Formal Hairstyles For A Blonde

Blonde hair comes in several different tones from platinum to strawberry blonde.

Blonde hair is characterized by low levels of dark pigmentation, producing a fair-haired lighter color, typically with an underlying yellow hue. Natural blonde hair tends to darken with age, typically ending up at a light brown color when it is through changing colors. It is not uncommon for natural blondes to lighten their hair to keep its lighter appearance. Blonde is a commonly sought color; many women dye their hair blonde from a darker tone. Blonde hair can be styled in any fashion, but when done up for a formal style, the look is typically slightly wispy to accentuate the lighter tones.

Short Curls

Short curls create a vintage hairstyle reminiscent of those worn by the famous Marilyn Monroe. To achieve this look, trim the hair in a layered short haircut, ending at the nape of the neck. The hair will be put into tight curls using a 1-inch curling iron. To hold the curls in place, spray the hair with a firm-hold hairspray immediately after removing the curling iron. The style can be made slightly less formal by making the curls looser so that the style is more relaxed and wispy.

Loose Curls

Loose, high curls work well for medium-length blonde hair. To create this style, flip your head upside down so that your hair hangs forward. Smooth the hair into a ponytail atop your head and fasten it with a hair clip. When you flip your hair back over, it should be piled on top of your head. Small strands might hang down in the back; simply secure these with blonde-toned bobby pins. Using a 1-inch curling iron, curl the hair that is piled atop your head in small sections until you are left with a loose pile of curled hair. To dress up this look, decorative jeweled hair clips can be attached to curled sections of the hair.

Bun with Bangs

A bun with bangs creates a fun and formal updo for blonde hair; to achieve this look, you need long hair to work with. Trim bangs near the front of the face to frame the facial features; the bangs can be straight cut just above the brow line or longer to hang down to the earline on either side of the face. Pull the body of the hair back--leaving the bangs to frame the face--into a tight ponytail. Twist the length of the ponytail and wrap it around the hair tie, fastening it with a second hair tie. To smooth the hair in the bun, use a small amount of medium-hold mousse and smooth the hair with your fingers.

Pick An Over 50 Hairstyle

Being over 50 means you've probably developed your own style, or at least know what works for you and what doesn't. Choosing a new hairstyle for a new time of life doesn't mean giving in to age, it just means taking a few steps to make sure it works.

Instructions

1. Think about the age issue, and decide how you feel about it. You have your own feelings about being over 50, but style attitudes have changed a great deal. Good over-50 style is not necessarily "anything goes," but a lot more goes than it used to.

2. Examine your lifestyle. Work, social obligations and the time to fuss with hair are important factors. You must get your hair out of the way for recreation such as tennis, golf, skiing and workouts.

3. Look at celebrity hairstyles of those who are over 50. They often have the best professional advice, so look for celebrities with similar facial features to your own whose hairstyles you admire. Some websites let you to upload your own picture and "try on" hairstyles.

4. Check out several different hairstyles, and choose a few you like. Add these to the celebrity choices, and make a gallery of ideas.

5. Ask for professional advice. Tell your stylist to be honest. See if any from your gallery of hairstyle choices works on your face, with your hair type and color. Most stylists try to steer you away from bad decisions.

6. Keep it real. Have confidence in your own style.

Homemade Hair Bow Holders

Keep all your daughter's hair bows in a central location.

Houses with little girls living in them often have hair bows all over the place. Help corral them by making a hair bow holder. There are so many different ways to make them; you may already have the supplies needed at your house. Most use ribbon in different lengths and widths; you can make the hair bow holder match the decor in your home. Not only is it practical, it can be pretty as well.

Chicken Wire Hair Bow Holder

Chicken wire may not sound cute or attractive, but it virtually disappears into a decorative background. Staple a large piece of chicken wire inside a large frame. Cover the frame backing with decorative fabric and pop it into the frame. The chicken wire should be on top. Clip your hair bows onto the different strands and holes in the chicken wire. You won't see the wires once the bows are all in place. This hair bow holder can be put in a bathroom or bedroom.

Picture Frame Hair Bow Holder

This picture frame holder is very similar to the chicken wire hair bow holder, only it uses ribbon instead of chicken wire. If you can't find a large enough picture frame, use a large mirror frame. You can take out the mirror or leave it in place. Staple or hot glue ribbon to the back edge of the frame. Let the ribbon hang down over the opening and glue or staple it on the bottom. Clip the hair bows onto the ribbon. Use different patterns and widths of ribbon to make it bright and colorful.

