Short & Curly Hair Prom Ideas

Make your hair look as fabulous as your dress.

Many girls look forward to prom from the moment they step into high school. And, of course, looking your best is just one of the details that need to be perfected for the big night. For short and curly hair, there are a few great ways to show off your locks for your prom night.

Half-Up Half-Down

The simple, yet elegant, look is perfect for prom. Wash your hair the night before prom because slightly dirty hair holds better than clean hair. To add a little volume to your curly 'do, set your hair in hot rollers; the smaller the roller, the tighter the curl. The rollers will keep your hair in its curly shape, but add a lot of volume. Using a rat tail comb, rat the very back of your hair to add just a little height at the crown of your head. Pick both sides of your hair starting with the hair just above your ears, and bring them together at the crown of your head. Use a small, clear hair tie to keep your hair in place. To add some glamour, use a crystal hair barrette to clasp over the hair tie. The hair barrette will add color and sparkle to your prom hairdo.

The Mini Updo

Just because your hair is short doesn't mean you can't have an "updo." A mini, messy updo is easy and quick to style. Place your hair in hot, medium- to large-sized rollers. When you take the rollers out, do not brush your hair. Yyou will need each curl to be slightly separated from the others. This will help to keep your curl but to add more volume. Split your hair up into two sections, top and bottom, at the back of your head. Secure your hair with two small, clear hair ties, one mini ponytail just above the other. Since your curls have not been brushed out, you can easily bobby pin each curl to the hair around the ponytail. Starting with the lower ponytail, pin the curls down around the hair tie. When finished, do the same thing with the top ponytail. The result will be a mini, messy updo that will look both classy and fun.

Down with Accessories

Sometimes the best way to go is the simplest way. Keep your hair down, and spice it up with some accessories. If you do not have perfect spiral curls, you can add some hot rollers to your 'do. The rollers will help define your curls while adding some volume. Purchase a beautiful headband as your accessory. With your hair down, place the headband behind your eyes and on the top of your head. Rat the very back of your hair to add even more dramatic volume.
