box, but you may need to purchase these separately. Yellow rods are small and will result in Afro-type curls. Blue rods are slightly larger, with pink, gray and white rods being medium-sized and purple and orange being largest.

4. Check to see that your perm mixture is alkaline. This is the most successful mixture for resistant hair. Acidic and exothermic perms are much less likely to work on resistant hair, so read the box carefully to check you have an alkaline mixture.

5. Comb your hair into sections. The smaller the section, the more defined the curl will be, so keep this in mind when choosing a section size.

6. Place "end paper" on the tips of the hair in a section, and use this paper to help you wrap the hair around the rod

7. Repeat with all sections.

8. Wait for the designated time and begin to remove rods from hair carefully.

What Are The Current Hairstyles For Men

A hairstyle, to a degree, is a reflection of a person's personality. Men are usually thought of as not caring about their appearance, but many men care a lot about their hairstyle. And many of those men want to stay current on hair trends.

Short

A trendy look for short hair is gelled with tousled spikes on top. Other popular styles are short and tousled, with gelled hair going every which way. Easy-to-maintain styles that are also popular include the crew cut and buzz cut.

Medium

Medium hairstyles that are fashionable are looks that are long in front with a side swept bang (think Zac Efron). A full bang is also a popular style with the back going down to the nape of the neck. A hairstyle that features gelled hair that's stuck up and out on one side is also trendy today. Many men with curly hair are wearing it unstyled and soft. A mini-fro, a scaled-down version of the 1960s to '70s afro, is also in style.

Long

A side-swept bang accompanied by the rest of the hair cut level with the chin is all the rage with many long-haired men. Other styles include chin-length hair that is framed around the face with a side-swept bang. An additional widespread look is one that falls just above the shoulders and is slicked back on top. Long curly hair is being worn in full curly fashion down to the chin and just above the shoulders.

Do A Piggy Back Technique Perm

Deep condition and dry your hair before perming it.

Getting a perm in a salon -- especially if you have long hair -- can be expensive. However, doing a perm at home when you have long hair poses its own problems. If your hair is longer than shoulder length, it may be too long for the small-barrel rollers that come with home perm kits. However, by using the piggyback technique, you can give yourself a gorgeous, even perm from roots to tips.

Instructions

1. Dip your little finger into the petroleum jelly and dab it around your hairline, creating a thin line of the jelly between your hair and skin. Also cover the tops of your ears with the petroleum jelly. This, according to the fashion website Type F, protects your skin from the chemicals in the perm solution.

2. Separate your hair into 1-inch sections and clip up the sections you're not working on so they will be out of the way. Hair Finder recommends starting with the hair on top of your head and then moving to the hair at the sides and back of your head.

3. Take one of the strands of hair from the top of your head and twist it into a strand about 1/4 inch wide. Twisting your hair before wrapping it around rollers gives you loose waves and makes it easier to ensure an even curl structure.

4. Place a curling rod at the midpoint of your twisted hair strand, halfway between your scalp and ends, holding the rod at a 45-degree angle to the strand. Twirling the rod, wrap the upper half of the strand around the rod, until you get to your scalp. Secure the rod with bobby pins or clips.

5. Curl the lower half of your twisted hair strand around a second rod, twirling it until your second rod touches the first one. This gives the technique its name, since it looks like one rod is giving another one a piggyback ride. Secure the second rod. Repeat this step with all sections of your hair.

6. Put on the gloves and apply the perm solution as specified by the manufacturer's directions. Leave it in for the period of time specified by the product's directions. Remove the rods and don't wash your hair for at least 24 hours to give the solution time to fully set your hair.

Easy Hair & Make Up Ideas

There are easy alternative hair and makeup styles to make your grooming go faster.

Many women put a lot of effort into getting ready, taking time to ensure their hair and makeup look good. Although the end result is usually worth it, many women do not have the time to spend day in and day out on lengthy techniques. For women looking for a solution, there are a few easy, simple, and quick tactics that can provide a beautiful look.

Long Hair Alternative

Although straightening and curling long hair are popular and effective techniques, some women might prefer a more "rockish" style, providing a sleek, textured, and easy method to style your hair. By avoiding using a brush and then adding thickening lotion to your hair prior to blow drying, you can use your hands to pull your hair into the desired look after drying it. Popularized by Kate Moss, this textured hair styles helps to save lots of time in the morning.

Lipstick Tips

Lips can be one of the most appealing features of a woman's makeup. so it is essential to apply it correctly. Ensure that your lips stand out by starting in the middle of the lips with a strong color, working your way to the outside. The biggest mistake that many women make is starting with liner and then working your way inward, a method which often makes the outside of the lips more bold and bright than the center-most point, which is the area that provides the fullness to lips.

The Eyes

For those running low on time, making the most out of the little time you have can be done by focusing on the eyes, creating that "no makeup" look. CoverGirl makeup artists recommend applying a quick cover-up and foundation on the face. If time permits, a shadow can be applied to the eyelids. A highlighter cream should be applied, ranging from the top of the cheekbones to the outer eye area. The combination of this "less is more" approach serves to create a more natural look.

Pigtails

Pigtails never go out of style. They can be used for a quick and cute look for girls. The key is to first create soft waves with a curling iron, followed by a split of the hair down the middle into two sections. Weave the hair into a braid behind each ear, followed by securing the hair behind each ear with an elastic band. Wrap a piece of hair around the band to hide it and you are ready to go.

Hair Relaxer Instructions

When relaxing your hair, follow the instructions carefully to avoid hair loss or damage. If you buy a kit to use at home, you'll find the directions inside. Completely read through the instructions before starting if you want the best results--that is, straightened hair that looks and feels great.

Before You Begin

Before you apply the relaxer to your hair, gather everything you need in one place. The bathroom is the most sensible option because you have access to a mirror and water for rinsing. You'll also need towels, a comb, hair clips and plastic gloves (which are usually included in relaxer kits) to protect your hands from the chemicals.

Apply a Relaxer

Part your hair into four sections and use the hair clips to hold the hair that you're not working on out of the way. If you're applying a relaxer to hair for the first time, apply it all over the hair, beginning at the roots and working your way to the ends. If your hair has been previously relaxed, apply it to the new growth, which should be about 1 inch in length (if you go the recommended eight weeks between relaxer touch-ups). It's important to only put the relaxer on your hair and not on your scalp and skin; you can get chemical burns if the relaxer gets on your skin.

Working quickly, use the comb to create 1 inch sections and apply the relaxer to the hair you want to straighten. It may be easier to begin at the back of the head and the nape of your neck. Do not comb the relaxer through the hair; only smooth it with your hands. If you're touching up a relaxer, be careful not to apply any to previously straightened hair as this will lead to breakage.

Once the relaxer is applied all over the hair, or new growth, continue to smooth with your hands, especially near at roots, until the time period is up. This is usually about 20 minutes.

After the Relaxer

You have to rinse all traces of the relaxer out of your hair. If you have a bowl sink with faucet attachment, this is ideal. Otherwise, you can rinse your hair in the shower. It may take several minutes to rinse the relaxer out of your hair. After rinsing, follow up with a neutralizing shampoo. You must use a neutralizing shampoo to stop the relaxer process; failure to do so will lead to breakage and serious damage. Shampoo two to three times; some relaxer kits come with color-changing shampoos that will turn a certain shade when all traces of the relaxer are gone. After shampooing, use a moisturizing conditioner.