Ribbon Strip Hair Bow Holder

This is a very simply hair bow holder that holds only a few hair bows. It is a good one to make if you have a very young child with a couple hair bows; you can always make more as her collection of bows grows. Purchase a small wooden shape at the craft store and paint it in colors you like. Cut a 4-inch piece of ribbon and make it into a loop; glue it to the top of the shape in the back. Cut another strip of ribbon; this can be anywhere from 2 to 4 feet. The length really depends on how much room you have in the space you are putting the holder. Glue the strip to the back of the wooden shape, as well. Hang it up and clip your bows onto the long ribbon.

Art Canvas Hair Bow Holder

This hair bow holder uses ribbons of different colors and widths, as well. Instead of a frame, it uses a piece of art canvas. You can purchase the canvas at art supply stores or craft stores. Glue the ribbon on the back at the top of the canvas; let the ribbon fall down the front of the canvas and glue it on the bottom in the back.

Magnetic Hair Bow Holder

Purchase a large sheet of metal at the hardware store. You can often have it cut to the size you want. Put strong magnets all over the metal board. The metal hair bow clips will stick to the magnets, holding them up. This hair bow holder will not work if you have plastic clips on the bows. Dress up the metal sheet with stickers or paint.

Covered Cork Board Hair Bow Holder

Purchase a piece of cork board from the craft store. You can also use a piece of wood, but it will be much heavier. Cover the board with a decorative piece of fabric; staple it tight against the board. Attach a few ribbons to the board in a decorative manner; they do not all have to go up and down as in the other holders. The ribbons can go horizontally, vertically or even diagonally.

Haircuts For Kinky Hair

Kinky hair needs a good cut whether the hair is being worn naturally kinky or is straightened with relaxing chemicals. A cut for kinky hair should be sheared in such a way that it looks good when you wash it and go, or when you wash, set, blow dry and then hot curl it into a finished style. Ideally, hair should be more than just cut. It should be sheared into a particular hairstyle. There are a number of hairstyles that look fabulous on kinky hair, with a minimum of care.

Bob Cut

A good cut for kinky hair--either short or shoulder length--is a bob cut. A bob, with its squared-off ends, offers a lot of versatility for styling, making the wearer ready for a closeup with a tousled, natural look or a sculpted hairdo courtesy of a blow dryer and hot curlers. Cut with a closely cropped, tapered nape, a kinky hair bob's natural look makes it even more easy to wash and go.

When worn longer, at shoulder length, the kinky cut bob is truly versatile. Hair can be worn natural or braided. When straightened, the kinky bob cut can be styled in so many styles, including up-swept hairdos like a French roll and combed down and under styles in a page boy or a modern flip.

Buzz Cut

The buzz cut is a hair cut that works for kinky hair. A buzz cut is a simple sheared hairdo with hair tapered super-close at the nape of the neck with no more than 4 inches in length at the crown. The longer the crown hair, the more versatility there is when styling. Buzz cuts can be worn natural in a small Afro look or straightened and spiked using mousse and gels in a post-modern grunge look. Pop singer Rihanna's buzz cut is a thing of beauty and her many straight hairstyles demonstrate the versatility of a buzz cut when worn straight.

Getting a good cut is key for women desiring a buzz cut. Refrain from sitting in a barber's chair to get one. A hairstylist rather than a barber will bring more skill and attention to ensuring that the finished buzz cut is a feminine one that flatters a female wearer's face.

Health Cut

Every head with kinky hair needs a good maintenance cut to keep the hair healthy. Kinky hair is prone to dry ends that can split and become damaged. Ideally, this cut or deep trim should be done at the time of the full moon, usually the beginning of the month, to help with re-growth.

Save Damaged Hair

Save Damaged Hair

Many of today's modern hair-care techniques such as curling, straightening, dyeing or relaxing hair can cause damage to a previously healthy head of hair. Knowing recognize when hair is damaged, prevent damage and help repair damaged hair will keep your hair healthy-looking. Damaged hair can leave your hair looking dull and unkempt. Taking care of your hair to keep it from getting damaged lets your hair stay shiny and healthy.

Instructions

1. Examine your hair for signs that it may appear damaged. If you have split ends or if your hair feels brittle or harsh, it is most likely damaged. Healthy hair has no split ends and is shiny and manageable. A trim will help remove all split and damaged ends and then you can work on getting your hair to look healthy again.

2. Stop using hair dryers, curling irons or hair straighteners on your hair. These items can damage your hair by burning your hair or drying out the moisture from your hair. Let your hair air dry naturally in order to stay healthy. Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb to prevent any damage.

3. Use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners to help repair your hair. Use hot oil treatments to bring some natural oils to your hair. Vitamin supplements can help to assist you in strengthening your hair.

4. Consult with a hair professional to see if there are any professional treatments that you can apply to your damaged hair to make it feel healthy again. Do not perm or color your hair if it is already damaged. Follow the hair professional's advice on keeping your hair healthy-looking.

