Set spirals in your hair by pinning it when it is wet.
Many girls have visions of spiraling tendrils amassed around their crowns, but have no idea execute the style successfully. Even girls who have naturally curly hair can struggle to achieve springy, symmetrical tendrils that last longer than five minutes. The key to tight, lasting spirals is how you let your hair dry. The most effective way to shape hair is to style it when it is wet and let it dry in that arrangement. Spirals that can withstand time, temperature and wind are closer than you realize.
Instructions
1. Wash your hair according to your routine. Condition your hair after you rinse the shampoo out. Lack of moisture leads to frizz, so it is imperative you boost your hair's moisture content. Follow the manufacturer's instruction for conditioner application and rinsing.
2. Towel dry your hair thoroughly. Squeeze as much moisture out of your hair as possible.
3. Apply a bead of pre-styling hair gel to your palm. Rub your palms together. Run your hands through your hair to apply the gel. Brush your hair to remove tangles. Part your wet hair, if you want the final style to have a part.
4. Separate a 1- to 2-inch section of hair at the front of your hairline in the center. The width of the section affects the fullness of the final curl. Create a large section to make 10 to 12 broad, full curls. Create a small section to make 16 to 24 narrow curls. Comb through the section to smooth the hair. Set the comb aside.
5. Form a loop at the end of the hair. The size of the loop determines how wide the spirals are. Form a penny-sized loop to make a tight spiral; form a quarter-sized loop for a medium spiral; form a golf ball-sized loop to make a broad spiral. Pinch the base of the loop to secure it.
6. Continue to wind the section of hair into the loop. The diameter of the loop should not change, but the thickness of the loop should increase. Coil the hair until you reach the scalp. Press the coil against your scalp so that it is flat. Hold it in place with a finger.
7. Pinch the hinge of a two-pronged alligator clip to open it. Slide the bottom half of the clip across your scalp, under the hair loop. Close the clip to secure the arrangement.
8. Repeat the process to coil and secure all of your hair. Work from your front hairline back to the nape of your neck.
9. Allow your hair to dry fully. Sleep on the arrangement, if possible. Prepare your hair early in the day for an evening event, if you do not want to sleep on the clips.
10. Remove the clips from your hair once it is dry. The coils fall into perfect spirals when you release them from the clips. Apply a bead of hair styling cream or flexible-hold gel to your hand. Rub your palms together. Run your hands through your hair to smooth your curls.