Relaxer & Wrap Hairstyles

Getting a hair wrap or relaxer are two common ways to straighten your hair.

If you have a hair type that you do not like, or that you want to tame, there are a few options available. You can wrap your hair, which helps to straighten the hair only using setting lotion. You can also use a relaxer, which uses a chemical such as lye or sodium hydroxide to change the hair texture.

Wet Wrap

Hair wraps use a setting lotion as the only substance that is put on to the hair. Hair is brushed with a wide tooth comb in one direction and laid smooth onto the head with the setting lotion. If there is an especially stubborn piece of hair, a clip may be used to hold that part down. A scarf is then placed over the hair and either left overnight to dry, or put under a dryer.

Dry Wrap

For a dry wrap, the hair is brushed and laid down in one direction on the head. A scarf is wrapped around the head and slept in. Once awake, the scarf is removed and the hair is brushed out. A dry wrap will last until the hair is washed.

Relaxers

Relaxers will smooth down the curls and straighten the hair for far longer than a wrap. In many cases, the hair is permanently straightened and will not need any additional treatments until new hair begins to grow in. Relaxers require a conditioning pretreatment followed by an application of chemicals that may include lye, and then completed with another conditioning treatment.

Holiday Party Hairstyles

Festive holiday parties beckon when the temperatures drop and the days get shorter. These parties are the perfect time to wear gorgeous party dresses, metallic accessories and stunning shoes. This also is the time to create a glamorous hairstyle that will enhance the beauty of an elegant outfit. The key to a dazzling holiday look is to choose a hairstyle that works with your hair type.

Asian Inspired Twist

An Asian-inspired twist is an easy way to draw focus to your neck area and can work with any hair texture. This hairstyle works best on medium length hair. Place a dollop of texturizing lotion on the palms of your hands, and rub together. Run your hands through your hair, and distribute the hairstyling aid evenly. Use a brush to gather all of your hair into a low ponytail. Use one hand to twist your hair into a tight roll. With your opposite hand, wrap the roll around itself in a clockwise direction until you form a tight coil. Secure your new twist with jewel-studded hair pins, but leave the ends loose. Drop a bit of pomade on your fingers, and use it to define and fan out the ends of your hair.

Sophisticated Holiday Updo

A sophisticated holiday updo looks gorgeous on girls with straight or slightly wavy hair that is medium to long in length. Wash hair, and apply a hair styling lotion to your damp tresses. Blow dry your hair until it's dry. Mist sections of hair with a flexible spritz holding spray before you curl it, so that your curls will last longer. Set your hair in large hot curlers, and allow enough time for curls to form. Allow the curls to cool and tease them slightly at the root. Avoid teasing too much because it can frizz your new curls. Gather hair in a loose ponytail at the top of your head. Take each curl, and pin it in place with hair pins alternating the directions as you work. Bangs look best when they are swept off to the side. Finish this hairstyle with a glittery barrette on the side of your hair for a fabulous party look.

Make a Statement with Straight Hair

Straight-haired girls look stunning with shiny and sleek hair. Enhance your lovely tresses with a vintage-looking hair comb that has rhinestone details. A hair band that has small pearls, metallic beads or crystal accents also will draw attention to your hair's silky texture. Create a unique part in your hair by tracing a zigzag from your forehead to the back of your head. Style your hair as you normally do, but avoid touching the zigzag. Add glitz to this sleek hairstyle with an elegant hair clip.

Lovely Chignon

Any hair texture looks amazing when pulled into a chignon. Create a chignon by brushing your hair into a low ponytail. Secure short layers of hair with hair pins that have jewel or pearly accents. Use one hand to twist your ponytail into a tight coil. Place your hand at the base of the ponytail, and hold it while your other hand lifts the coil straight up against your head. Wrap the coil in a clockwise direction until you have created a half circle. Let go of the base, and hold the bun tightly with your hand as you form the chignon. Finish the rotation, and tuck your hands underneath the chignon. Secure your new chignon with tiny bobby pins. Stick beaded chignon sticks into your cute bun to enhance this lovely hairstyle.

5 Minute Updo

This glamorous hairstyle is a glamorous updo that is easy, and best of all it takes just 5 minutes. Apply mousse to your clean hair, and scrunch with your fingers. Skipping a shampoo or two will add amazing texture to your hair. If your hair is squeaky clean, create texture and volume by tousling your hair with your fingers as you blast it with your blow-dryer. Tease your front layers with your fingers to create height at the crown. Pull back sections of your hair into several uneven sections. Twist these pieces of hair together, and secure with decorative bobby pins. Place a rhinestone, pearl or jeweled hair clip on the sides of your messy, but sexy, updo. Or wear two black satin headbands to add an elegant touch to this hairstyle.
